This was a really nice story...a real page turner. I do hope you will write more stories about Mary and Matthew. If you do, please make it less sad.

Rachel Smith Cobleigh chapter 19 . 6/2/2016
Nice quick introduction to the new world: so much compelling story and character implied by just a few lines! I love how Violet wants to be a lawyer, and kudos on some great character touches, particularly with Barrow.

I love the gentle Mary/Matthew scene.

Haha on Matty wishing Mary had gotten both sides of Philip's face with the bottle.

A great epilogue and a strong ending to an unusual, and very well written, pair of stories!

Omg 3 kids dead out of 6, that is cruel :'(( I don't know how you can survive the death of 3 of your children really. Quite horrible even if accurate. A sad but a great ending ! :)

So sad...
Stephanie chapter 19 . 5/28/2016
I think the epilogue of this story is quite different. I see it this way: Downton is preparing to celebrate the return of George Crawley. He is the captain and he has just been decorated for bravery. Matthew is proud of his eldest son, and Mary is happy that George comes home. Maybe he will bring with him some nice girl. Reggie still has two years of study medicine. He will be a doctor like his paternal grandfather. He interrupted his studies because he served as a medic in the army. His twin brother William is treated from the injury. He is annoyed because while he could not ride a horse yet. But it is not forever. He is constantly squabbling with his nurse Maggie, in which he is in love (Neither of them wants to admit it yet.) Twenty-year old Lady Charlotte writes secret letters to a young American lieutenant, who was being treated in a sanatorium Downton during the war. Mary knows about it, course. Seventeen-year-old lady Violet has great music talent and she is every day more and more like her mother. Well, and a little Matthew junior? This unexpected last child of Mary and Matthew is the darling of the whole family. He is loved by his siblings and parents. He admires his brothers a he wants to be a lawyer like his papa.

-Screaming- AN UPDATE! oh I am so glad to be back in this universe again! It probably is a realistic portrayal of how WWII affected the great families. so happy to see Mary and Matthew supporting each other :)

This story is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I think though that the loss of three sons was more likely in the First World War. There wasn't quite the same degree of military carnage in Britain in the second war.
ameliapemerson chapter 19 . 5/26/2016
A special story. A truthful ending. It's sad for sure. Great job!

Oh no. I cannot agree with the end of your story. So sad. Sorry, it was bad, Yes, I know that many families lost their sons in second world war, but 3 sons..?! iT is CRUEL from you. So I must forget this chapter. Sometimes I read some Mary Matthews fanfictions again and again, but I do not want read this story again. Never.
