This is the trippiest thing I have seen in a long time. Not only did I have to read every word to look for changes, but by the end, the words "Today", "new" and "day" no longer look like words to me. Bloody brilliant; well done.

This was an interesting read...to say the least.

It is one of the few readings that genuinely disturbed me.

I like how you leave the story to interpretation, giving clues, both real and false, of what could have happened. The best horror stories are often ambiguous.

My theory is this: Somehow, Team RWBY managed to stop Beacon's downfall, Emerald held a grudge and now has a neurotic obsession with Ruby. Using her semblance, Emerald begins to play with Ruby's mind, and when the team is in the forest, she sets a trap for Ruby and Blake (remember that with effort she can make more than one person see illusions) and after that the poor red street and Zwei died (F), is attacked and almost completely devoured by the Grimm. Emerald
disguises himself as Blake and ""saves"" her...only to plunge her into a nightmarish illusion that would make Itachi Uchiha proud, and taking into account that she made Ruby see that some of the most important people in her life (her sister, her love interest and a kind of mother figure) betrayed her, breaking her poor mind...

...Jesus Christ...like holy shit...this was even more screwed up than what Neo did to him in volume 9, and that's saying something. This is on the level of what Arael did to Asuka in Evangelion. Seriously Emerald, what the fuck?!

Anyway, back to theory. The rest of the team find Ruby dying and try to save her.

This is where the theory breaks down into its possibilities.

In a very bittersweet ending, Ruby survives but is left in a coma, waking up many years later scarred for life both physically and mentally. Blake probably died facing Emerald, though he probably managed to land a killing blow. Yang was likely seriously injured as well, or died as well, leaving Weiss as the only member of the team to help Ruby recover from her (and sorry for the understatement) ordeal. Both manage to establish a relationship and decide to continue their lives together.

In a much bitter end, Ruby dies in the woods from her injuries and the destruction of her mind and hers.

I am definitely taking the first option, it is the only one that will allow me to sleep well tonight.

Definitely an interesting approach to horrow writing, it’s really reminiscent of Doki Doki Literature Club, where it’s kinda the same thing over and over again, but each chapter I gotta do a quick scan of the chapter to see if anything changed other than the day’s ‘update’, and then there are chapters which are suddenly wildly different, like this, which are the closest thing to a jumpscare for a purely text based medium.

Ngl, I had no idea what to expect when I saw that title and description. I saw the horror tag, which just made me more curious. For how little there is here, somehow this is genuinely unsettling.
