Nah, Luke and Leia could train Jedi together, but they should be outside BOTH the Republic AND the Empire, or with joint backing - that way they are neutral not taking sides or opposing each other. The idea of Luke creating another group than Jedi however is anathema, as he is the last Jedi in RotJ. Leia is not.

Mara/Luke *will* still be happening tho right? They work so well and balance each other perfectly. I think as soon as she sees the truth, and really works through that, the timing being earlier wouldn't matter so much, because it's her emotions that were getting in the way, not the timing.
