Reviews for One Good Turn Deserves Another
ForgeDConvictioN chapter 37 . 2/26/2023
For those deciding to read this or not: Do it. The first of many works but impactful and beautiful all the same. The romance is perfect and believable. It’s not all drama but action, growth, and hope packed into one!

This story was a fantastic read, felt like the writing was on point throughout honestly, overlooking spelling mistakes here and there, but you can’t win ‘em all. As someone who has only really read Whiterose and Bumblebee fics it’s nice to see one like this, I kinda want to see a sequel all about the kids of the guys we know but that’s a pipe dream more than anything perhaps XD. Regardless it was an amazing read!

Damn I really was leaning into that Sith Lord joke when reading too XD

Prodigious size has no intrinsic merit, unless inordinate exsanguination be considered a virute.

Well now I know what the Nevermore fight scene in Arcanum was inspired by.

I think that this may just beat out the others in being my favourite of your stories, and I can say without shame that this was the only one for which I actually cried while reading. I didn’t bawl my eyes out, but there were a few tears, and I think that you probably know when they were. Yes, it was chapter 30. I think that this is one of the more important indicators of whether you are invested in a character, you know they are convincing when you care enough to shed some tears. So well done. Nicholas definitely did not lack conviction at his end, an important something that Jaune is starting to gain, and even though it may not have been a reason for why he chose what he chose, he did ironically fulfil his own father’s goals and became a true hero. It’s poetic in a way, I like it.

I think the perfect song for this is the acoustic rendition of ‘I may fall’ from the volume 7 soundtrack. It perfectly encompasses how I see Jaune in this story and has a more subdued and somber tune than the original, before becoming a bit more rousing towards the end. He may not be the bravest or the strongest of people, but when it matters, he can be counted on to try his damn hardest no matter the cost.

The romance between Jaune and Blake felt realistic and it was well built up to. The idea that it started from nothing and a debt, and then slowly progressed and progressed was well done, especially considering that for a big part of the story they probably thought they would die which would, understandably, shift priorities slightly. It’s hard not to feel bad for Pyrrha, but to be fair she did have a long time to tell him even if, I’ll admit, it’s not always the easiest thing to do. Ruby too, supportive to the end even when she’s been so brutally crushed. :(

I loved the last chapter though. I think that the best stories are those that stand on their own as a finished product, like this definitely does, while also leaving it open for the reader to imagine what could come next. For this the ending is on point, it ties up everything you needed it to, namely their recovery and the next stage of their relationship, while allowing you to picture for yourself the extended dynamics of the family, and how the expedition and the future will unfold.

I know it’s been a while, but I would read a sequel no question. Or if you run out of ideas maybe something based on the next generation with a totally new plot. They’d be OCs granted, but I think the dynamic between the children and then the parents could be very interesting. Hint hint wink wink. Seriously though I really enjoyed it, and while it may not be as polished as some of the newer stories, I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. This was the story which got you into all of this and that passion, for me at least, really comes across in how well reasoned it is, and most importantly, how well it reads.

DO NOT HAVE "I'M PROUD OF YOU" FROM ME3 PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND, it just make this whole chapter that much sadder

Hi, I know this story was written years ago but I just started reading it. Is the story Blake gives Juane based on David Gemmell’s stormrider? The summaries don’t exactly match up but they are pretty close.

Thank you very much, Coeur, for the effort put into this work, no, the effort put into All your works, because I honestly didn't know that I could come to like a Fanfiction as much as to come to like it.

A very good story, a quality that I would have expected to pay for. Thank you for the hard work!
