Guest chapter 4 . 2/8/2023
Oh, Jon is sixteen? Fifth year Hogwarts students are fifteen or sixteen, so a wizarding world Jon might start or have part of fifth year as a sixteen-year-old depending on his birthdate. Based on Hogwarts Legacy (the video game released this month), those with “ancient magic” don’t start Hogwarts until fifth year (probably just a plot device to not make the main character a first year)...maybe when Hermione and Teddy arrived in Westeros with the portkey necklace on Jon’s life timeline? “Ancient magic” would seem something tied to Targaryen bloodline/Old Valyria popping up in Jon Snow/prophesied savior of world. And, ancient magic would seem like something Hermione would study/be interested in but could not use herself easily and require Jon’s learning of magic and plot involvement. If Jon Snow noticed something odd/the Targaryen necklace responds only to him since he turned fifteen or sixteen (age of fifth year student), I’d say that would be a good sign of him having ancient magic. And, it would explain why Hermione didn’t arrive in his life/bring him to school to teach him magic until his current age. As to why he has ancient magic and not Hermione or Teddy, well Teddy is a metamorph (rare ability), divination powers can pop up randomly in families, parseltongue could probably pop up randomly in families...meh, just say it is a random rare trait that pops up once in a while, like original timeline Bran being a greenseer but no one else in the family. Hermione probably should have been in Jon’s life sooner, but “ancient magic” would explain Jon not showing potential/having magical accidents earlier, why Hermione arrived when she did, and Jon likely could help her figure out ancient magic of necklace (or other sites in the land like Old Valyria) to escape Westeros. But, if the truth of Jon’s parentage comes out...will it look like she used him as an ancient magic detector/used coldly for her own research/is evilly manipulating Jon? Miriam Fig in the videogame traveled all over the world to gather evidence on disappearance of ancient magic, so that sort of sounds like what Hermione is doing with soul magic?

Looks hard to stop a war here and work with the Lannisters for peace, since that would mean Cersei’s three kids out of the royal line of succession and shame for House Lannister. Tywin is the only one with power to start the war due to the insult to Cersei/Lannister name and if you could replace him with Teddy metamorphed into Tywin for a few weeks... Sure, Tywin wouldn’t admit the three kids aren’t Robert’s without a massive war due to all the gold he gave to Robert/loss of Lannister honor, but...Teddy playing Tywin could order questioning of the servants about Cersei/Jaime, publish the results of the servant inquiry to all of Westeros, denounce Cersei’s actions in front of hundreds of lords, and agree to a peace deal with Robert, etc. Lol, stick Tywin in a room in Winterfell to pry out necessary details to replace him and send him back after a few weeks when he can’t really do anything to stop the plan without looking insane. Tywin might be hard to replace by Teddy, but odd behavior could be stress reaction to awful news, he could probably brood in his solar like Ned for days and give out written instructions mostly, Tywin has a cold stare and insults that Teddy could probably fake...And, Robert and Renly know Tywin as a relative/have met him many times so they could give hints on how to act like him (but would that hold up to close Lannister relatives?). Could try imperio on Tywin, but he looks like he could fight that spell. Neutralizing Tywin stops the war dead in its tracks and Cersei, Joff, etc. don’t have power on their own to do anything but boss around a few gold cloaks.

Hermione does go to books first for answers, but that is not working here and the field trip to Valyria might not work out as well. She has the beaded bag with her and if she does not clean it out that often or just keeps adding things to it (based on the messy state of her office in London)...would she have the portrait of Phineas Nigellus Black? If he is stuck in Westeros in her bag/can’t access the British magical world, he might be helpful to escape Westeros just so he can chat with his portrait wizarding friends and not be trapped alone with dark age muggles. Phineas is a “delightful” character from what I’ve seen of Hogwarts Legacy video game where he is the headmaster in the 1890s. As a nineteenth century Black patriarch, he would know British dark arts stuff and rumors that would not be shared with the muggleborn best friend of Harry Potter, the Head Auror.

Personally, I’d think Hermione would avoid Phineas Nigellus Black unless she was desperate because of how insulting he is to muggleborns and she would of course know more than him with her world travels and studies of rare magic, but the number of Valyrian magical texts in Westeros is very low and if this is a dark pureblood British family heirloom/something he might have heard about in gossip at a pureblood party in the 1880s...Why I think he would know something? Pureblood society is small and careful to keep out people with doubtful blood with well-kept lineage charts. If a Valyrian married into the British purebloods after transport by the necklace, there would be questions about blood purity/magical lineage from descendants trying to marry other purebloods even centuries later. So, this wizard or witch pops up with no other relatives/no known family tree in 1600 but insists on being a pureblood sorcerer from another world...You’d get other purebloods digging into this family lineage to see if the great-great-great grandparent was a muggleborn with a zany story trying to rise in pureblood society/his descendants are half-bloods not worthy of the top families or the real deal/should be treated as a foreign pureblood and okay to marry. If the Valyrian married the Selwyns and the Selwyns are still Scared 28, then research was done on the bloodline and gossip spread in pureblood society. So, the Black patriarch in the nineteenth century might know something since he would be obsessed with pureblood family trees/keeping the line pure.

Highgarden is next! I do wonder how the Tyrells will take Lord Stark and Lady Granger arriving so soon from Winterfell. Giant storm petrels are Hermione’s flying transport solution and a way to introduce her magic to Westeros adorably without risk. Children as young as seven can fly on them daily to magic school (Mahoutokoro in Japan) across hundreds of miles of stormy seas. So, the birds must be fast, safe, and able for even a young child with no skill/tendency to fall asleep in the morning to ride safely every day (so Hermione that does not like to fly would pick this way of flying as it is likely the ultra-safe, easy to use, self-driving minivan type of wizarding flying transportation). Storm petrels are often white and grey, Stark colors, and Hermione was wearing Stark colors even in the wizarding world. Andals are okay with giant bird transportation, as seen in the Winged Knight, an Andal cultural hero, and Hermione would have read that myth in chapter one of a history of the Vale/seen flying on bird artwork everywhere in the Eyrie. A giant storm petrel is essentially just a giant bird and it could be naturally occurring/non-magical if you need a low-level of magic introduction to Westeros. And, giant storm petrels seem cute/non-threatening instead of a dragon. And, the Mahoutokoro school robes are golden for the most advanced students and if Hermione got a set of school flying robes to go with the bird for an honorary doctorate...lol. Hermione landing in High Garden in golden robes on a giant storm petrel would be awesome, explaining how Hermione can travel vast distances secretly and quickly, and it’s not that terribly magical. Plus, children as young as seven riding the birds daily to school would make the Starklings/every young boy or girl in Westeros dream of flying on one. And, Renly, Robert, Mace would have to deal with all the bannermen wanting flying birds, as clearly a giant rideable bird is an Andal cultural tradition and sign of nobility to fly.

Guest chapter 10 . 9/1/2022
Hope Ned is not mistaken for a sorcerer/wizard instead of Teddy. So...Teddy gave the Stark household the silver direwolf pin for a glamour disguise/a pin the Stark household will know belongs to Ned/have seen Ned wear frequently. Teddy had it for a couple of days maybe, but Ned probably had it for years. I guess the adorable, naïve Teddy could have magicked the direwolf pin in a few seconds, but it seems more likely that Lord Stark created the magical direwolf pin in a time-consuming ritual/had used its magic in the past to travel disguised in the North? Teddy is on vacation from Hogwarts learning/has not cracked a book since arriving in Westeros unless forced to be Renly and Loras, I bet, and instead focused on sword stuff while Ned is around lots of scrolls/heavy tomes/paperwork as Hand of King. Lol. If I was going to place a bet on who was the wizard in the Stark household...I would definitely go for Ned before Teddy. Plus, Ned is kind of similar to Bloodraven (Hand of the King) and broods alone in his solar doing who know what (like Lord Hightower not leaving his tower for ten years was trying to learn magic). I guess for Jory and Renly the idea of Teddy being a wizard is not that astounding but for everyone that has less interaction with Teddy and Ned/did not see Teddy do lots of magic...I mean, the Portkey could have been done by either Ned or Teddy to those that saw the arrival at Winterfell, the silver direwolf seems to be coming to Ned’s aid with no hint it came from Teddy if the servants spotted its arrival, Teddy was hidden in the crowd/supposedly not around for the windstorm at Baelor's Sept but Ned was so...Lol.

But, it’s not that bad for a Lord to be a sorcerer/wizard in the North? Like, Bloodraven was Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch from 239 until 252 and the Lord Commander is essentially a powerful Northern Lord/charged with keeping wildings out and someone the Northern lords close to the Wall would receive letters from/have contact with a lot? And, Bloodraven had to be elected Lord Commander, so a wizard can get votes in Westeros. Bloodraven probably came to Winterfell several times as Lord Commander? Old Nan and Walder Frey were born around 211 so...early 40s when Bloodraven disappeared. Older Northern lords like Arnolf Karstark and Mors Umber were born in the 230s or 240s so...kids or teenagers when Bloodraven, a man everyone knew was a powerful sorcerer, was Lord Commander? The North Remembers is a thing so...maybe the South has forgotten Bloodraven since he stopped being Hand of the King in the 230s but with Ned giving such strong sorcerous hints/similarities to Bloodraven...well...Lol. I guess his lords might ask him if he was a wizard but...did anyone ask Bloodraven about his powers or beg to be taught magic by Bloodraven? Probably not? Lol. I wonder when Ned will realize everyone thinks he is the wizard.

No map of Valyria? Hehe. Well...Hermione might be saved by House of the Dragon, the new Game of Thrones series coming out in August. Supposedly, the show goes into the Targaryen vision of the Doom and conquering Westeros because of visions of White Walkers. Viserys the First had a giant white model of the city of Valyria the size of a room. So...it looks pretty accurate down to small details and might give Hermione some clues on where a magical library/archive would be? Maybe the Valyrian word for “magic school” or “archive” or “library” was carved of a building in the giant white model? Or, the model has secret compartments that open up to reveal a note about what Hermione and Teddy need to do to save the world?

As for not seeing the Valyria model yet...well, it looks like something Robert would throw into the Red Keep basement along with the dragon skulls because he hates the Targaryens? Or, a random Targ king without visions like Aegon the Unworthy would toss into the basement to have more room for random junk. And, I don’t think after some time people would think it was a real model of Valyria/what Valyria actually looked like instead of ...I dunno, an artist’s fantasy interpretation a hundred years after the fact/vanity item for a Targ king? Or, if it was a real model map of Valyria...who cares, the city was destroyed in the Doom and is worthless? But...that model would be priceless for Hermione. As to how she learns about it...Arya did go exploring in the Red Keep/found the dragon skulls so the Valyria model might be nearby for her to remember? Or, Robert vaguely remembers tossing the ugly white Valyria model in the basement when Hermione pouts about lacking a map?

Yeah, the room size model map of Valyria would make sense to create if you had great prophetic visions, knew Hermione and Teddy would arrive in Westeros to save the world, and would need a way to preserve a map of Valyria for centuries so they could explore Valyria/find lost magical knowledge to get home/bring reinforcements to save the world from Earth.

ArielBormor chapter 1 . 7/19/2022
Greenseer!Ned or wizard!Ned would be interesting and I don’t think I’ve seen it done. He seems powerful on the level of Dumbledore if he can cross worlds unknowingly. Hermione might suppose “of course Ned would know if he was a wizard!” but without a magical institution like Hogwarts to track magic/send a letter informing him as a muggleborn and thinking the soul mate transport thing was not caused by him/not knowing what powerful greenseing could do/thinking greenseers only among Children of the Forest...Children do magic emotionally and Ned missing Hermione/wishing for her strongly might cause child accidental magic greenseeing without him knowing how it happens. Hermione cuts the soul mate cord and Ned has nothing to latch onto to greensee to her anymore and his depression over his losses during the war of family stop his magic like Tonks had issues when she was depressed. Bring Hermione and happiness back into his life though and all that magic that has not had an outlet for decades...Ned might need to go to Hermione’s crash course magic school so he doesn’t cause accidents. And, Hermione might need Ned tutored in magic enough to escape Westeros with greenseeing...but if she lets that slip out/she didn’t come to Westeros to see him but it was an accident...uh oh...

As far as the worry about the reaction to “the Hand of the King is a wizard!”...well, everyone knew Bloodraven was a wizard and he stayed in power for two decades and only got sent to the wall for killing the Blackfyre candidate at the Great Council that elected Aegon the Unlikely. I don’t think Bloodraven openly admitted he was a sorcerer and he had some bad smallfolk press but everyone knew he was, like everyone knows Renly/Loras are in a relationship. Bloodraven does look rather sinister in appearance so that causes the sorcery rumors, but then Ned is a savage Northerner that broods alone in his solar for days at a time and who knows what magical texts he was studying...:-)

As far as Robert’s reaction to a magical Hand of the King Ned and his girlfriend Hermione (like Bloodraven and Sheira Seastar)...well, Jon Arryn likely had the Eyrie’s maester force feed him recent relevant royal history/Blackfyre Rebellion stuff as a future Lord Paramount so...he has to know about Bloodraven at least a little, since he was Hand of the King for decades during major recent history. If he’s forgotten most of his history lessons, he can easily snag a recent history book about the Blackfyre Rebellions and see the maester’s gossipy account of Bloodraven. And, Robert is bored easily/wants to hear interesting things, so he likely paid more attention to the smallfolk rumors of Bloodraven’s magic power and Sheira Seastar’s witchly beauty than boring stuff. So...eh, the royal family rode dragons through a magical bond only like a century or so ago and a few centuries before that was Valyria so...and soul mate magical bonds being real is a thing in Westerosi noble courtship with Jenny of Oldstones/Prince of Dragonflies/broken Baratheon betrothal causing a war and Robert himself has a magical soul mark so...

I guess it’s just how does Robert address the fact that the Hand of the King's girlfriend and possibly Ned are magic users? Which isn’t that surprising based on royal court history but that he didn’t know..I mean, wizard!Ned is a surprise since they grew up together and Hermione’s powers are way beyond a hedge witch/scary in the hand of an enemy. If Ned and Hermione have magic, do others have magic of a similar level and is the realm in danger due to his lack of knowledge? I mean, you’d expect high level royal government like the King to know about magic stuff as threats to the realm, but Ned knows all about it as Hand but Robert doesn’t as King so...Although, Robert didn’t go to small council meetings and left a ton of governing to Jon Arryn, so maybe Jon Arryn knew of magic and handled magical issues but Robert was too “busy” to deal with it and Ned took up the magical governing stuff when Jon left...Lol, it’d be cool if Robert had it in his mind that “huh, I should know about magic things as king but I didn’t want to govern/left it all to Jon Arryn...and Ned knows about magic things as a Hand of the King/Lord Paramount...and my history books were all gossipy about past magic users so...eh, is magic being real something everyone knows like Renly/Loras and I’m just out of the loop due to my laziness...So...how to address this with Ned without embarrassing myself...” Lol, magic being real something Robert should know but doesn't, like a Stormlands tax dispute or something he ignored/left to Ned to deal with and Robert being embarrassed he has to ask Ned the basics. Like, is the diplomat from Lys suddenly going to turn into a cat (like Larra Rogare was rumored to do), sneak into the royal treasury, and steal vital documents something he has to plan around?

And, I think the "everyone knows magic is real and there are tons of magic users around but me" worry might hold true for Renly as well, especially since Stannis has a magic using witch on his island, the grandfather of Loras is trying to learn magic up in his tower, and the smallfolk are always gossiping about magic stuff happening and the history books in Westeros are pretty gossipy/filled with magic users. Lol, I'd love for magic being real to be one of those "I should know this and it's embarrassing that I don't as a king/prince involved in government...Do I admit I don't know something this big of a deal when I probably should...Ned knows all about it so perhaps I should as well...I guess I could ask questions about things I should know already but I don't want to seem a fool like I didn't know swords and horses were real so..."
