Marksbay chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 Great chapter. What about hogwarts handeling of bullies and petty cruelties? What's Dumbledores defence for that |
plums chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 First, I hope you're keeping in mind that you have five warfronts in this story now for Harry: - The Dark/Voldemort (primary war) - The werewolf uprising (biggest risk to the statute of secrecy falling - feels separate from Voldie) - Dumbledore (pure philosophical war - its potentially over after this chapter if Harry decides to ignore him) - The Goblins (future war that I'm hoping is taken care of along the way and never actually happens) - The muggles (if they just get tired of the wizards crap and decide to expose them) The big "thing" I felt I needed to comment on was the Dumbledore/Harry Debate: That part of the chapter felt like you tried to "force" this confrontation between Harry and Dumbledore and to have it specifically go in a predetermined way. Then you built up the "debate" to support that goal after the fact. The problem is (ignoring the arguments themselves for now and your authors note about it), Dumbledore was able to "win" in this debate in his mind through the fact he was able to front-load his arguments one way while his debate "opponent" was a young person forced to respond philosophically to ambush-debate arguments on the fly against someone who had his attack strategy and arguments pre-planned. Dumbledore obviously did not think of these points on the fly... he may as well have been reading from cue-cards, and pushed and framed the entire debate in a way so that "his way" of thinking is obviously the only and right way because Harry couldn't think at lightning speed to respond. For lack of better description, it gives a really shady edge to the entire "debate" and doesn't portray Dumbledore in a good light at all. Pre-meditation/chess-master antics that served no real purpose. Now for the content of the debate itself, I'm going off your author's note with the assumption that ultimately "Harry realizes Dumbledore is full of shit and we're blatantly losing this war with the current strategy Dumbledore is using, and Dumbledore is in some sort of moral/mental lock preventing him from ever changing his methods." I'm hoping that's what you want us to infer if Dumbledore "drowned cities in blood" against Grindelwald, but current Dumbledore now refuses to even kill one person during the fight against Voldemort. I think the chapter would've been much improved if at some point Harry came to the realization of (even if he didn't articulate it out loud and it was an internal monologue) that: "Well, why is Dumbledore surprised that he all but lost the First War with Voldemort and is now losing this restarted war? He won a different war with one set of tactics... then changed his tactics for another war and is now losing, but can't see that?" Which would then segue into Harry thinking, "Dumbledore is an idiot who killed his enemies once and won, and now thinks he can still win without it even as he's almost completely lost the war." As for Dumbledore's "Goals" in the argument, I can see that your argument from Dumbledore is likely setting the seed in Harry's mind about declining populations. This is obviously a setup for needing people for the as-yet-unknown conflict with the Goblins and needing both sides to join together... ...But these characters don't know that. All Harry likely subconsciously sees is the statute of secrecy falling because of the werewolves, and the Muggle Military being egged on by werewolves is a much bigger threat than "The Dark" and "The Goblins" as your final wizard enemy. I have no idea if this will eventually blow open the Statute in your story, but you can't forget that outcome in your story design even if you never pull the trigger on that potential war route. The werewolf element being so public has to potentially draw in the muggles or there really is no point to even having it there. Ultimately I really hope you resolve one of the warfronts soon... there's just too much going on. I'll also admit I hope the goblin rebellion resolves itself with their own internal fighting/bickering causing war amongst themselves that helps Harry kill Voldemort's side off, all without any intervention at all from Harry. The goblin rebellion was an aspect of this that I honestly don't look forward to. |
mwinter1 chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 Awaiting more |
insanecoop chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 Yep I'm out, can't read any more. Means of communication: mirrors, owls, elves, potronus, floo, enchanted items (the DA coins),flares/ fireworks that break the statue, wand trace, phones , pagers, Means of escape " floo, Appration, portkey, elves, hidden tunnel out of warded home , magical creature, brooms, Phoenix, vanishing cabinet, enchanted items, homemade tank Way of protecting your home: muggle death traps, pit falls concentrated acid, hidden batistas, buried explosives, deadly magical creature, fidlus, machine guns, poison gas (carbon monoxide would do) house elves, compound bow, fiendfire, sprinkler system with flammable liquid, wards, covering trap items in poison/venom, throwing nasty potion, ward that can be removed that were stopping the house becoming a home alone house of horror, fire / blast proof panic room, hidden basement with extra fidlus, tunnel system beneath whole property. Homemade tank Just think, DE turn up in a group of 20, somehow take down the wards but have to spread out, so only have to deal with a couple. Get in the enchanted tank, smash out of hidden area back of the house get to 40ish mph racing across the grounds till outside of anti wards that have been set up, and then take one if the many means of escape in the ridiculous unlikely event you couldn't use them before. All of this is to my point that trying to make any real effort to make 'war' real in a fanfic is a effort in madness, |
HowlnMadHowie chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 Wait! Harry has followers? Last I checked he had friends, not followers like Dumbledore claims. Also I'm surprised Harr y doesn't take the Sword of Gryffindor as part of his combat gear. Especially useful for dealing with Werewolves. Silver they may have built an immunity to but bassilisk venom, I think not. And Harry will never trust Dumbledore fully again given how he screwed up repeatedly in the past. Seems to me Dumbledore is hiding behind excuses rather than a viable defense to why he's wrong. |

Deal With Itt chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 I don't like Dumby. You making him a killer in the War doesn't seem right if Grindelwald went to prison. Maybe Dumby killed him in your story idk. I don't get him maybe it's ptsd or he thinks he's always right like Flitwick said. He always seems passive and he rationalizes whatever position he takes. There's concentration camps wtf he did do nothing about that? Smh dudes irritating. |
Khatix chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 Dumbledore could have ambushed Tom as a student and questioned him under Veritaseriun. Dumbledore could have arranged for the deaths of the DE's in Azkeban before Voldemort broke them out. Dumbledore could have arranged for the Imperioused DE to die over time before Voldemort came back. Dumbledore is too much of a pacifist and if he doesn't want to get his hands dirty then let Moody handle it. |
TigerSwarm9122 chapter 14 . 4/22/2022 Your latest chapter was indeed something to behold as while Harry is indeed naive Dumbledore is not free of fault as he woefully put the boy in an abusive home and refuses to learn from his failures. Yes, he may be human but Dumbledore does act like a god when it comes to playing with the lives of innocents. The one thing that bothers me the most is that he may have anticipated for Harry to be weak-minded. Instead of training the boy and telling him his heritage he stayed quiet and left the boy alone to wallow in despair that's not character building. Its manipulation. Another thing that bothered me is how Dumbledore is such a pacifist as he projects himself as a great leader, though his hands are stained with blood. If he had just put Voldemort down from the start then all this senseless destruction could have been avoided and so many innocents wouldn't have had to die. The death eaters either deserve to die or be locked away in Azkaban that includes the ones who pleaded to be under the imperius curse. Also, another thing I should point out is the order as I neither liked them in the book nor in the movie as they were ineffective as a group and only played defense. Dumbledore's constant preaching about second chances hindered them from exercising justice on a battle field as it's either kill or be killed in the war. That and the old goat's whimsical messages as they leave people with more questions than answers and his followers have paid the price. The bastard needs to be more direct. To take out your enemy you need to hit them where it hurts the most. In all Dumbledore is a self-righteous arrogant piece of shit and his order is nothing more than a group of weaklings who only know how to mess things up. Anyone with eyes could tell that they would have lost. My only questions are: Will you make Harry more powerful and pragmatic in his approach to the war? Will Dumbledore finally learn from his faults? And will you break the death eaters? Give them a taste of their own medicine. |
Guest chapter 13 . 4/6/2022 Remember in the first half of the story Fleur was the second main character? That was a pretty interesting story. Did you lose the thread of your own plot? |
