![]() ![]() ![]() I never cared much for Sub-Zero, but this was a nice take on Kuai Liang honoring his brother's name and legacy. I like this setup since in the series we never got to see why it made sense for Kuai to care for Bi-Han when Bi-Han's usually so cold towards him. This was a great chapter to pick up where the first chapter left off. Here it just feels natural for Kuai to want to honor his brother because his last memories of Bi-Han were of him promising Kuai they'll go on a mission together and the two of them sharing a mutual respect for one another. Maybe NRS will explore the cryomancers backstory, but I doubt it. If not, then give Bi-Han a reason for his disdain towards Kuai so it'll make sense why Bi-Han disregards his only living relative. |
![]() ![]() ![]() A much better take on Kitana's origins and her relationship with her step-father than what NRS did in MK 9. You kept it true to the original timeline (while still adding your own twist) by showing Shao Kahn as a somewhat loving and caring father. Since in the original timeline Shao Kahn did have fatherly feelings for Kitana and did everything he could to keep her from discovering the truth of her origins and only saw her as a threat after she defected from Outworld and killed Mileena. And yet, when the spell wears off we get to see Shao Kahn's true nature as the cold-hearted brute we all know him to be. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I can't say I didn't become intrigued with Kung Lao's character until Mortal Kombat 9. I enjoyed his snarky, sharp-tongued personality. And while he was clearly jealous of Liu Kang, Kung Lao was also very supportive of his best friend and put all of his faith in Liu Kang to win Mortal Kombat. It's understandable why Kung Lao desires to be the MK champion because he has a high bar to reach that was set by the Great Kung Lao. Kung Lao can't seem to escape his elder's shadow, so he's seemingly pressured to reach said bar. You've managed to highlight Liu Kang and Kung Lao's friendship and rivalry better than Midway/NRS ever did. Liu Kang understand's where his best friend's vexation comes from, but he doesn't hold it against him. Liu Kang also takes his role as the chosen warrior of the White Lotus seriously, but he's confident enough in Kung Lao's abilities that he believes Kung Lao is strong enough to defeat the fighters of Outworld. And the way you closed this chapter was touching. Kung Lao gifting Liu Kang the Great Kung Lao's gauntlets and headband he wore during his time competing in Mortal Kombat just shows how much Kung Lao believes in Liu Kang's victory, but it also shows that Kung Lao feels Liu Kang is the right man to honor their ancestors and the Wu Shi Academy. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I've read quite a few MK fictions featuring the Lin Kuei brothers and I have to say yours is the only MK fic that showcased Bi-Han's affection towards Kuai Liang. All of the other stories I've read have Bi-Han reacting coldly towards his younger brother. It's also nice seeing Bi-Han being respectful towards the other members of the Lin Kuei and seemingly approving of Kuai Liang's friendship with Smoke. And I like the ominous setup you have here, foreshadowing Bi-Han's eventual death at the hands of Scorpion in Mortal Kombat. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Shang Tsung is playing a rather dangerous game here with Scorpion's willingness to protect him for this tournament. He better hope the spectre doesn't go against his favor out of spite for Sub-Zero. |
![]() ![]() ![]() A very unsettling chapter as Mileena goes back to the place of her virtual birth, only to find a mangled person in the form of Meat. I'll be honest, reading this chapter made me a bit queasy but the detail and imagination you used was on full display. Definitely would like to study your writing a bit more to maybe curtail to my own writing since it looks like you know what you're doing. Nice work again. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Mileena, the failed clone of Kitana. Still do this day, I don't get why people are so fascinated with a half tarkatan being life herself. Maybe it's her backstory or more obviously, her sex appeal and bloodlust. Either way, nice job in delving into basically what looks like the Deception arc of Mortal Kombat. Now that she has her purpose and new boss, Mileena is now ready to wreak havoc once again. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Cassie does fall short of all the expectations put on her (not her fault) by her mother and father. While not my favorite character in the series, she does show when the chips are down, Cassie can be a better leader than what she is now. Just takes practice and one of my favorite quotes for her to get where she wants to be. "In order to succeed, you first need to fail." Michael Jordan. That quote ties into this chapter. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I like this chapter of Sareena and Kuai Lang coming together to help liberate his brother. A nice touch indeed. Looking forward to the next character you'll put the spotlight on. Who will it be, if I may ask? |
![]() ![]() ![]() This is 100x better than whatever NetherRealm did. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Well, that's an interesting angle you have there. I've read other stories with Mileena under an emotional lens, but not as much as this. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Huh. I think it might be because I've been playing too much MK9 and MKX or been read too many Kuai Liang fanfics where the Lin Kuei were evil, but it is very strange for the original Lin Kuei to be on the side of good, somewhat. I mean, I know that in the bios in MK1 and 2, it explicitly states that both Sub-Zeros were assign to assassinate Shang Tsung, but it still feel strange while I was reading this. However, I do like this chapter and an interesting way to show the relationship between the two Sub-Zeros. |
![]() ![]() ![]() You think you could do a chapter for Jade? Not much is known about her at all from my point of view. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Nice touch on the two Sub-Zeros when Bi Han was Sub-Zero. A bit sad that the Sub-Zero in MK 2011 wasn't Bi Han. I mean, if it's an alternate timeline, not everything should be the same...though I wish they did a better death scene(or scenes) for the characters that actually died in MK 2011 or not kill them off, even though I do like the new characters in MKX a lot. Say, are you thinking of doing a fanfic that dramatically change the events in MK 2011? A lot of writers, as far as I know, on here were doing that during the time after MK 2011 was out. |
