Reviews for A New Kind of Normal |

![]() ![]() Great fanfic, what an amazing way to explore 'butterfly effect' where the smallest changes at the beginning lead to such a different outcome. All the scenes with Quirell were so tense. I loved how you played with a reader who obviously knows who is the real bad guy here. I also really appreciate adding dimensions to Slytherins, so poorly treated in canon. Still, Neville remains my very favourite character. You really gave him justice. Can't wait to read more. |
![]() ![]() Uh oh. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for a great another reread! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I expected him to go into Slytherin, honestly |
![]() ![]() I enjoyed this story quite a bit. Thank you. |
![]() ![]() I don’t think I’ve read a story where Quirrel has Harry helping him. I like the originality. |
![]() ![]() This and the first story were slow in developing, but the payoff of a differentiated story is emerging. Good momentum with these last two chapters. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Fun Facts about Muggleborns from Potterwiki: "Muggle-borns inherited magic from a distant ancestor; they were descended from Squibs who had married Muggles and whose families had lost the knowledge of their wizarding legacy. The magic resurfaced unexpectedly many generations later.[4] According to J. K. Rowling, a Muggle-born can become a Death Eater in rare circumstances.[23]" I also seem to remember there was a note somewhere on Muggles marrying a witch or wizard was the cause of squibs to begin with (said in a fictional book written by a fictional american author, possibly in the movies) -but it doesn't appear to be on the main page on muggleborns (or I'm blind), so I may have read it in an interview or in the footnotes of another page. Lol Potterwiki is dead useful when you write HP fics. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Strickly speaking, Hogwarts DO have Music and Arts. (Or had, at least.) There is Music and Art as a part of Mughle Studies, but at the time when Dippet was headmaster there was also a magical art class and something called the Frog Choir. (Unless I remember the name wrong. Check Potterwiki for details. Hogwarts have (had) MANY more subjects than we read about in the books -JK Rowling has not used even half the notes she has on the HP world, but she often let slip info in interviews or on twitter. Also... Durmstrang is only known for Dark Arts because they focus on DUELLING -which requires harmful spells. And JK Rowling defines the Dark Arts as "Spell that causes Harm". Which means even Hogwarts teaches Dark Arts, as both the Cutting Curse AND Bombarda IS Harmful Spells, and therefore Dark Arts. For all that I suspect she chose her words poorly and meant "Spells who's primary objective is to cause Harm" or "Spells that has no other use than to cause harm." Either way, the abovementioned spells is Darks Arts by ALL of them.) Anyway... I love this story! Keep writing! _ |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm happy to see I'm not alone in thinking light wizards are just as racist against muggles as dark wizards. Both the Weasley's and dumbledore has this "Animal Activist" view on muggles. They find them cute and facinating, and those poor little things MUST be protected, because -as the superior species that wizards are- they have a responsibility to take care of the sub-human creatures in the world! (dumbledore has the EXACT same attitude as Grindewald. Back when he frolicked with him and made plans for world domination, they seeked to become benevilent overlords -for the muggles CLEARLY couldn't take care of themselves, being the lesser animals that they are. But then he got his sister killed, blamed the whole thing on his bff to lessen his unberable feeling of guilt, and decided to dedicate his life to do whatever it took to run from, and get rid of, that unending guilt -a lot like when the Mafia goes to church, or people give to charity then pat themselves on the back for beeing such GOOD PEOPLE. _ He also changed his approach to muggles, by deciding it would be animal abuse to Force them. They needed to be gently guided and manipulated into thinking they had freedom instead! Because animal activists are SUCH nice people! :D I mean... it'd be like someone finding the black slaves FACINATING, and think they should be set free and made to work the same shitjobs in exchange for money instead... but they'd never MARRY an animal like them! *Gasp* The horror!) Anyway... Kudos! |
![]() ![]() Good read thanks |
![]() ![]() ![]() Wow, Quirrelmort really got away. And Hagrid's hut got burnt. Dumbles must have covered up the incident as dragon breeding is supposedly a crime. So many misunderstandings in young Harry's life. Can't wait to see his reactions when he finds out he got fooled into helping his parents murderer. Love that Harry is getting seduced by all the pureblood lore. Him getting involved in it because he's been told "it's the normal thing to do" fits the theme of this story very well. Hope it doesn't destroy his friendship with Hermione though. Hermione Granger, friend of the Goblin Nation. Hilarious. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I enjoyed your sequel. I do hope Harry wises up and is able to get better grades. No reason to get anything lower than an A or E. He would still be ordinary, but not seen as stupid. And, once he starts getting graded in the normal world, he will need exceptional grades to get into medical school. But he is young yet... |
![]() ![]() ![]() I do hope Harry matures a tad sooner than later and realizes that he is only cheating himself out of a good education in magic by deliberately sabotaging himself. I also hope he will realize that he needs to keep up with 'normal' school work. |
![]() ![]() ![]() why do I like this turn of events. I wonder how this changes the rest of the story. |
