An amazingly long update! I was so excited to see the notification and you definitely didn't disappoint. I'm going to assume that the futile in the title didn't mean the secret will be revealed this year because it's way too soon! Love the way you're handing Rigel's recovery btw and her friendship with Leo never fails to make me smile. The dominion jewel is aggravating and I feel sorry for rigel to have to feel with it, but it must be a great plot device and I have a feeling you're going to involve it later. The length of your update was great and please keep the chapters coming. This is seriously my favourite fanfiction and I'm something of a veteran so that's saying something. Thank you so much!

Welcome back and thank you soooo much for this amazing first chapter! to be honest, you are one of the few authors I have ever read whose stories are not just fanfictions but books in their own right! It's such a shame that not everyone knows of your beautiful writing.
I'm really enjoying all the subtle machinations going on in the background~ I have a strong belief that Chekhov's Gun is coming into play, especially with Burke's request for those potions and Krait's suddenly loose lips. I wonder who those potions are going to be sold to.
on the other hand, I feel that you did a marvelous job in displaying Harry's trauma. Obviously, it was a horrifying experience; her PTSD is nicely visible but, as she seems to be wont to do, Harry is also trying to hide that.
I also enjoy how you managed to work the Jewel back into the story; I wonder what's going to continue happening. Stupid Jewel. Is Harry not able to restrict its power by adding more commands to the construct? What about flooding it with her /will/ rather than giving it magic and compelling it to use the magic only by the will infused within it?
anyways, looking forward to your next chapter. Thank you so much for your inspirational writing!
