maiqsmail chapter 21 . 12/29/2023 Huh, so we have both 5th year Umbitch and 6th year cursed ring on Dumbles at the same time. Interesting... |
maiqsmail chapter 20 . 12/29/2023 I'm a little disgruntled about the ending of Year 4. They pulled a hit on Wormtail and homunculus-Voldi. How come it had zero effect overall on Voldi plans? He was disembodied, the rat and the snake were taken from him and Barty was tied up impersonating Moody under Dumbles' nose. Yet the whole resurrection somehow went as planned with no delays. This feels very artificial, in a "I couldn't afford canon devirgence whatever else happens" way. Boo. |
maiqsmail chapter 19 . 12/28/2023 First of all, before anything else. I highly doubt this number of wizards and witches in UK of 5000 heads. You can't have close to 200 years life expectancy (we have Dumbles born late C19 and he had an OWL examiner that is still oversees exams at late C20). and then have 500-1000 students ranged 11-18 y.o. in Hogwarts alone, not counting those who are home schooled or chose another magical school. In another fanfic I've seen calculations that extrapolated Hogwarts attendance and put UK magical population at under 100k people, which is more believable number, I'd say. I like your set problem of carrying capacity and world population. I don't see this situation improving any in real life as things are, without the governments of the world somehow getting united due to globalisation and thus evening out the quality of life over the whole world, ergo evening out the population growth. For one thing, majority of governments need to un-stuck their heads out of their asses and stop being so corrupt because they're continually choosing short term profit at the expense of everything else. For another thing, the technology level needs to rise drastically, too. Globalism is needed because it simply does not matter how ecologically prudent and careful the whole Western civilization becomes if SEA still stays responsble for majority of emissions and pollutions on the planet. And selective eugenics (not saying how right or wrong that might be) is simply not possible without a united planetwide government, because otherwise stronger countries would throw weaker countries under the bus or forced sterilisation, forcing them to fight back and heretofore neutral countries will join the fight because they would refuse to be next sacrifices and would like to get on "strongest country" throne given the chance. In short, massive bloodbath. That would *still* not solve the population problem because the countries affected would slide down into crisis and people tend to multiply like rodents during crisises with terrible life conditions. And any events that would lead to significant drop of population would at the same time probably trigger nuclear exchange, that would plummet carrying capacity faster than populations plummets and gets us nowhere. Surprisingly, the closest *possible* alternative (I'm not saying good alternative, but possible in real life) would be what's happening now. Developed countries are getting their population replaced by immigration from undeveloped countries. A vast unequality in distribution of wealth sees world wealth and power concentrated at 1% of population, thus modern nobility emerges. Soon, pretty much the same process would play out again - same as what happened at late feudal era. Smaller blobs of countries would get united into few biggest ones. And then, unfortunately, we run into multipolar world problem. We already had Cold war, and i'm stumped as to how we will go through another again. 1984 model where three polar world burns their overproduction and overpopulation in established waste zones of no man land? Star trek nuclear horror era where the world goes into crucible and after huge loss of life emerges united? My little pony model where three vastly different tribes somehow get united under diarchy? Fuck off I know. Now, let's say we introduce HP style wizards into the equation... It honestly throws all calculations out of the window. Not enough information. Does canon UK magical population portray the overall average level of wizarding civilization? Do muggleborns get ostracised the same or worse in other countries, so ruling purebloods would be oblivious to the impending and inevitable Broken Veil scenario in few decades thanks to advances in muggle technology? Are there major political powers in the magical world, muggle equivalents of USA and CCP, UN and NATO? Seeing as how one single person (dumbles) could physically hold positions of headmaster of biggest magical school in UK, leader of wizengamot and leader of ICW simultaneously, I highly doubt the power and abilities of old world magical population, but that still leaves the whole Asia and both Americas. Could these political powers unite and take... drastic measures against muggles ranging from forced sterilisation to final solution? Could they even succeed or they would suicide themselves while trying, crippling Muggle civilization in the process? And the possibilities of magic are another unknown. Could magicals isolate themselves completely like Atlantida? Colonise another planet with inter-planetary portkeys? Create clean and free energy and bona fide perpetuum mobile? Depending on that, the whole different approaches could be taken. Well anyways, thanks for letting me vent. Interesting fanfic. |
maiqsmail chapter 17 . 12/28/2023 Nice Harry and Theo dialogue, but the poor bloke fills all squares on "I will tragically die at the end" bingo. |
maiqsmail chapter 16 . 12/28/2023 Damn, dude, that sucks. |
maiqsmail chapter 14 . 12/28/2023 "I hate this chapter" Bastard, you think I don't, after you ended it on a huge cliffhanger? |
maiqsmail chapter 12 . 12/28/2023 This psychological tripe is starting to seem a bit convoluted. But nevertheless, good chapter. Rest in piss, Wormtail. |
maiqsmail chapter 10 . 12/27/2023 Is this another assassination by poisoning attempt because he dodged the bullet with the Goblet of fire? |
maiqsmail chapter 9 . 12/27/2023 1 I wanted to say Daphne is OOC, but then, we don't exactly have a character here in canon? It's just a majority of fanfics give her a different character. So maybe not OOC, but this Bella-wannabe still creeps me out. 2 Harry thought about Gilderoy while under the Imperius. Could it be that he imperio'd him before and then Obliviated him? (There are some fanfics where Lockfraud is paedophilic sexual offender, memory charms are a pretty brutal thing in canon). Or could it be that Tom somehow imperio'd Harry into crushing Lockhart? Or am I misreading the situation completely and Harry just compared the feeling of mental assault and helplessness between Moody's Imperius and Lockhart's Obliviate? |
maiqsmail chapter 4 . 12/26/2023 I wonder why you're so adamant on "no underage magic during summer" rule. Most of other fanfics conveniently say something like "cannot be tracked in warded houses" (grimmauld 12th here) or"illegal backup wand" (Tom's old wand here) or "cannot be traced if living together with an adult wizard" (Sirius Black here). Also, if you put out such long chapters, any chance you would relax review rules to allow more than one review per chapter? |
maiqsmail chapter 5 . 12/26/2023 Bro dropped heavily censored rape scene with *no* lemons and washed it off with apologies in author notes both before and after the chapter. Chill out, dude, why are you so afraid of doing the lord's work?.. |
maiqsmail chapter 2 . 12/26/2023 Great, and this one perfectly captures how serious Sirius Black is. |
maiqsmail chapter 1 . 12/26/2023 Great severitus chapter. |
Hand chapter 28 . 12/11/2023 I hope great misery befalls She-who-must-not-be-named, as not only has poisoned the world with more transphobic vitriol but also has once more stolen the passion of a beautiful creative mind. On a lighter note, I've thoroughly adored your writing, it has truly been a breath of fresh air. This story has been engaging all the way through, read it in three days and not once did it lose steam. The characterisation has been truly delectable, and you posses bravery let them die that many others lack. The stakes are real and I believe that had you continued into the upcoming war that it would've have the mortality rate that wars tend to have, as it should be. Kudos. Hopefully some of your other work may ensnare my attention like this one has. |
Daybreaker1 chapter 19 . 7/2/2023 The fact that so many people here support Harry's eugenics ideas is incredibly creepy. It's wrong on so many different levels. |
