Feels a little forced? Nothing is out of the realm of plausibility, but the means don’t justify the end to me.
The whole thing with Mana would feel better if Shinji had agreed before he knew Rei was sick, and Shinji and Asuka have been getting along well for a while so it feels kinda weird for him react so strongly.

Though I do like Shinji’s worrying about falling for anyone nice to him ends up damaging his relationship with the people who like him. Our hedgehogs haven’t been as spiky as they usually are glad to see they still have a few quills.

The yakuza having a backdoor into the magi is dumb.

Thank you so much for this post in regards to the last original chapter you had intended for the original and eventually old version of Neon Metathesis Evangelion. So then I had completely forgotten that Rei, Asuka, and Shinji have to keep their relationship a secret to due to fear of Gendo and not wanting him to simply reuse another Rei without the emotional bonding towards both Shinji and Asuka. Meanwhile I was unaware that Kensuke and Kawrou are a couple. I suppose Kawrou being gay is that ingrained into him. Not that it really bothers me too much since Kensuke and Kawrou is not the main focus of this fan fiction and they are not doing anything too explicit like showering together or anything intimate of that nature. I am more surprised though you didn't hook up Mana and Kensuke.

I do like how you have made Asuka more affectionate and less of an annoying girl. I mean she still does have her temper, but she isn't constantly insulting and berating Rei and Shinj when she is just as emotionally broken as they are. It is adorable how while Rei, Asuka, and Shinji only learned how fun it is to dance with someone who you care about in private where they can be more open with expressing their love for each other. There is not much else I can really say since it has been many years since I read this wonderful germ of a fan fiction.

With how big atleast some of your Chapters are, you might wanna consider dropping them in Chunks of maybe 5 at a Time, so that new Readers do not get scared of by a nearly 300K Wordcount, for a Story that is still ongoing
