![]() ![]() ![]() Congrats on finishing this and, more importantly, for such an entertaining and imaginative tale. Thanks also, for all of the above :) Onward to 'Appearances'! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hah! Well, that was quite neat and sweetly tied up with a little bow, but I do understand your interest in moving forward with your own plot. Besides, while they know where the Horcruxes are, that doesn't hand them all over on a silver platter... even though Nagini is the only one truly beyond their reach. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent job wrapping things up with the PoA arc (or near-enough so). Poirot on the Horcrux Hunt is quite an entertaining thought :) |
![]() ![]() ![]() " if he could afford to fly Business or First Class, he would. It was generally better. " Intriguing! I've never read a fic where the Delacour's weren't stinking rich! I have to say that you put a lot of thought into explaining some of Dumbledore's failings - both in regards to Black and why he did not look in on Harry due to a lack of reliable allies. That said, he was perfectly capable of silencing and obscuring his presence (notice-me-not combined with disillusioning) and going to look himself. Albus Dumbledore is hardly the kind of man who would balk at lying to Petunia's face about not intruding on her home, of that there can be no doubt. In the end, the fact that he acknowledges his flaws at all is a huge step forward for the character and one I wanted to give kudos where they are due. Speaking of his character, I generally look at canon Dumbledore as just a few short steps away from dark lord status. His casual and intentional disregard for the well being of Harry is the easiest of examples but many a list has been compiled of his borderline dark if not outright evil actions or the withholding of action when he had the power to do so. That said, he doesn't actually take those steps, he isn't truly dark and, although fics can twist his character quite easily because he's so close to the line, canon Dumbledore doesn't cross it exclusively in the sense that a true Machavelian antagonist does. I agree wholeheartedly with you about bashing. Explore the character, develop the 'dark' side, if that's the direction of the fic, but to make them one-dimensionally evil is both a disservice to JKR's creation and, more importantly, just plain lazy writing. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Another solid chapter with a fun beginning to the main relationship. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Mrs Bennett... Molly Weasley? " Phrenology is the discredited so-called 'science' of determining personality traits from the shape of the skull. It's BS, and thus, would probably still be popular in the Wizarding World. " I'm pretty sure it's in Trelwany's syllabus :D Quartermass' history is a trip, that was a fun bounce around Wikipedia to learn... and explore... and learn... and bounce... for half an hour! Thanks for the pop-culture lesson! I'm really enjoying this concept, there's a lot to look forward to and that's one of the things I admire: You haven't dropped them into a soul-bond/love-at-first-sight/Harry's so OC that his barely 13 yr old awkwardness charms the pants off of Fleur, etc... The Poirot references are just ice cream with the pie. |
![]() ![]() ![]() How do pure veela even exist if veela are all female? |
![]() ![]() ![]() I have tried to read this probably 4 times sorry to say chapter 6 is as far as ive made it and i have finally understood why. Your writing is absolutely awesome so that wasn't the problem. The fanfic synopsis is very cool and i love HP fanfic so that was not the problem. The story was intriguing so that wasn't it. But i have found it. Its the pacing of the story. Detective stories by their very nature are slow and methodical. Like procedural shows on tv. But I know whats going to happen in this story. I know for a fact harry has been abused i know for a fact that Sirius is innocent and everything else. So for about the first 4 or 3 chapters the main points of a detective slowly figuring out something I already know in a slow and methodical why while speculating on things i know to be true make me feel like im wadding through malaises. Because of that it makes it feel as if nothing is happening even though alot of stuff is happening in your story as all the action is sandwiched in between alot of detective work im trying to wade through so i can get to the end where he actually finds out the truth i already know. But I'm gonna say event though I don't know if ill get through this fanfic but its still a fantastic take on the story and truly inspired twist. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm disappointed in the annotations. Too much, and nobody wants to read replies to individual reviewers, especially several years afterwards. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for a great read! Very nicely done. Looking forward to the sequel. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was quite enjoyable and well done. A quick piece of feedback is that there's a noticeable tendency in the writing (at this juncture of your writing, at least) to use words which are fairly obscure. They range from milder examples such as 'facetious', to 'laconic', and more jarring examples like 'lugubrious' / 'inveigle'. Whilst educational (thanks google!) and likely a by-product of the search for an apt word which concisely flavours the text, it might assist the reader if you pepper further contextual clues in their immediate vicinity to make it easier to get a sense of what those words mean. Otherwise, in their inscrutable forms, they remain merely an uncomfortable lump in one's mouth to be gently set aside whilst digesting the rest of the story. Thanks for the read, and looking forward to devour (hur hur extended culinary wordplay) what's available of the sequel. Cheers! |
![]() ![]() good sor |
![]() ![]() Damn I finished it :/ |
![]() ![]() Damnit I was hoping this story was a completed 20 chapters :/ really hope you continue and complete this because it was really good |
![]() ![]() Love that snape part... too many people bash him hardcore and yes he does deserve it but when it comes to Harry he was his secret guardian that cared more for his well being than dumbledore |
