The Eschaton chapter 42 . 12/30/2021 Good work |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 42 . 12/21/2021 Seems like we’re really jumping back into the Voltron side of things and it is epic so far! Liked the small detail of Lelouch being suspicious of the king, seems like the kind of thing he’d notice. And they now have a place to house all those poor refugees so they’re not sitting ducks in a space battle. The addition of Lloyd and Rakshata really helped the production of Mechs, and I was pleasantly surprised when we saw the wooden Lancelot and Guren in action. Cool to see that everyone’s piloting skills give them something of an advantage over the rest of the people of the universe. The fight with the Cube had the same major beats, which I am perfectly okay with, canon did a great job of the execution already so there wasn’t much that needed to be changed. Did like that addition with Rai’s Geass activating in response to him bonding with Zerith, intrigued to see if this will happen with the other Paladins. And don’t worry about taking too long with updates, this story is a passion project for you. Writing it should be a fun process, not a chore, and while I can’t speak for everyone, I am content to wait. Plus, you being in a better mood usually means the chapter will be better, so it’s better for everyone if you just work at whatever pace suits you. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 41 . 12/19/2021 Well this was an interesting turn of events. We have basically confirmed that Lelouch and Nunally take Keith’s role as the Galra hybrid. And I am very interested in what you are doing with her character. While having such a completely sweetheart in the cynicism of Code Geass was a breath of fresh air, at times she felt more like a plot device than a cigar after with agency. You have completely averted that here, and added a sense of agency to her character. Having her show insecurity about her contribution to the cause feels in character given how they’re trying to bring about peace, as well as the fact that this far she’s only ever been used by people or protected by her brother and his allies. Plus, that stubbornness is a nice little reminder that she is Lelouch’s sister. Joining the Blade of Marmora is a great way to give her an expanded role, similar to what Keith did, but without sacrificing the presence of one of the Paladins, and I am interested to see how that plays out. And nice change to the solution to the test for the Blade. Keith’s felt more challenging with the lateral thinking aspect, but it feels believable that the primary goal is to teach recruits to know their limits, especially in the case of the recently recovered Nunally. Though I have to say that while I find the idea interesting and look forward to seeing how it is implemented, the image of Nunally Vi Brittania, probably the gentlest character in all of Code Geass, being a member of a badass covert op group of Galra rebels is hilarious! |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 40 . 12/17/2021 This was a very nice take on the bonding experience. The Paladins jumping to help out Lelouch against Zarkon felt both in-character and a great way to show off the value of teamwork over individual power. Plus, it was cool to see the Paladins actually holding their own against the Big Bad himself. Though keeping the end with Zen intervening was a still the best way to finish it in my opinion and shows that even if they’ve improved, the Paladins still have a ways to go to match Zarkon. I was especially surprised at Nunally pulling off those move in the mindscape, really shows off that she’s Lelouch’s sister. It also makes me intrigued to see what direction you take her character in. And that ending is definitely Lotor, calling it now. Seems he has a soft spot for Cera. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 39 . 12/13/2021 While this was a mostly by-the-books chapter, it was still enjoyable. The framing device of Coran expanding on Zarkons motivations worked well as an extension from the last chapter. Liked the addition of the two Paladins, felt like it added more depth to Allura’s mother and Iris was a nice way to fill out the ranks. Can’t say I’m too invested I the original Paladins however, outside of Alfie and Zarkon we don’t get to learn much about them beyond first impressions. At the very least, everyone has a better understanding of Zarkons motivation. And I like the addition of the theory about those black creatures, they didn’t really elaborate on them in canon. And Lelouch going in without a plan, that’s how you know things are dire. Looking forward to reading the next one! Sorry to hear you lost your passion for your other story, but glad that you kept it for this one. Really enjoying it so far and hope to see it reach the end. Also, just realised, since you gave Rai the voice of Dante Bosco, that means he’s voicing another scarred, exiled prince with a horrible father and a loving mother. Not to mention joining in the fight against his homeland (albeit much sooner). The irony is that he actually has a positive relationship with his younger sister (who I predict will have the voice of Grey de Lisle) and an antagonistic one with his dear old uncle. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 38 . 12/11/2021 This was a wonderfully written aftermath chapter. Everyone’s emotions are that mix of low and high from a bitter defeat and all the lovely character interactions really helped capture that. Glad that Milly, Kallen and Rivalz’s families are supportive even if they are apprehensive about the whole thing, feels like a very human reaction. And I love the expansion you gave to Rivalz’s background while staying true to what we have from canon. Really feels like there’s so much more depth to his character to explore. Shirley’s parents being more conflicted sadly makes sense, especially given her father’s occupation, and I applaud you for not shying away from the fact that not everyone will be immediately on board with all this. Rai seems to be getting along with Nonette at least, while Suzaku’s whole scene with Euphemia was touching, and a great way to show off his character development. And I see some more Lotor foreshadowing in C.C., sorry, Cera’s flashback. Poor girl actually found some proper friends after all this time. Lelouch and Cornelia’s reconciliation warmed me to my heart, nice to see them both regain a friend they thought they had lost. This scene was built up very well and the execution was excellent, especially the mutual promise to hold back on the self sacrifice. The final scene with the Paladins revealing that Zarkon was the former black paladin felt organic as well, with those delivering the news doing so in a way that was hesitant and very in-character. Curious to see how the other react. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 37 . 12/9/2021 I was expecting an epic battle this chapter and you really delivered! The whole battle between the Voltron alliance and the Galra-Brittanian forces had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The villains threw a lot at the heroes, between the Mao Robeast and the Siegfried, and it felt all the more epic when they triumphed. Two things that really made this whole thing great was how almost every major character felt like they were doing their own important thing, with Tohdoh facing off against Corza, Allura fending off V.V., Cornelia’s group fighting Jeremiah in the Siegfried and Voltron itself facing against the Mao-Beast. The fact that Nonette had to make a sacrifice play against the Siegfried feel all the more earned, and Cornelia and Tohdoh losing a literal piece of themselves over the course of the battle really helped set the stakes, without having to just kill more characters off for drama. The whole confrontation with V.V. felt tense all the way through and somehow I hate him even MORE now, which made him being slammed to a wall and shot feel oh so satisfying. Self-righteous, hypocritical man child bastard, try to kill one of the nicest characters in either franchise will you? NOT TODAY! It felt fitting to have Shirley be the one to deliver the decisive blow to the Mao-Beast, and I love the strengthened bond she shows with Zinnia. Also, calling it now, the Paladins bond with their Lions will mesh with their Geass’ somehow, either by giving them extra powers (like Lelouch’s lightning) or letting them use unique abilities while piloting said Lions. The entire scene with Zarkon gave me chills, really shows just why he is so feared across the universe. It also made the subsequent scene with Lelouch all the more impactful, especially the part where Zen SPOKE, with the completed Geass being the icing on the cake. Looks like our favourite revolutionary is starting to really bind with his Lion. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 36 . 12/9/2021 And the retaliation begins. Like the explanation, both in and out of universe, as to why Charles would willingly side with the Galra, besides Haggar threatening to murder him. It’s completely devoid of any semblance of morality or empathy, but it does make strategic sense. Props to you for managing to recapture the horror of Euphemia dying without having to actually kill her off. Her being in critical condition makes everyone (especially poor Suzaku) just as tense as they were in canon, and actually feels more tense to the readers (or me at least) since we’re not sure how she’ll recover. No That entire scene with Suzaku was a gut puncher, though I like how it showed of his character development. Plus, this was probably the best time to have him form a contract with C.C., and I am curious to see how his works. Schneizel continues to be a badass, nerves of steel at their finest, and I hope he gets a chance to work some of his magic against the Galra. Or at least find a way to let Voltron know where he is. Despite being short on time, it seems Voltron and the Black Knights are doing a good job preparing the forces they can, making good use of all the tech and manpower they have at their disposal. Next chapter is sure to be an epic battle. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 35 . 11/29/2021 Well… that escalated quickly. I did not expect the Galra to arrive that bloody quickly, which I suppose was the point. And the fact that the Galra were even willing g to make an ‘alliance’ at all really caught me off guard. Inn that note: Charles you fuck! The scenes with the SAZ were well done, clever move releasing all their ‘prisoners’ as a show of good faith, as well as unveiling the identities of most of the Paladins. Really sells the fact that they’re trying to forge an equal alliance. Seems to have worked since not all the Brittanian forces are following Charles’ orders, and I’m particularly glad to see that Schneizel is among them. Just the idea of him and Lelouch being on the same side makes me giddy with all the plots they can cook up together. Rolo‘s inclusion was a surprise, though it makes perfect sense in hindsight, letting the perfect assassin arrive at a location where they know several Paladins will be. Though I have to wonder how in the HELL two of the Lions failed to kill him from a few feet away. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 34 . 11/28/2021 So Euphemia has more or less joined Voltron, hooray! And she brings up the SAZ plan like in canon, which will at least give them a platform to talk about the Galra. Like how they discuss the pros and cons of the whole approach, everyone felt very in character and both sides gave good reasons for why they should and shouldn’t do it. The fact that they’re short on time presents a plausible reason for why the more cynical members would agree to the plan. And oh boy, Haggar has finally met with Charles and V.V., that can only mean things are about to go downhill very damn fast. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 33 . 11/26/2021 This chapter had quite a few reveals, both internal and for the audience. Euphemia has a nice reunion with Lelouch, while Nonette has a rather bittersweet one with Rai/Zephyr. On that note, interesting what we’ve got so far for Rai’s origins. Also kind of funny that he’s related to Lelouch AND Suzaku. Curious to find out how he and his family got into space. Once again, you manage to do a great job with the original Geass power. Each one feels useful and interesting, with a good balance between the usefulness and limitations and they all fit the personalities of the characters who get them. And having them gain each in certain circumstances makes their introduction feel much more organic than ‘oh, let’s all jump on the magical eye bandwagon’. Props to Lelouch for (even unintentionally) screwing over V.V.’s plan, was so very satisfying watching him have a This Cannot Be moment. Sadly, he may have unintentionally helped Haggar in the process. So many plots set up and I’m excited to see how they all play out. |
Sarcasm Sage 626 chapter 32 . 11/25/2021 Another nice chapter. Lelouch and the Paladins are given a believable reason to go along with Nonette’s request, especially with the conditions Lelouch gave to her. And of course Schneizel being Schneizel found a way to screw over everyone involved. On that note I’ve gotta say, they developed that anti-Lion weapon very bloody fast. They haven’t even been back a month yet, I think. As much as it pains me, I agree with your criticism that your fight scenes aren’t the best, at this point anyway. Though rest assured they are by no means bad either. I swear if I find another story that uses the phrase ‘and then he punched him hard’ three times in a row again it will be too soon. And marvellous job with V.V. He’s only been onscreen for a few seconds and he’s already established himself as a large threat with what he pulled on the Lions. Curious to see how the Island plot plays out in this version. |
sonicfighter21354 chapter 42 . 11/25/2021 This is an awesome chapter. Look like the Black Knights got their first mission beyond Earth when they help the Paladins liberate Olkarion. I though that Lelouch getting back at Milly by having her be married then latter divorced Lloyd was pretty funny. I also love the Wooden Knightmares, they look awesome. And for a second, I thought Lelouch have give Lubos his two cents since Charles betrayal on Earth is still fresh in his mind. I'm looking forward to see what happens next. Keep up the good work, my friend. |
jetslinger333 chapter 42 . 11/24/2021 I nice planet for the team to place the refuge and for them to help with the war effort providing knightmares and other things. Still it be a while before the team go on another voyage again like the space mall. |
