Lots of names can be shortened to harry doesn't even have to start with an h can just have Hari some where in the name. Like how William is turned to bill or Richard to dick or even Robert to bob.

In some more Norse versions, usually involving an asgardian in a crossover, Harry is sometimes short for Haldar.
There is also Hadrian, Hades, Haidyr, Halberd, Haldas, Hallberg, Harence, Harrington, Harper, Heinz, Henderson, Hendrick, aka anything that starts with 'har' or related to Henry (plus all alternative spellings/ other languages).

Names that use "Harry" as a nickname? Harold, Henry, Harris, and Harrison are the most obvious ones, although Hadrian seems to be a recent addition to the list. Any of the names that can be found starting with "Har" (there's at least 20 in the name book) & the one that everyone ignores: Harry.

Those 20 something (skipping the non-Harry Hars): Harailt, Harbin, Harcourt, Hare, Harford, Hargrove, Harean, Harel(ache), Harence, Hari, Harim(an), Harith, Harod, Harrington, Haru(ko- should probably ignore: Japanese), Harun, along with several Harps, Harts, Hards & Harvs.

I have sometimes seen people use Hadrian for Harry's full name. It may not be original but it is nice.

Heh! I can't wait to see how Marvolo convinces Harry that being adopted by a newly resurrected and startlingly *sane* Dark Lord is actually a Good Idea! Not to mention poor Severus' impending mental breakdown... Heh! I do hope Marvolo can win back Severus' loyalty, through more sane goals. He's showing promise of going that way, at least.
I like how this story's going. I do enjoy fics where Riddle gets his brain straight and acts sanely *Slytherin,* instead of like a bloodthirsty Elmer Fudd (a la Bugs Bunny cartoons). I could always see what his original objectives could have been in canon, and how there could be one heckuva complicated mind-twister-interesting long story in that, with no real true evil leaders-only the occasional psychopathic follower or loner. Which would have to include Sirius and Mad-Eye on that list, as well as Bellatrix; as they *really* aren't exactly the most stable examples of wizard-kind-they just happen to follow Dumbledore instead of Riddle.

Hadrian has been used. Other names I found include Henry, Emeric (French), Harris, Amery, Emerson, Emery, Emmerson, Emory, Henderson, Kendrick, Kenrick, Perry, Parry (Welsh), Enzo (French & Italian), Rico (Italian), Hereweald (Anglo-Saxon), Henrik (Armenian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German, Hungarian, Slovene & Croatian), Enrique (Spanish) and Haroldo (Spanish & Portuguese). That's the only decent ones anyway.
So... I love it and can't wait for more, especially since I am now wondering if Harry is Marvolo's son (biologically or through the horocrux)?!

How come nobody ever uses HENRY since Harry is the usual nickname for Henry?

I have enjoyed the start of this story so far. I can see some different potential directions this could go so I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it. I'm anticipating Voldemort (perhaps Marvolo would be more appropriate?) finding out that Harry is a parselmouth.
As for names that could have Harry for short, I have seen people use Hadrian quite bit which I like a lot. It seems a bit more wizardly than other choices. I have also seen Harridan used every so often. I am not a huge fan of Harold myself, though Harrison is fine to me.
Anyway, thanks for posting this! I will eagerly wait for the next chapter!

Fanfiction has Hadrian as often as Harold and Harrison. There is also the occasional Harcourt. Harry is also a nickname for Henry. There are probably others (you could perhaps check a baby name website since you might find names and also get the meanings of them if you want something with significance as well). :)

Really liking this fic. The political route of digging up old laws is definitely more Slytherin than a bloody coup. And I'm finding the confused and creeped-out Death Eaters amusing.

As for the name Harry it is also 'short' for Henry (it's the actual name of the current Prince Harry). I never got how it could be 'short' seeing as there are the same number of letters but it's due to it being the Old English version of Henry.
