|Reviews for Once Upon a Dream|
| The BritCrit chapter 1 . 8/7/2016
As she did in "At The Strike of Midnight", arisu16 reduces her source material by focusing on a small section of the story where the heroine's dream seems unattainable. It seems that she's very interested in unrequited love, as three of her "minimalist" Poems have depicted the romance between heroine and prince as something which can't possibly last.
This is probably the weakest of arisu16's "minimalist" fairy tale poems so far. The first four lines are excellent, but the last two kill the flow of the poem, as they are too long. I think that there are ways of telling the story within the word limit whilst maintaining the flow of the poem. Furthermore, Sleeping Beauty is a less interesting fairy tale than "Cinderella" or "The Little Mermaid", so I can't care that much about Aurora's plight.
In spite of these criticisms, I enjoyed reading this poem. These "minimalist" retellings are a very interesting experiment...
