Reviews for And so the Soviets Conquered |

![]() ![]() ![]() Awesome chapter. They did do it once with head in box, but was dead terrorist head in bag. I think not 100% sure. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Another awesome chapter. I think it it was Hezbollah but I know it was the middle east. For decades no one took Russian hostages after seeing the way the Soviet union 'negotiated'. Questions about the timeline. If Turkey wasn't a base for US medium range ballistic missiles then did the ussr never station missiles in Cuba? If that is so then is nikita krushev in charge still or is it Brezhnev? Backing down in Cuba helped opposition in the poliburo unseat him, it also cemented Mao splitting with Russia on the question of who would lead the communist block. Fun fact a Soviet General had too much vodka and told his Chinese counterpart to remove Mao just as they had removed krushev. It didn't end well... Really liked your portrayal of opposition to the refugees. It brings up the nkvd katyn massacre of polish officers in 1939, Hungary in 1956 and especially Afghanistan. Which brings up an issue with a Soviet officer purchasing a book or using a computer at SDF compound and knowing the mistakes to come. Even if parallel and not the same, the Soviet leadership is going to shit bricks when the fall of the Berlin wall, Gorbachev reforms and Yeltsin dismantling the union in 1992 come to light. Back on track. Wowed by the size of the Soviet deployment vs the Japanese and hope itami and the main cast get to see it. If nothing else America will be chomping at heels of Japan to send aid...be it F35s that by 2024 shouldn't have performance issues. Some people are going to assume they have to match the Russians. You get this vibe from the anime that some want to use the special region to rebuild Japanese power or at the very least insulate themselves from geopolitical responsibilities. Soviet kit and Russian export kits have always been cheap and easy to use/maintain. Dogmen and warrior bunnies could use some T34s and PpSh submachine guns if not bolt action rifles to wage war against the empire not unlike Vietcong or Warsaw pact forces. If Japan finds out about stealth minerals, it could sell them to the US to pay off debts...or call in favor. The fight scenes were top notch and I'm glad you included little things like a laneths first impression of the village. The empire is hopelessly screwed but how far in the anime are we at this point? Best of luck and sorry to rambling on. Backstory of characters really fleshed out their identities away from two dimensional charictures. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Great chapter, I like how you illustrated the differences in discipline between the two modern groups. I'm curious to see how Japan reacts to meeting the Soviet Union from an alternate time line. Also glad you came up with an explanation of an alternate time line, it makes quite a few of my earlier doubts go away. I also like your character Ianthe, she brings a bit of comedy and I look forward to seeing her fight Rory in the next chapter. Keep up the excellent work! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Interesting, I like that you picked a superpower like the Soviet Union. I have to say tha I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when the Russians meet with the JSDF. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Crossover writer here, I just stumbled upon this fic and I feel that this was well done. I do hope there will be a new chapter in the future. |
![]() ![]() Also is there a chance for the SU - 17 and/or SU-25 to get rushed into service? AFAIK they start production on 1970-78 with roles dedicated on ground attack plus you got the fox bat flyin early. It'll prolly give the Soviets even more of an edge in the GATE world(though prolly be unnecessary since JGSDF there use Cold War weapons of similar timeline with the Soviets) |
![]() ![]() ![]() loving this so far, keep going. |
![]() ![]() Soviet presence would give america a reason to through the gate, japan might be able to withstand the soviets for a while they cant possibly sustain their war effort. On the other hand ianthe is very enjoyable to read. Good luck. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Another awesome chapter. Pino colada is going to pissing herself when she realizes the two sides have very different ideas about collateral damage. Kind of hopefully we see T64's and bm21 grad rockets liberating the poor warrior bunnies. The new season is definitely darker in tone. It irks me that Japan has any defense spending issues after the Ginza attack. America (us) wouldn't be so calm. Keep up the good work. Wonder what itami's Russian federation will think of ussr? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Awesome chapter. |
![]() ![]() Hmm... What general Alexandrov did was expected but looking at it as a member of the Politburo or any other political body I would have disagreed with such acts of kindness. Sure they'll be grateful for us now but that might not be the case in the future after all loyalty to the general is different from loyalty to a nation. dude should've gave them some supplies n medicine and told them to leave, that way ur supplies, tho Initially bad for them they won't need to feed 3k mouths in the coming years, and u get some rep from nomad animal people who'll spread word of positivity. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Awesome chapter Finally the two forces meet. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Uh-oh, looks like someone wants to pick a fight with Rory! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Response to Author's Note at end of Chapter 3: To make a long story short, the author of GATE, the one who wrote the original novel in Japan, is a former-JSDF member, and an UBER right-winger nationalist. The anime obviously cuts stuff out that you can find in the manga or novel versions, but to put it simply, the author makes the other countries look like absolute fools, or evil, conniving bastards with no morals, and basically touts that Japan is the greatest nation on Earth. Case-in-point would be a scene that's in the manga where shortly after they entire the GATE, the higher authorities in the Japanese Government begin to question if they'll end up doing anything immoral on the other side of the GATE like other empires have done before, conveniently leaving out all the atrocities done by the Japanese in WW2. Another one would be the scene in the spa, where Japanese Greenhorns managed to take out CIA Special Ops, Russian Spetsnaz, and Chinese Special Ops all at the same time. Something laughable in real life. Essentially, yes, America would flex its arms and would force Japan to open the GATE up to us to send in 'contractors' that would conveniently target the resources in the new area. Whether we would say it's because we're military allies, or because they're a part of the NATO program as a Global Partner, whatever the case may be. We would totally and utterly force Japan to open up to us. (Note that I am in no way in favor of American Imperialism) |
![]() ![]() ![]() so its 3 world connected through the gate? |
