Reviews for Harry Potter and the Ticket Backwards
alix33 chapter 10 . 5/17/2022
You meant "eating a latish breakfast", "based on what we learn", "Harry could subtly warn them away", "may have lead to Quirrell successfully stealing", "ferried out of the house", "
AW! at the mental pic I had of Neville's reaction to Hagrid telling him he (Neville) looks just like Alice Longbottom. AW! at Neville ahving learnt his mom was very good at Charms.
I went to uni/college and studied Library and Information Science for my undergraduate degree. After working as a sales assistant in a bookshop for 13 months I worked as a newspaper archivist/librarian for longer than six years. Thus I was overjoyed to learn that there were things such as "cataloguing and indexing support spells" that could be and were used in the Hogwarts Library.
"push-ups" in "do push-ups" should be hyphenated.
I am very disappointed that there really are no books on occlumency and legilimency in the Hogwarts Library. But at least Harry now knows, courtesy of Percy Weasley, of the supplementary collection and is farily proficient at the cataloguing and indexing charms.
alix33 chapter 9 . 5/16/2022
Yay! at the prospect of Neville getting help with his lack of confidence (something I can empathise with hugely at the moment) from Harry.
You meant that Harry was "poring through his own private texts" at times when he was not doing homework with his year mates.
You meant for Hermione to say "every bit as good as Malfoy's".
alix33 chapter 8 . 5/16/2022
IMO Trevor the sullen and always fleeing toad needs to buck up his ideas totally about Neville.
AW! Poor lonely, intimidated and probably scared out of his little 11-year-old mind Neville.
alix33 chapter 7 . 5/16/2022
Bless Tom the publican of the Leaky Cauldron for keeping Harry's real identity secret.
You meant "Harry double- and triple-checked" and "gaggle of redheads".
I am hugely chuffed that Harry decided to befriend Neville after all.
I am not sure how to feel about how Harry dealt with meeting Draco Malfoy and Crabbe and Goyle for the first time.
alix33 chapter 6 . 5/15/2022
You meant for Petunia Dursley to say "Your parents' school" and "teacups into rodents".
You meant for Harry to say "my parents' old friends".
You meant Petunia cleaned "Dudley's plates left over".
alix33 chapter 5 . 5/15/2022
You meant for Harry to think "looked straight past him".
You meant "stood a single piece of dark leather luggage" and "pored over the practical spellwork books".
The mental pic I just got of the dreaming puppy trunk made me laugh.
"double-checking" should be hyphenated.
"never mind" should be two separate words.
alix33 chapter 4 . 5/15/2022
I was super chuffed at the bit where Harry accio-ed stationery that Dudley would not even miss to his cupboard and now his plans and self-study could at least happen on paper and with nonmagical pens and pencils and not against the back wall of his cupboard with half a wax crayon.
I was also chuffed at Harry being able to conjure his patronus Prongs.
alix33 chapter 3 . 5/15/2022
AW! I hope with every fibre of my being that it was Hermione that bought the snowy owl we know from Harry's former life as Hedwig.
Harry could do loads of good with his new wand in the four weeks that there is not trace on it...
You meant for the shopkeeper in Wiseacre's to say "secrets of the heavens" without the apostrophe between the n and the s of heavens.
"heart rate" should be two separate words.
The alliteration in "good grace of a grumpy goblin" made me smile.
Thank you, Mrs. Figg!
I wish Dudley and his horse-faced mother would go and get knotted, both of them.
alix33 chapter 2 . 5/15/2022
You meant for Dumbles, in chapter 1, to say "my guesses have, usually, been good".
"Dursleys" in "return to the Dursleys" doesn't or didn't need an apostrophe, as pluralizzation of surnames in English does not happen by adding an apostrophe and s. It happens that way for surnames according to certainstrict rules in my mother tongue, afrikaans, so it always amuses me when first language level users of English pluralize surnames that way.
I wish Hary could have got a nonmagical notebook and a pen for his planning (that he did on the wall of the cupboard beneath the stairs with half a crayon) from Mrs. Figg.
Yay! for Harry hiding his Hogwarts letter under his clothes.
Harry was "poring over" his Hogwarts letter in detail.
Harry "took off his glasses".
"archway" should be one word. As should "timepiece".
You meant for Harry to say "my parents' death" (since both of Harry's parents died, not just the one. "parent's death", the way you wrote it orignally, implies only one of Harry's parents died).
You meant "queue back in the bank".
sci-fi-rocks chapter 6 . 5/8/2022
State school is free in the UK, Stonewall High was just the local comprehensive so there are no fees.
K chapter 16 . 5/2/2022
A very enjoyable and nicely crafted variation on the canon.
venus4279 chapter 16 . 4/29/2022
So this was really great- and as much as I love these types of stories, I can’t believe I had never read yours. I saw it recommended in a Reddit thread, and it sounded excellent, so I decided to give it a go. This is a quite refreshing take on the trope, which I will admit I found somewhat frustrating at times, especially at first! But the slow and thorough build definitely paid off in the end. There were little touches of detail (like the fact that he crossed the tracks to catch the train going the other way at the beginning of the story and the small ripples, like not getting Hedwig :() that really stood out. I must admit I was a bit confused by the fact that he had to have his wand sent to him (I clearly missed something as I read along)- but you did such a wonderful job of getting the readers to feel all the frustrations and trials and confusion Harry experiences. You didn’t go for the obvious or the deus ex machina at every turn…Harry made the slog, he earned it, every step of the way. So, great job, you should be super proud! And you deserve way more reviews. Can’t wait for the next year!
TsukuyoGintoki chapter 16 . 4/27/2022
I enjoyed this book. I'm going to second year now.
Greg chapter 15 . 4/2/2022
I am really confused. He doesn't seem to have done much of anything. He didn't do anything about the basilisk. He didn't get rid of any of the Horcruxes, even the diadem which he had easy access to. He didn't grab Peter and try to get Sirius out of Azkaban. He did nothing all year except act like a normal 11 year old! He's an idiot; or the writer is. The time travel in this story was completely wasted.
mumphie chapter 16 . 3/27/2022
I quite enjoyed your story. I will look for the Best Laid Plans!
