FYI: A dowry is money brought to the marriage by the woman and usually provided by her family. It is never paid by the groom. In some cultures (not western) there is something called a bride price. It is paid by the groom to show that he can provide fore his future wife.

Obviously you have never looked up the definition of a dowry. By definition a dowry is the money and assets that a bride brings to her marriage that is paid to her husband. The husband isn't the party that pays a dowry.

It would be great to have an extra chapter where Lily lets Dumbledore have it.

Really? A blood sister who never cared to visit Harry or keep tabs on him. The bitch is worse than Petunia. No body, even so called Unspeakable sister went to examine the Godrics Hallow house? She could have made effort to find Harry and take him with her. She would have found the dagger and examined it to find out what happened that night. There are useless inconsistencies here, with useless reason to show abused Harry.

Another problem is the almost complete lack of narration, all conversation and little else... and because there seems to be a lack of context it becomes confusing...

I'm sorry to say it but your story (if it is yours) is not worth it.

Before the news about James and Lily breaks, I think you need to write a scene (an OMAKE?) in which Molly sends an obnoxious Howler to Harry about breaking the betrothal contract with Ginny, then insulting Susan, and ordering Harry to rejoin Gryffindor and come to the Burrow during the summer. Of course … Lily DEFINITELY needs to respond to this Howler in person — maybe James and Sirius, too, I think, don’t you? Pleeeease?

This was an interesting piece. I really liked that Harry got the help and support he needed from Hufflepuff. Unfortunately the ending is very abrupt and the story feels unfinished.
