Reviews for Double Helix |

![]() ![]() ![]() I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved how your dialogue was in character and distinctive for each different character. I'm intrigued by Brooklyn's slightly nuanced stance on Demona and where that comes from. I think the scenes between Demona and Angela were natural and full of the rage and longing that ought to be there, without being saccharin. I liked that Demona was a double agent the entire time. The story was full of action and kept a very readable pace. My only critique is that one element of the story came off as unbelievable and that is that the clan has no plan to capture and hold Demona, even after all these years of devastation she has called. That really isn't believable, though I realize it was convenient to continue the plot into a subsequent story. Perhaps she could have escaped through some means other than, "That's it. We're done for the night. On your way, Missy?" |
![]() ![]() ![]() This really feels like it could pass as an actual episode of Gargoyles (minus some of the more extreme violence). This is somewhat similar to that one episode from the Goliath Chronicles, in terms of Angela and Demona bonding. The difference being that as was sadly the case with GC, the stakes just weren't that high and were almost solely focused on the Quarrymen. Here, something much more sinister is in the air with Thailog's scheming, making it necessary for Angela to make a truce with Demona. Thailog's shock troopers are definitely a call back to Future Tense; it looks like those clone wars that version of Brooklyn spoke of is on the horizon, and now there's no end to what combinations Thailog can unleash. What's even more horrifying is how Thailog is not only learning from previous mistakes (clones still having free will), but also HOW he goes about correcting them. Growing living beings for his own gain is one thing, but he butchers them afterwards to ensure their obedience. I really was with Goliath on that one. And just to top it off, this entire ordeal was planned. Just how much does the Illuminati really control!? It feels a lot bigger than just Thailog right now, and that's saying something. Can't say whether or not this was intentional, but SOMEHOW you made me hate Margot's character more. I get that she sees the Gargoyles as wild animals, but at least SOME reflection after she gets home would make her realize they just saved her from being robbed, and possibly raped and murdered. Though her husband gets points for at least thanking them, his spineless behavior with his wife is even more grating. Reading this though, I feel I'm missing some things. I don't recall Reynard dying in canon (though by all means he probably should have a long time ago). And I don't remember reading any of the fics here suggesting that. Also, the Gargoyles seemed to have listed some schemes from Demona that I don't remember. Am I really missing something, or were these just meant for exposition of off-screen schemes that Demona committed just to emphasize how dangerous she is? Still enjoying this universe, and I'll be back to read more soon enough. |
![]() ![]() ![]() A quick question, could they clone Coldstone, heck even Coldfire and Coldsteel from Coldstone's organic half? |
![]() ![]() you should write a story about Shari getting her hand on the mutagen from the burney relief |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thailog's at his creepiest here. Everything he's done is more than just evil, it's downright unsettling when you really think about it. He played everyone like a fiddle. |
![]() ![]() ![]() You're well aware of the special hatred I have towards TGC Episode "Generations," so I'll keep quiet about that. So, needless to say, this fic was a HUGE breath of fresh air. So many little touches that really made it great, such as continuing to see Brendan stand on his own two feet, and also the fact that you obviously understand gargoyle culture. Now that Brooklyn and Katana are back in Manhattan, the role of Nashville and Tachi's parents has extended to the rest of the clan. You don't see that in a lot of gargoyles fanfics. You couldn't have found a better way for Demona to make her first appearance in the story. There's something so off-putting about seeing her hold a hatchling. And I loved the interactions between her and Angela. Unlike some shit-show I watched once (*cough*Generations*cough*), Angela hasn't forgotten about the events of "Hunter's Moon." She knows Demona cares, but she's also smart enough to recognize what Demona is. Also, great job with Castaway. He actually has a head on his shoulders. I'll admit, I laughed when I read about a mysterious figure watching Demona and Angela, because I knew you wouldn't go there, so I was wondering who it really was. And then we found out... it was good to to Tamara again. Demona making a deal with Thailog... is actually a LOT more plausible than her working with the Quarrymen. The resources she had access to as Dominique brought her VERY close to her goal. So I could see her be willing to make a devil's deal to still have access to that. Of course, I can't wait to see what happens when she finds out that Thailog hasn't destroyed Cordelia. Overall, very good fic. Can't wait to read more. |
![]() ![]() Another strong fic. Particularly love the conception of Goneril and Regan - total genius. Cordelia will be intriguing too and I love the machinations of Tamora and the Illuminati. What the public/police make of Shock Trooper Zero will be very interesting. “I’ve missed your resounding wit” is a classic Thailog line. Also love that you’ve made the Gathering plays canon. Leaving Tachi was a bit of a hoary way to introduce Demona but the pay-off at the end was totally worth it. Like the best twists, it was so plausible that I mostly expected it but then by the end had been completely suckered in. Angela’s hug was unexpected and interesting. I love the characterisation of Brooklyn. Keep up the good work. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Another neat addition to the topsy-turvy saga tat is Demona and Angela's relationship. I think you do a great job of balancing their obvious desire to form some sort of relationship and the equally obvious reality that their respective beliefs won't allow it. Particularly regarding Angela, as much as she may love her mother, she won't let that blind her to the truth of what Demona is. 'Tis rare to see in gargfic. The other big thread in this fic is Thailog uping his game as a villain. The Wise Man has always advocated that recurring villains should become MORE dangerous with each appearance and you're clearly applying that philosophy to everybody's favorite evil clone. With his ever growing roster of minions, Thailog feels more and more feels like a Big Bad in his own right, easily on par with Demona or Xanatos. Speaking of Thailog's minions, 'tis nice to see Gonril and Reagin reintroduced into the world of fanfic. They are fun and creepy. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Another excellent story. I just love how powerful Thailog has become and I love the tension between Demona and Angela. Great use of the daughter's of Lear for the Angela clones and I remember Taina's art for them. I was a bit surprised by the twist at the end and again I felt like I shouldn't have been. I also love how mature Brooklyn has become. Looking forward to more. |
![]() ![]() ![]() It was all right. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for another great story. I love the clone OCs you introduced, twin gargoyles (even if artificial) is something we've never seen before. Demona up to her old tricks again, although this time perhaps the biggest trick was on her. Thailog is becoming quite the threat, isn't he. |
