Wish I had more time to comment. Let me just say there are wonderful insights into Matt's thoughts, guilt and tendency to blame himself for things that are not in his control. Looking forward to his conversation with Kitty.

Wow! What an excellent chapter. Of course I already knew that you are a vibrant wordsmith from reading many of your insightful and detailed reviews. I'm so pleased to see that you've taken the step over into writing stories and you are definitely the newest addition to my favorites list.

I love the insight that you've given into Matt, while at the same time, showing the 'Marshal' exterior that everyone defines as his true identity. Even that little detail when he first arrives and stables Buck, then steps again onto Front Street-that his heart was "beating wildly" while his demeanor appeared to be otherwise relaxed, yet all about business.

I'm certainly hooked! Can't wait to read what happens next.

I like the way you take Matt's point of view. I was especially pleased with the perception that "Matt prided himself on being the man he aspired to be... He often fell short, but even when he failed to be that man, he tried to act like that man." I think you've got the very essence of our marshal there. Looking forward very much to the next chapter. Great start! You've done a magnificent job of getting inside Matt's head & to a lesser extent (only because the focus was on Matt, not lack of skill & insight) into Kitty's mental processes. As a result you've painted a complex picture of their relationship & the pressures that continually assault it.

Good start Matt maybe close to realising that he isn't immortal and that Kitty could at any time decide that watching him put his life on the line time after time might not be enough.

I just reread your story again. Mighty fine. I look forward to additional chapters. Looks like an excellent story.
