For Lily I honestly think she was always attracted to James, but kept him at arms length because James was a prick so when he "got his act together" she was all for it.

That said, there's an excellent reason for why the Potter's didn't leave the country. Rowling needed and orphan. Same reason Molly was shouting about muggles at King's cross, Rowling needed to introduce the Weasleys.

You see, here's the thing, Rowling made an honestly pretty interesting world, with tons of potential and then told an incredibly mediocre story in it.

Since I 'grew up' I've never been able to read any of the books to again and I just figured I was over it. Now after a few hundred fanfics I have come to a realization. Canon is shit. Harry is an awful protagonist, literal fucking doormat. I honestly don't think Harry has even an iota of agency in the entirety of canon. His "best friend" is a pillock and his only actual friend (because Ron is only a friend when it suits him whereas Hermione has a few instances of poor judgement but is honestly so loyal I think her Hufflepuff is even stronger than her Ravenclaw) oh and 'Harry' is an awful name. Seriously, if your name is Harry, on behalf of the universe I apologize for your fate. Oh, and in what universe is Draco an instant pick for Slytherin? I'm convinced the whole background for the vanishing cabinet plot was Rowling realizing the only "Slytherin trait" Draco had was being a bully.

During the sorting, Harry is a borderline hatstall because the hat is convinced need work in Slytherin. How? Harry has literally zero cunning and negative ambition. His future plan is eh, don't die and auror. AUROR!? It's literally the only job he's been told exist and he clubg to that like little sheep he is like it's been his dream his whole life or something.

And don't get me started on the frankly uninspiring magic. There was literally 1 interesting duel on canon and that was Dumbledore vs Voldemort in OotP because it wasn't just two dudes slinging projectile spells at each other. Outside of that one duel they might as well have stun guns.

Also, I just realized, what the hell was that final duel Harry? Expelliarmus? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!?

I believe the general concern is is that in that summer between 5th and 6 th year James Potters parents Charlus and Dorea were killed by Voldy in an Attack on their manor...which forced him to look inward and grow more aware

If it wasn't a love potion it was some kind of loyalty potion mixed with compulsions charms, they even say she just suddenly liked him when he "matured" over the summer. My guess is Dumbledore playing his games but who knows

This is a great story- interesting premise and compelling characters - I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes
