Also, in the context of writing, the whole “no plan survives contact” thing only really works of the readers know the original plan, which we don’t. Why were Weiss and Cinder waiting outside? Additionally, what kind of plan to help Ilia escape from the fang would’ve required them to even be at the rally in the first place? If you want to take the next step, these are the questions you’ll need to learn to answer in the story without first being asked.

A few lines of dialogue can do it:

“We have an opportunity here, they don’t know Ilia wants out, we can catch them unaware if we attack them now”

That’s not bulletproof (why does Ilia chafing sides matter in that context) but it’s far better than nothing.

Why the hell wouldn’t Blake just take ilia and run? Instead, she sent ilia to attack Ruby and then fucked right off, that makes no sense at all.

It almost feels like you just wanted to have Ruby revert just so you could have her problems last longer. That’s not good writing, that’s just lazy.
