Reviews for Red Cobra
Guest chapter 4 . 1/31/2015
That was really good the entire way through, the only problem was that the change in scenes was a bit vague at times. Could you add something to help separate them in the future?
Unreas0n chapter 4 . 1/29/2015
The tatic of jumping around like hell is a viable option, given that the Turians used frequent tactical ftl jumps at Palaven against the Reapers, and that the Covenant (to which UNSC Slipspace is now equal or superiour to) often used their drives to teleport around in the space of battle to take on even LARGER UNSC forces than they could without doing it.
That point is legit.
Bringing broad-side guns to bear is still more difficult than getting a missile spam or torpedo lock on a ship, though.
That might be partially stopped by the GARDIAN and made obsolete by the CIWS, though it would still hurt,
or force them to jump once more before even firing.
All in all, both sides would shoot and jump a lot without really doing anything to each other,
unless they have the time to bring their spinal cannons to bear, which is extremely unlikely,
unless the UNSC ship uses its 2000g maneuvering thruster plot device hax to do it regardless.
Both sides will be very frustrated.
J.E.P 1996 chapter 4 . 1/29/2015
So will the UNSC have better weapon emplacements? Because I can't even think of one time during Halo canon where any UNSC had an effective broadside weapons emplacement except for AAA guns.
By all rights it seems that the UNSC naval doctrine is based on sniper ships and thus long range combat.

So how are you going to fix that?
Alpha Draconis69 chapter 4 . 1/29/2015
I really hope you continue this great story, I like it very much.
Chris Redfield-General Chaos chapter 4 . 1/28/2015
When you mentioned the ships' name: Angel Of Fire, did you mean Spirit Of Fire? Also you might want to look into ways to break up scenes better, during the first half of the conversation between the admiral and Bronco, I had the two identities reversed. Also your FTL tactics of constantly moving around are not feasible, if they were the UNSC would have been using them in their fight with the covenant, and the citadel joint fleet would have used them against the reapers in the battle over earth. The reason they don't is the same, power generation buildup, it takes time for the FTL engine to cool down and the capacitors to charge up before the ship can jump again the engine would burn out damn quick otherwise. Look up Battlestar Galactica and their own version of FTL, it's different yes, but the lore actually explains why they can't jump instantly (aside from needing the calculations). I personally see this as plausible for any type of extreme engine, even Star Trek ships can't do rapid fire FTL transitions.

You're wrong about the manoeuvring. Both Mass Effect ships and Halo ships have a bigass, nose-mounted fixed gun. That means they don't want to be close to the enemy as they would have to turn their whole ships to move the gun on their target and it would be extremely difficult at close range.

BUT, and this is a bit but, Halo ships have other viable weapons unlike the ME ones. Halo ships have literally thousands of missiles that would completely overwhelm Gardian Lasers due to their numbers. They might also have Onager or Mini-Macs on their broadsides. The disruptor torpedoes for ME ships will be easy to shoot down by the Halo point-defense grid as they're made with hundreds of missiles in mind.
TheEliteDucky chapter 4 . 1/28/2015
Glad to see this story is back online, I'm surprised I didn't feel any hate for this iteration of Del Rio. Kind of sad to see the Chief trying to bring back Cortana. Random question, what do you think humanity's average life span is here? A lot of people stick with the 100 limit, but for me I feel like it'd be at least 180.
Mr. Aanonymous chapter 4 . 1/28/2015
why did you bring in fighting now?! you could have gone a good 10 chapters of the UNSC/ ONI going ghost recon on the citidel races. Gathering intel, scoping out potential military targets, collecting technology samples, all that. but no! you just had to make numbah four the chapter where they groups 'finally' meet and do battle. Revealing the UNSC and humanity to the greater galaxy.

thanks for ruining a perfectly good plot and fallowing the rut that has turned into a metaphorical grand canyon like you said you wouldn't do.

oh and FYI its been stated and proven by math that while the ME universe uses mass accelerators for their main weapons the kinetic energy for a regular ezzoo pistol is equivalent to a regular conventional ammunition pistol. the only real reason why the use the damn things is because it virtually never runs out of ammo. so yeah, while small arms are concerned the Halo and ME are pretty much tied but for heavy weapons like say the gauss cannon halo got ME's number.

now as for ships... yeah Halo's got ME beat to a bloody space pulp. As i'm sure you've probably read before, because of how the primary energy source that is the driving point of the game: element zero, works the ME side can only build up to about 1000 meters or 1 km because of power/ gravity field generation. anything more than that and the Ezzoo/ mass ratio becomes incredibly bias and is just playing not economical or practical.

But Halo side doesn't have that problem, they can build how ever big they want. UNSC biggest size is about 5km while the covenant side is about 28 km, which by the way we've seen have the power to glass an ENTIRE PLANET. granted it would and did take years to completely do but still. not to mention both ships can carry entire fleets inside of them. yes they are the extrems of the too factions but according to ME the 'destiny accession' is only about 1200 meters which would get annihilated almost instantly. As for the rest of the ships. for the UNSC 'Frigate' class ships are about cruiser class for the turian military. Halo Scout and surprise attack class ships are considered 'escort' class for the most powerful military in Council space. think about that for a second.

Now about the speed at which the ships are capable. Yes the ME ships are smaller which make it less of a target and are more maneuverable, but when it comes to FTL halo's got ME beat hands down yet again. What it would take the NORMANDY, the ME universes fastest ship 15 days to journey, it can take the UNSC INFINITY, the UNSC's largest ship, only about 10 hours. thats Mass relay's included.

Oh and as for the ships weapons and defensive technology. Yeah, remember that thing i said about power generation? Same thing applies to weapons and kinetic barriers. they are extremely limited to how much ezzoo can be pumped into the ship and size is an important piece of the equations. And again halo doesn't have that problem. they can shoot how ever big a piece of, say depleted uranium they want. Granted they need the storage capacity and the generators to store and fire said ammunition but still. Similar thing to shields.

The only real advantage i can think of when it comes to weapons for ME i can think of is that thanks to the principles of Ezzoo the mass effect rounds fired from ships travel faster, pack a bigger punch for their Emc squared ratio, and can be reloaded faster than MAC rounds.

so when it comes down to it the only thin ME has going for it are ammo supply and rate of fire. that is it! i'm sorry i know you wanted it to be even, but that is it as far as technology goes. i'm not even mentioning the whole experience/ training/ societal mindset aspect. because believe me, that is not the fight you want me to get into right now.

You have my attention.
Lord-Marauder-2013 chapter 3 . 1/24/2015
This fic, defiantly has potential, interested in where your going to take this, hope you update soon.
TrueMetis chapter 3 . 1/18/2015
Awesome, a new setup. Should be fun.
GodzillaMaster chapter 3 . 1/15/2015
I like it so far, it portrays the UNSC as being extremely cautious around unknown alien technology during the post-war segment (something that hasn't exactly been done before in shared universe HaloxME stories), as well as pointing out the massive flaws in the K-5 turds of destroying the only thing that's capable of ensuring their survival, the "we are the giants now" logic of Halo 4, and both's humanity getting right back on their feet as if nothing happened despite being forced to the brink of extinction with an effectively destroyed agriculture and industrial infrastructure.

So keep going, you have me interested in this story so far.
xThomas2 chapter 3 . 1/14/2015
I think the Fic is ok. I mean, at least it doesn't open up with everyone blowing each other up in space, but space fights are no fun to read anyway. If it was to come to a space fight, I think maneuverability is more important than size. Halo big ass jets/bombers, mass effect is more like fighter planes
LuBu081 chapter 2 . 1/14/2015
So much for Hood talking about the changing of the Crimson Ostrich name.
