Szczyrk chapter 18 . 8/30/2024 Fantastic writing, I cried and it was a but of a trigger for my own PTSD of being a critical care nurse during the pandemic (ive gone to a bunch of therapy about it so I just cried a little and was okay). But also, SQUEALing about the dark lord’s continued correspondence and I cant wait to aee where the story continues! |
Dark-Prince-of-Clowns chapter 4 . 4/12/2024 Fun fact: The style in which the Borrow is buildt (by which I mean haphazardly with a multitude of materials) is apperantly very common in rural Romanian. Incidentally this is because people there are poor as fuck and scavenge materials from anywhere they can find it. Kinda like shantytown meets mud-house. ...not unlike the Weasley's home... I'm suprise Ron's second cousin, mr. "We don't talk about him" is there at all. Ron acted like his family was ashamed of the fact that he was a squib. I don't think they dislike squibs, per se. It's just that it's an embarrassment to have one in the family. Just like muggles are "facinating and clever creatures" (read: animals), and it's "amazing what they can do without magic" (the poor, magic-depraved animals they are, whom has to be taken care of by the superior wizards and stared at like animals in a zoo.) The Weasley's are far more biggotted than they like to believe. And it really shows if you read between the lines. dumbledore is no better. He just changed his apeoach to how those poor , stupid animals should be protected from their own primitive thinking by being ruled over by benevolent wizarding overlords, to those poor animals must be protected from evil wizards because they are so helpless and weak, by gentle manipulations that are more suited for an animal rights activist like good old dumbles. One fanfic I read pointed out that the recipie for Pewter that was still in use back when the wizards went into hiding had an unholy amount of...I think led... in them. If you are efficiently infusing poison into every potion you make for consumption, then the thickness of said bottom matters massivly. Not that Percy would know about the muggle research about led of course. But ot COULD explain the "eccentricity" of many wizards. (I seem to recall that the story behind the saying "mad as a hatter" originally stemmed from a time when led (or something equally toxic) was commonly used in the gpue Hatters used to make the fancy hats. Hours soent inhaling the toxic fumes drove them to hallusinations, paranoia, and various other symptoms of litteral madness.) You'd have to doublecheck the exact consistency of pewter before they passed a law to change that recipe to be sure, but I think it's worth looking into. Although, of course, it IS conjunction. It COULD be as simple as some wizards making the cauldron thickness too thin to save money, or there existing a need to keep a consistent thickness for ALL culdrons -because the heath of the flame must be adjusted based on how thin or thick a cauldron is, and you cannot succeed in even the simplest recipe without that knowledge. It's like the horrible mess I made trying to make a pie in a Romanian gas-stove the first time. The pie requires a certain heath. Gasstoves have no way of telling how hot the oven is. I assume Romanians uses experience and their mother's teachings to get it right. Trying to follow a recipe when you can't predict the heath will set the stove on fire. (Litterally in my case) Or blow up a potion. ) It may sounds boring, but the topic is incredibly important. It's intresting how many characters that were cut in the final drafts, and the things that was changed. I am super-sad Voldie's right-hand man (who sounded a whole lot like Sebastian from Black Butler, and just as hidden-sadistic) Pyrites, was cut. He sounded really interesting -what little we know. (PotterWiki has a small note on him.) Then again, she might have cut him because if Pyrits had been there, and as trusted as he appears, he might have talked some sense in Voldemort so he didn't blindly attack the Potters, and then Rowling wouldn't have a story. Lol If Voldie has still done so, I bet someone who dresses like muggle butler would have no truble tracking down the muggle family of Lilly Evans (as dumbles so often pounts out: Harry's ONLY family, and thus the obvious place to put Harry), and kidnapp him and raise him to worship Voldemort. Which, again, would be a very different story. Lol I also know they changed the island where Hagrid fetched Harry from in book one. I don't remember exactly what it was originally, but it might have been a cabin in the mountains or something. I love your story btw. I look forward to see more and more and more of it! _ |
duj chapter 11 . 3/17/2024 If Anthony kept kosher he wouldn't eat at McDonalds at all. The fish and the chips are cooked in the same oil as the burgers, so they are completely non-kosher. Even the rolls, salads and desserts aren't kosher. Soft drinks are OK, but nothing else there. The only place that has kosher McDonalds is Israel. |
duj chapter 5 . 3/17/2024 I recognised the line, but screwed up my face a bit at Snape using the same line as (villainous) George Wickham. I hope that wasn't intended to be a hint of some kind, because in Wickham's mouth it was quite dishonest. |
duj chapter 4 . 3/17/2024 Green is everywhere we look in the natural world, but historically, it was a very difficult colour to create artificially. The mineral and vegetable green dyes historically available were fugitive (not colourfast) and not strongly coloured. You can see this in early American quilts, where stems and leaves that were green when appliqued are now a dull brown. Would you believe it? The first colourfast green was not invented till 1775. (Scheele's Green, made from arsenite) And it was highly toxic. Which did not at all stop it from being very popular. So what if children wasted away in rooms painted green and ladies grew ill from their green dresses? So what if (we now believe) it killed Napoleon Bonaparte? People thought the risks were worth it to revel in the beautiful shades of green. Yes, really. It was that big a deal. By the end of the 19thC it was replaced with Paris Green, another highly toxic pigment ... which wasn't banned until the 1960s... And even today, some popular green artists' pigments are still quite toxic, examples being Pigment Green 7, Pigment Green 36, and Pigment Green 50. Green was even rarer than purple for Muggles; does that explain why wizards loved the colour so much? |
cdnviolets chapter 15 . 2/13/2024 I am really enjoying this series. I like how Harry is learning about the traditional celebrations. I like how he studies hard. He has his sly side, but isn't selfish. You're developing his character well. The whole iron allergy thing is interesting. I like how Dudley and Draco and others aren't completely unchanging, they're not doormats, but they're evolving. I like the family connection to the Parkinson's too. Very entertaining. |
SunPho3n1x chapter 20 . 11/29/2023 Another great story! Thank you for writing this! |
Soraslove chapter 14 . 6/8/2023 Hopefully, harry doesn't have to go to the malfoys any longer, lol. |
tgcgoddess chapter 2 . 4/2/2023 I feel this was a real turning point in Harry's life. And I noticed, or so i believe, that this was the first time he claimed the Wizarding world as his own... at least as far as the Dursleys are concerned. And I do so love these 'no one tells Harry anything and it blows up in their faces' kind of thing! |
Cullyn the dwarf chapter 6 . 3/5/2023 Marie-Louise, I thought this was a French slang for a Mary-lou/Mary-sue fan fic writers use. A was rolling at the thought of art imitating life, imitating art. So of course it's an actual term. Still have me a good and proper chuckle. |
Ag chapter 4 . 3/2/2023 Great take on squibs position and struggles in wizard's society in chapter 4. |
Ag chapter 2 . 3/1/2023 You painted very accurate portrait of abused and neglected child. Maybe even too accurate, it's very upsetting to read about Harry's struggles. It's good to see him realizing that his family is definately NOT normal |
Ag chapter 1 . 3/1/2023 It's a little weird to review different parts of the fic at once, I planned to stop after every year/part and take my time to write a comment, but this story is so engaging that I found myself unable to simply stop binge reading. And I'm probably not the only one... Poor Harry, adults can be truly ignorant. I really like your take on wizard-genetics, I would speculate its polygenetic trait. But does it mean that unique magical abilities are also encoded in genes? I wonder if Harry will get a change to explore this topic further. I have a soft spot for Dudley from your fic. he also is a victim of abusive household, even if not so obvious one as Harry. The list of Dudley's faws is, well, very long, but he already started to outgrow his parents. I don't expect spoiled rotten young teenager to be mature, compassionate and self-aware person any time soon, but I hope we will get to observe more of his character development in the future |
Steve-Arkarian chapter 11 . 1/12/2023 Harry should also point out that it was not an unprovoked attack on Voldemort's people, Harry only attacked after they had first attacked Sirius. |
Steve-Arkarian chapter 7 . 1/12/2023 You might want to edit your note at the beginning that talks about Sirius having PTSD, to include that Harry also has PTSD. He might not have it as bad, but he does seem to have it with periodic flashbacks. |
