the thing about them is that Mai is always sympathetic, and often her emotions get the best of her, ans her temper is also short (probably why Naru reprimands her a lot). On the other hand Naru has so little trust in what Mai does when she can speak for herself and is the type who acts out on her feelings. If she feels like slapping someone when she's offended then she will slap someone (well on this case it proved useful since the cop was doing it on purpose), but Naru doesn't like that, and his reprimanding can get a bit too much, as if Mai can't make her own choices.
