I think I see what's going on here. They're being forced to choose the opposite dialog options to show why he didn't pick them in reality. He agreed to join S.E.E.S. immediately because they weren't really giving him a choice, and he didn't tell them about the Velvet Room because they would've just called him crazy if he did.
