The explanation you offer as to how Aizen and co. were able to put up more of a fight in this theoretical exercise is that they are captains 'refined by centuries, millennia of fighting with the sword and the magic arts.' Such a simple, logical, 'sensible' theory: more preparationmore effectiveness. A mechanical understanding, which is why one could deduce that you subscribe to the "rationalistic" paradigm even before delving deeper into your other works. However, that whole reality prism depends on the presupposition that 'realityisrational'. If there possibly exist other factors, such as will and the force commanded by it, that Ichigo was able to prevail becomes much more solid as a concept. Food for thought, doubtless.

When I finished the reading of the manga I was left with the sensation that there was no rational explanation for the events. It might have been Kubo's purpose to make his audience get astounded with such a lack of sense or, what is more, with so many possible senses in the end! Because when you discover a power-up such as Yhwh's The Almighty or Aizen's Kyoka Suigetsu, which are known by their illusional abilities to modify perception, you get to understand that there is nothing plain certain in that world indeed, everything can be a trick, a lie, and that feeling surpasses human knowledge... in the empirical experience. Then what is left to believe? How far can we trust our senses and even our ration? I tend to think that Aizen's role is to question that kind o statements somehow, and that is the part of Bleach story that we will never be able to fully attain :( just because the magnitude of the topic.

Hah, reminds me of a Naruto one-shot where the entire series turned out to be a genjutsu demonstration cast by Iruka on a young Academy Naruto. XD Though I suppose a better analogy would be canon with Kaguya winning and the Infinite Tsukyomi making everyone think they had defeated her... A better fate than Boruto I suppose. :P
