I think your story The Wild Side is a masterpiece and your writing is incredible, so when I saw this I thought I’d give it a go because I do like Supernatural fics. I see you haven’t updated for a while, and I’m only a little way in, but I did want to leave a review for what I’ve read so far.

As usual, I love the style of your writing. Your characterisations are pitch perfect, honestly. You just really get the show’s characters and depict them so well. It’s just so easy to read your writing, like I can always trust that you’re going to nail a chapter.

I don’t love Kat as a character, but I’m trying to give it some time. Another reviewer commented about this, and I’ve been feeling the same way: that I don’t love the aggression and violence of Kat as a character, particularly in regards to Sam and their budding (or renewing) friendship. I find you really sensitive with all issues re: violence, substance abuse, sexual assault etc. in this and your other stories so the way that this is delivered without much sort of commentary I don’t like. I get that she’s angry and has blamed Sam and that this has been a coping mechanism. And I get that it makes sense for her as a new hunter to have past experience and skills in terms of fitness and self-defense. It also makes sense to some degree because that’s the tone of the show.

But when she’s so angry, irritable, aggressive, violent etc. all the time without us getting to see much else of a personality and then when that’s directed at Sam (and Dean) it’s hard to empathise and find her likeable. She’s very immature and petulant in this. I get that the budding relationships are working to make this stuff recede in her character and it seems like she’s starting to have a fuller life, but there’s been a lot of bad behaviour delivered from the start that makes it a bit hard to be on board with.

I feel like we’re supposed to interpret it and admire it as: she’s a bad ass and can take care of herself. But she’s sort of consistently horrible to her mother, Sam, Dean, Harley and they all keep rolling with it.

Anyway, I’ll keep reading for a bit and see where the story goes.

Well. This was an absolute delight to read. I love Kat’s character growth and the slow burn of her and Dean. Definitelt here for it. I just wanted to let you know this is an amazing work.

I am not a hardcore Supernatural fan - it's not my normal jam unless I'm in the mood to watch it (and then I watch 8 episodes at once and I'm done. Which is probably why I'm still on season 8 :/). But reading your story actually made me enjoy the series. No joke. I really wish the creators had included a character like yours; Kat helped me connect with Supernatural in a way I never did on my own (and it helps that she’s cooler than sliced toast).
Thank you for writing, and I will certainly be reading if you end up writing more. But even if you don't, thanks for giving Supernatural a better meaning to me.
