![]() ![]() ![]() Regulus' goodbye broke my heart |
![]() ![]() ![]() This is so good! Regulus is such a BAMF It's awful he had to kill 2 human-like creatures (a friendly face and someone he was terrified of, once with basically with his own bare hands) to win the game, contrary to Sirius slicing and dicing a Kreacher-looking goblin... James only sliced and diced some monster spiders, did he even do anything except for flirting with his best friend's little brother?! xD But yeah, I really loved it! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I love this. I want more |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was a very fun story. Definitely interesting and engaging. :D |
![]() ![]() ![]() I love you It took me two nights to finish reading this and I didn’t want to finish it bc I didn’t want it to end I’m obsessed. This is brilliant. I love how you tied the characters in with their game counterparts, subtly enough but still giving each of them the same motives and goals. I loved the worldbuilding and how captivating the game was. I didn’t expect an out of game perspective too, that was a gorgeous addition (also that “I’m your professor, not your mate” line JESUS on par w “no need to call me sir, professor”) Also this is the first I’ve read jamulus and damn I’m hooked and I absolutely hate you for it so if you could redirect me to every fic of them you know of I’d be v grateful. This is just perfection. I love it and I love you and I kinda just wanna reread it now or like. Watch a movie version of it or something. Love |
![]() ![]() ![]() This has a lot of words... And I love all of them. This review is going to be as I read, so, don't expect coherency - not that you ever expect that from me, but fair warning nonetheless. "I hope they had the decency to at least give him a wig." - I just died laughing. All I can picture is Voldemort in a Marilyn Monroe wig. Oh my days. Pausing to add a bit. The Lucius trolls are fabulous, and I'm digging Regulus so far. He's got sass. I love that the Scholar - Moony (Brilliant!) is just like... dude. What you sayin? Awww. James is so awkward! Fennyben - Benjy Fenwick. I just fell more in love with you than I already am. I actually just shouted at my laptop for them not to trust Wormbill. What the hell is wrong with me? "Anyone else think she sounds like Evans?" - Omg. That's classic. Wow. I have no words for James and Regulus talking about tongues. That's fantastic. Just taking a second to point out that I seriously feel for Remus right now. He's jealous and worried, and just awwwww bless him. Oh. "Give me a minute mate I just died." - McGonagall - Dude, I am not your mate! Yassssss! You go Regulus! Omg, allllll the yesses to this fic, Amber. You're a genius, a queen and I bow before you because omg. Just. I love you. So much. This is life and love and everything and. I love you. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was so creative. So very creative, and I just loved how flawlessly you connected all the characters true personalities/future into the story and the confusion. Remus being the mentor, Peter betraying them and Regulus defying Voldemort/Bellatrix. It played in so perfectly and I loved every moment of it. I loved all the little additions added in too such as Lucius!Trolls, and Aragog!humans and it really had an Alice in Wonderland feel, especially the troll part haha. The end had me almost in tears. I was like... wait... Regulus died and I wasn't sure if he'd come back. But phew! he did. Thank you for sharing this, Amber. I loved it! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Wow! What a ride! I really enjoyed it and your take on the characters is interesting. I like the prophetic feel to the whole story and the wonder emanating from it. I also love the way the relationships progressed, though they seem a little fast. I saw no errors or anything to fix, either. Great job! I really enjoy au fics and you took my breath away with this one! |
![]() ![]() ![]() *looks at wordcount* I can't do this. I just can't. Sorry. *slightly later* Aaaaaaaaaand I did it. Wow. This was seriously wonderful. I've never seen a game!AU but now I want to go see some more if they're all like this. The whole story is so original and I've never seen anything quite like it. And that's kind of hard to do in fanfic (especially HP) so I'm just giving you points for that. (And of course the very mention of Bellatrix made me love it.) |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was incredible! When I saw it was 10k I was a little apprehensive because I have an awful attention span, but while I was reading it, it didn't seem that long at all and I'm not sure it would have worked as well as it does if it had been split up into chapters. I've only ever read two James/Regulus fics before and every time I do it makes me start shipping them a little bit. This, however, has fully converted me. I loved your characterisation of both of them and the interactions they had, especially when they were flirting. The humour you injected into it just made it a much sweeter pairing and showed the reader how much fun they would have together. I loved the premise of the game. It seemed like a bit of a cross between Jumanji and D&D and you managed to construct the world so perfectly. It's clear you've given it a lot of thought, especially with the game using people they know in real life and adapting their characters to exaggerate their dominant personality traits (like Moony being the scholar and Marlene wanting to kill Sirius). You had me so engaged with the story that I really felt like I was going on the jurney with the characters, and when it got to the end and Moony and Regulus were both sent to their deaths, I was absolutely heartbroken. I'm so glad Regulus was still alive when they got back to real life, though. I'm not sure I'd have been able to cope if he wasn't. Great job :) |
![]() ![]() ![]() I have been putting this off because of its length, but, tbh, now that I've read it, I sorta wish I read it sooner X) Okay, the pairings! I'm always a slut for Wolfstar, and although I was apprehensive when I saw James/Regulus, I thought you did it (and the Wolfstar, ofc) beautifully and wonderfully; they felt very in character, to me, but the relationship wasn't forced at all. I found myself squealing at all the romance bits. Killing Moony was NOT okay. I hope you know that. Also, killing Regulus wasn't okay. I cried at both, but at least Remus and Regulus were both alive in real life. I've had bad experiences with games that had real life consequences... *glares at one certain fandom* Wormbill sending them to their deaths was amazing! It does make me wonder: why was in-game Marlene a cannibal? What was the real-life relation? I also love the in-game names XD I spotted three SPaG mistakes (even though one was most definitely a typo X)): ["Would you like the honors."]-change period to a question mark [Dark LadySomeone from our memories]-add a period and a space between 'Lady' and 'Someone' ["Lucky for you Slytherins have]-add a comma in between 'you' and 'Slytherins' Overall, I loved this fic a lot. I loved the action and the romance and the characterization-just everything ahhh &hearts |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was a wonderful story, but I don't expect anything less from you. I've read a couple of game!AUs but one that I enjoyed as much as yours. It was original, creative, and I wanted to keep reading without stopping or even blinking. Usually, I have trouble staying focused on a one-shot that is over 3k, but you're kept my attention. Your characterizations were great, especially the contrast between Sirius and James. I was so scared for Regulus, especially because I know you sometimes don't write happy endings, but I held out hope that they would get their happy ever after since it was a gift fic. And once again, you didn't disappoint. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was a great story. As usual, you created a believeable, original and compelling story. The characterisations were on point, and the whole thing felt very much like a D&D game. I like the way Sirius throws himself into his relationship, whereas James is cheeky but cautious. Regulus was well characterised too, despite the fact that I don't like this pairing at all. One negative point about this is that it's really too long for a one-shot. I know that there's no real limit, but it felt like the reader was obliged to read it in one sitting, instead of being able to take their time with it and enjoy it more. I think this would have worked a lot better as a 2-3 shot, but that's just personal preference. Other than that, my heart jumped in my throat when Regulus sacrificed himself, and I enjoyed the way each of the game characters were similar to real life (excepting Marlene, Alice and Frank). I was a little disappointed Lily wasn't in it, but Bellatrix was a great choice for a dark lady. An enjoyable read :) |
![]() ![]() ![]() First of all, sorry this took so long! I could have sworn I already reviewed :( Anyway: Thank you so much for writing this! I absolutely loved it! This was so brilliantly written! I really loved the game; I thought that was a really interesting idea, and I loved how the game changed depending on who was playing it. I really loved how people they knew were making appearances, and how aspects of their personality had been amplified to the extreme — at least, that’s what I’m hoping for in Marlene’s case :P — I really loved how Regulus was there accidentally — though, from the game’s perspective, it was probably intentional — and how it adapted when it didn’t feel like they were moving fast enough or doing what it wanted (things like the fire, I mean). Like it seemed as if the game was also a character, and I really loved that. Your characterisations were amazing, particularly the dialogue and interactions between the characters. I loved the little details — like Sirius counting on his fingers to check there was actually two of them, James’ shampoo prank, and how Remus and Peter normally stand and watch as James and Sirius make mistakes — but how each character had multiple aspects of their personalities shown here. Peter really stood out to me here (though obviously Regulus was my favourite :P) because you showed a more vulnerable side of him; he wasn’t weak or only friends with them because he had no one better, he was just an unsure kid who was more than a little freaked out about seeing what his NPC in the game was doing. I also really loved how Remus and Peter (and later, Albus and Minerva) could see everything that was going on in the game. It was really interesting to see it from another perspective, and I thought it added a new level to this story that made it stand out even more than it already does. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write this, I really love it :D |
![]() ![]() ![]() Love the story. |
