Reviews for In the Black |

![]() ![]() ![]() I absolutely love your work. Your writing style is amazing and the storyline is fantastic. I’m re-reading to tide me over until the next instalment of Black Mask appears. Sincerely hope it won’t be too much longer :) Sirius’ whole family is brilliant. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Bloody hell! This was a brilliant chapter! Everyone seemed to be spot-on not out of character, especially the Black family - I just love Sirius' strange hate relationship he has with his estranged parents and brother, but somehow or maybe just a little (in my eyes at the end of the chapter he sorta, soften a little or perhaps it was just due to the effects of the curse he'd been hit with). I'd always been wanting to read where Reg actually survives and well comes to his brother and explains to his family what had happened. Somehow you actually managed to make me not to hate Walburga and Orion Black like I do in canon (which I loath them tremendously) and you also showed a much more realistic side to them - kudos to you! Also I do have to admit, besides the Potters, Remus, Sirius and others etc. . . , the Black family fascinates me on certain things for some strange reason that I can't exactly pin-point what it is that intrigues me about them! Oh poor Regulus, such a cinnamon roll that needs to be deeply loved! He's also my fave character too! It's so sad that Sirius hadn't known the truth of his little brother and for what he died for and if he had ever knew. . .who knows how Sirius might have thought of little Reg. The two Black brothers shared a terrible fate in the end that's just heartbreaking! You have me gripped onto this story! ;) |
![]() ![]() Manipulation at its finest. |
![]() ![]() "I'm not always going to be there to bail you out when you get in trouble." Ouch. (Remembering Canon) |
![]() ![]() Poor Reg. |
![]() ![]() ![]() As much as I love Sirius can I just say I loved Orion in this chapter. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This is an excellently written, intelligent and unique plot! I wish the series were complete. I don’t want to have to wait for more. I have a policy of never starting an incomplete story, but I’m definitely going to have to bend it for the rest of this series. Again, excellent work. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I am absurdly happy that I've found this story, and even more happy to see that it has a sequel that's being updated. This is one of the best stories I've read for Harry Potter, (or in general)—definitely the best in terms of the characterization of Sirius. Your nuanced take on Walburga, Orion, and Regulus is interesting and refreshing. Beyond that, however, your writing has a deftness, humor, flow, and cleverness to it that I can only envy—it brings the story and its characters to life. I can't wait to get started on "Black Mask." |
![]() ![]() ![]() - Spoilers Below - You write Sirius so well. I’m loving it. It’s also really great to see how Lily, James, and Remus have such a good grasp on Sirius’s character and personality. “That you can’t run away from them again.” That must have been so hard for Sirius to hear. I think you really got Sirius (and the gang’s) voice down. Sirius still is so young and despite being on his own for three years he’s still not the adult he thinks he is. James and Lily spilled some hard truths, but it was totally necessary. I’m glad they were truthful with him. |
![]() ![]() ![]() - Spoilers below - First off, omg Walburga cried! I absolutely love Walburga and Orion. I’ve always pictured them as a power-couple but a lot of times when I read fics about them it’s either Walburga who is in charge and ‘evil’ and Orion is a push-over, etc. But, you give them both equal agency and fierce personalities. I love (and appreciate) that. The conversation between Walburga and Orion was just perfect. You’ve really done a great job with them so far. We know so little about them (and Regulus), it’s been great to read. “Perhaps, we’ve – underestimated Regulus.” Understatement of the century! Now we can sorta see why Walburga and Sirius argue so much. They have matching personalities and traits. Sirius is top-notch in this chapter. Between his conversation with Regulus and then with Remus. I’m loving how you’re fleshing him (and Regulus) out. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I started reading this last summer but fell way behind and now I've finally been able to read it completely this past week and I'm going back to review it so please bear with me and don't mind the notifications :) I absolutely love this story and your writing style! I knew I was in for something great when I first saw this fic and I wasn't disappointed. The back and forth between Dumbledore and Lily, Dumbledore and the Blacks, and then Sirius and his mother is great! I'm really enjoying the characterization and insight into the Blacks, including Sirius. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This story deserves so much praise as I have said before. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Beautiful Start! Always love seeing people go more into the Black Family dynamic. Now I get to see it like this (Deserves more reviews the first chapter was brillaint) has me wishing the Black family didn't get torn in two. Hope to see more in the future. Felt good seeing Sirius trying his best to make sense out of all that has happened in less than a span of half-a day maybe. Anyways I seen there is a sequel can not wait to finish this story up entirely and keep moving forward! |
![]() ![]() ![]() This story blew me away. I have my own ideas about the Black Family dynamics, but my headcanon was more plot- and lore-oriented than character-driven, which is what you've done here. And it's so perfect. I've always thought characterization is the Harry Potter series' biggest weakness, but I guess I fell for that as well. Which is why I'm so glad to have read this story, and it's going to be my headcanon for a long, long time. I already had it in my head that Sirius and Walburga are more alike than they would've been fond of, but you've SHOWN how that manifests in their relationship as mother and child. Orion, meanwhile, I find myself at loss considering that there is not much we can go from based on canon apart from the fact that he died young (I don't consider many things canon, but the Black Family Tree has always been the exception from all the content released post-series). But you made a brilliant back story as to why he appears to be not involved in his sons' home life at all. Previous fics I've read made me partial to Arcturus as a kind grandfather, but your back story made perfect sense from a characterization perspective. It explained many things, including Orion having his own daddy issues that he doesn't figure into Sirius' life that much. It's amazing, how it all ties together. I like your Dumbledore a lot. I've grown to hate his character after reading so many fics dealing with Harry's home life, but this Dumbledore is as good as when the character first appeared. All-knowing and manipulative in a way that people benefit or learn something about themselves. It's the well-meaning grandfather all over again. I'm so glad to see Regulus alive. He's my favorite character because there is so much potential with him. His brotherhood with Sirius shines through so well that I am so glad you wrote this fic, along with Black Mask. Thank you for sharing. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I am amazed that I have first found this story now It is brialliant & you really give life to your characters Yours Sincerely Story Cipher |
