I like how contained it is. One of the important things about writing Worm fanfiction is the scale of the story. Containing yourself to a single event and arc instead of traversing the entire plot line lets you actually finish to some degree.

Well I guess we know what he likes to do in his down time, however he also asked a very valid question... One that reminds me of many a fortress from the past.

Stumbled onto this last night, started reading and couldn’t put it down till I was finished.

Spoilers.
All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It depicts several humans riding a scorpion chasing a girl, the humans and scorpion are laughing the girl is crying, later it depicts the reverse, the girl is laughing while the scorpion and it’s riders are fleeing.

I remember reading this a few years back, and after reading it again I think its still an awesome fic. Thanks for writing!

What a great little fic. I never expected to come across a Dwarf Fortress fanfic that was an enjoyable read, but this fic was a very clever example of how you can take a impersonal source material and apply it to a story. Im going to have to go through some RTS game fanfiction sections, now.

I smile at the solution you used to answer to the problem of what was evidently broken, overpowered superhumans trying to kill a Dorf Fortress. Simply edit the raws! Or open DF Hack and spawn obsidian on top of them, but Raws is more fun.

I do feel that a final confrontation was unfairly skipped, and those 179 dwarves who died in that dining hall died for nothing - i was never expecting them to carry the day, but i was hoping that they would at least whittle down some of the invaders. Drop some sneaky drawbridges, unleash a swarm of angry quantum storage guinea pigs, that kinda thing.

Thing is, though, perhaps i shouldnt have hoped for that. Ive not ever read Worm, see, only knowing about it by association with internet culture, so i have no real idea just how overpowered these invaders are.

In fact, every single one of my gripes with the story do stem from me being completely unfamiliar with a full half of the story's source material - So, Overseer/Krakatoa becoming a literal god who resides in a specifically defined zone... is that the sort of thing that Worm's story can provide, or is it a case of a Mary Sue using a Deus Ex Machina to save the day? I simply dont know.

And i do wish, most of all, that there was just a little bit more post-story content. Urist and the Children are alive, as far as the story implies, but id have liked to see something come of that. How are the children doing? Some of them would be "Of Age" to work, as of the epilogue, so Dorf society continues - but id have liked to see some of that in action.

If you ever take up the post of Writer again and launch into another Dwarf Fortress fanfic, or decide to write a continuation or sequel to this fanfic, i will absolutely be on board.

2/10 no dwarf spontaneously gave birth in the middle of combat and used the newborn as a cudgel. What dwarf fortress are you playing!?

I have no idea what worm is, but when I suddenly came to the Realization that there might just be a Dwarf Fortress section of FanFiction, I had to check it out. Consider me surprised when I came across something quite metal.

I’ll keep reading this, since I’ve only just finished chapter one, but I’m already so into it. I’m also tabbed our reinstalling Masterwork Dwarf Fortress for the first time in two years, so between that and this fic my day is set.

Onwards, mighty dorfs! For glory and inevitable, painful deaths!

(Also, that furry convention that has the park next weekend is going to be in for quite a surprise when they find a random dwarf colony on their land. “A Beastman! Drive it away!” Poor furries.)
