Review for chapter 155 part 7

Corban’s POV.
Corban, Valeriya and Pavel made a deal – Yaxley will help them to get licenses for import/export with Magical Britain, and they… well Valeriya will have fun with Corban in his bed. She’s only eighteen and already implements such tactics. Very similar to Triumvirate girls, but Clara, Samantha and Carey didn’t actually slept with anyone – as far as we know – to get what they wanted. Only used their sexuality to seduce ad tease. Hell, Samantha even come to Ron to avoid that kind of “patronage” from Corban.

Yaxley’s unique brand of “nobility” is hilarious! “Oh, my sick wife can’t have sex with me? I’ll help her fulfill her marital duty by having sex on a side! And I will ONLY have sex with this young girl, barely older than my daughter, after I help her!”

Valeriya explained her relationships with Pavel, and assured Corban that he’s as pathetic as he let out to be. I’m still not convinced, though. Maybe she just deceives Corban, or maybe Pavel deceives them both.

There is also one more evidence that Russian Five are incredibly powerful and dangerous. Not only Volkov murdered his wife and child without any punishment, Lady Agapov killed Valeriya’s and Pavel’s fathers and get away with it too. And most likely it was not during the time of the First War when atrocities were happening everywhere.

Also, it’s interesting that Corban has a reputation of actually helping and elevating other Pure-Bloods. Say what you want, but man has convictions as awful as they are.

Arcturus Carrow visited the Gala. We haven’t seen him since American Aurors apprehended Ron and Lord Greengrass in States. I have to admit, he’s an impressive liar and actor as he was able to deceive Corban and convince him in his loyalty to Voldemort’s cause. He even manipulated Corban to make him apologize and promise to pit a good word on his behalf to the Dark Lord. It’s even more impressive that he was not exposed by Voldemort himself, though he never used Legilimency on him yet. I don’t believe that Arcturus could have hide his thoughts and deceive the Dark Lord like Snape could. Even Dumbledore admitted he couldn’t resist Voldemort’s Legilimency.

Arcturus’ has a hard time with his businesses – everyone seems to be distancing themselves from him, because of infamous Carrow party. I don’t care much for Arcturus himself, but his daughters may suffer for it too in the future

Arcturus knows a lot about what is happening within Magical Russia. He claims that he has his spies there, and I’m wondering are these HIS spies, or American spies, and he just has an access to their information?

It was interesting to see Corban and Arcturus exchange their notes on situation at Magical Russia. Cobran was informed that Lord Volkov kidnapped Samara’s son to control her, and Arcturus learned that Loyalists are already securing allegiances from Russian Pure-Bloods, including Volkov. Apparently, Volkov kidnapped the boy before he was informed of Voldemort’s return. Otherwise moving against his puppet Minister would have been unwise of him.

More information from Arcturus on Samara’s closest advisors from the Ministry. The head of DMLE is Yaroslov Kalashnik, and he was friends with Samara’s father. Considered that Voldemort was esteemed guest at Samara’s house and took a part in her upbringing, and the fact that Dumbledore considered Luka to be de facto leader of Magical Russia resistance to Voldemort, it could be concluded that Kalashnik is a potential Dark Lord supporter. Now, I wonder when he and Luka confront each other, what side the Aurors will take? Luka’s Mrakogubci will obviously side with Yahontov, but they are his personal squad. How the other, regular Aurors feel about both men?

Kseniya Chaban is the head of International Department and she apparently more idealistic one, sincerely loyal to her Ministry and Russian people. By the sound of it, she greatly reminds Amelia Bones, and it seems unlikely that she would side with Voldemort when he reveal himself.

Konstantin Rasputin. Seriously? Rasputin? Oh, well. In Fate, turns out Rasputin is a Pure-Blood family, and the historical one was a wizard who tried to con Muggles. And interesting way to turn it. I actually like Konstantin’s idea to work more closely with Muggle Ministry! Amelia and British Ministry should adopt this idea as well! In the original, Ministry for Magic mostly ignored Muggle Ministry of Britain only informing the Prime Minister of a few most important events. I would say, Ministry should create an entire new Department of Muggle Cooperation! I bet, Arthur would be delighted to work there! Wizards has a lot to learn from Muggles and has a lot that they can help Muggles with, secretly using magic.

Okay, the explanation why Samara is Ivanov and not Ivanova is not good. It’s not a “tradition” to add “a” at the end, it’s a language. It simplify it, calling Samara – Ivanov, is like addressing Minerva as Mister Mcgonagall.

Samara give away way too obviously that she’s not enthusiastic about serving Voldemort anymore. In all honesty, I understand Yaxley’s disappointment. For someone to raise to her level, presumably on her own merit and don’t be a puppet of Pure-Bloods (until the kidnapping of her son), it’s reasonable to expect someone more impressive. More in control, like Arcturus said. Voldemort noticed that she lost her edge to, and attributed it to the birth of her son.

Speaking of whom, there are new candidates for his potential father: Russian Muggle Minster and Konstantin Rasputin. I would lean more to Muggle Minster. There is no particular reason why she and Konstantin could not make things official, him being Pure-Blood Lord. If it’s Muggle Minster, that would explain why Samara mellow out of Blood-Supremacist views, and why she keep the identity of a father hidden.

Dumbledore’s POV.
Mila Dolohov acted like a bitch to Dumbledore. I bet she would not be so bold, if there wasn’t so many witnesses. And Albus wouldn’t be so restrained either. He did good holding back his anger, just as Ron did. This Gala certainly tested the limit of his patience.

Dumbledore’s new attempt to reach out to Samara failed again. Well, it was expected. Even in the best of times, it was unlikely for her to change sides. Now, when he son is kidnapped and held hostage, it certainly won’t happen.

I like how Dumbledore pointed out that Samara knows, that Voldemort do not genuinely care for her, and all of his kindness in her childhood was to groom and manipulate her. I also like that we exposed to Voldemort’s manipulations more. Before his fall, he was much more charming and subtle in his manipulations, winning friends and allies, earning their sincere loyalty. Now he acts more bluntly – he just abuses his reputation to intimidate his subjects into submission. Not so elegant as before.

I’m more with Ron than with Dumbledore on the subject of Samara. Even if she doesn’t like to follow Voldemort, she’s still following him. And she rejected all the chances Dumbledore gave to her to change sides. It’s sad, that she ended in this situation, but there is no need to walk extra mile and risk lives on her behalf. They need to get her son in safety and let her deal with the consequences of her choices.

Ron’s POV.
Ron and Dumbledore banter is always a delight to read. Albus is always tries to be mischievous, but other people are hold him in such high regard, they are baffled by his behavior and don’t engage in it. Only Ron seems to play this game with him.

Grigorov sends Ron dine in the kitchen with Elves, because “they have no place”. I like how Dumbledore almost lost his patience here and started to threaten violence for such insolence. One thing that this Gala certainly achieved is getting Dumbledore angry enough with the Pure-Bloods.

And once again, Ron had to hold him back from lashing out. Things are seriously wrong, if Ron is more level-headed one between the two of them.

All of this was a ploy conjured by Pure-Bloods to get Ron into the kitchen and let him see a murdered and hanged Elf Tabby. This was sick and vile. And it’s turns out Tabby was murdered for wanting freedom. Judging by poor state all of Grueva’s Elves are they were constantly abused and starved. Tabby was treated so badly it overcome his inborn desire to serve and tried to get himself free. What terrified me more is hat other Elves don’t seem to care. They are so indoctrinated, they believe Tabby got what he deserved! This was shocking scene! Fate don’t shy away from brining the rawest emotions from such scenes.

Aside from the tragedy of taken innocent life, this act of atrocity is also broke what left of Ron’s resolve to be a kinder person and unleashed all of his restrained rage. He even switched to his Champion persona. And at times like this, I’m rooting for Ron to get his way. Though, as angry as he was at the moment, and as much as he fantasized about killing of all the degenerates at the Gala, I’m afraid he wouldn’t be able to, even if he tried. I mean, he could have killed many of them, especially if he threw Baubillious as an opening attack without warning. His Lumos Solem also is very fast, powerful and can easily cover a wide space, taking out even more people. Basilisk skin suit would have protected him of many incoming Curses and he could have throw several Killing Curses of his own… but eventually he would be overwhelmed by their numbers.

Even as enraged as he was, Champion still has restrain to not unleash his anger and tried to leave with Dumbledore. Moody didn’t deserved to be punched by Cutis Terra enhanced Ron, but I felt and odd satisfaction at it. After all insult and humiliation Ron endured at this Gala he deserved o put fear of death into these Pure-Bloods. Moody also would know better from now on then to get into Ron’s face so arrogantly as if he has a right to do it.

I liked how much he scared Grueva – she didn’t even dared to contradict him when he challenged her.

Moody is going to be a problem, when he wake up. Scrimgeour has been digging after Ron with far less motivation than Alastor has right now. Now it’s personal for him. In a way, it’s similar situation as it was with Harry in second year. I’m afraid Dumbledore will have to show Alastor golden memory for him to back off, as Ron predicted. That would save a lot of headache for all three of them.

The Gala turns out completely unexpected. It was a gut punch to learn that majority of Eastern Europe countries are even more “Pure” then even Magical Britain, which was already in claws of Pure-Bloods. The amount of work that has to be done to fix this all is immeasurable! MACUSA and their brutal Aurors are starting to look almost like decent guys compare to corrupt Eastern Europe Ministries, ruled by degenerate Pure-Bloods.

In hindsight, the Gala was ought to be a disaster. I mean, Ron basically charged there without a plan or clear goal. He and Dumbledore didn’t properly prepared. They were reckless. And Tabby paid the price.

After the events of this Gala, I’m sure Ron would whole-heartedly support Hermione’s SPEW. He may talk some sense in her, that most Elves are eager to serve by nature, and taking it from them would only hurt them, but he can help her to start making the laws protecting Elves’ rights.

The whole chapter made me infuriated about this Pure-Blood shit. When it was showed in previous chapters it was either amusing or mildly annoying at best. Mostly because of the small concentration of it. This entire chapter was committed to Pure-blood society and how vile and disgusting it is. It served it’s purpose well and showed how ugly the real Magical World and how is responsible for that. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next!

Review for chapter 155 part 6

Corban’s POV.
Yaxley done well creating an alliance of the most powerful Lords of Nagical Britain, Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania. We already knew that Volkov, Rask and Kartal were the most powerful men in their countries. And now we learned that Hatmanu is the most powerful Lord in Romania. And while Yaxley is not so powerful in Britain as his counterparts, he represents British Blood-Supremacists. Interestingly, that Lady Grueva was not invited at the meeting, despite being the most powerful Pure-Bloods in Bulgaria. Was it on account of her being a woman?

Their interaction was one of the most interesting in the chapter! Rask was trying to sway others under his leadership with charisma and passionate speech, but was cut half-way through by Volkov. This guy is a complete opposite – no charm or pleasantries, just intimidation and coldness.

Now, according to Yaxley, Volkov is much more powerful than Rask. Though, it was not confirmed in the discussion further, I have an impression he was more powerful than all other Lords as well. By the information that was presented I would rank them in this Order:
1. Volkov
2. Rask
3. Kartal

Too little information on Hatmanu to rank him anywhere; Grueva is in vulnerable position now, despite her power; and Yaxley’s power in Britain is very shaky as of now. So it would be hard to reliably rank them.

Collectively they agreed to hunt down Butchers of Birmingham, and choose Lord Sokolov for it. Oh, can’t wait for their meeting!

Not only that, but they also agreed to make their respective Ministries to denounce the Butchers, which once again confirmed that Pure-Bloods are actually in control of their countries. That paints a very grim picture, I would say. Until now, we only saw that Pure-Bloods are only fully in control of Russia, and mostly in control in Britain, but now it was made clear that majority of Magical Europe is controlled by them. Though, it seems like French is controlled by Veelas, which are not welcome in Pure-Blood society.

Despite Rask’s best efforts to put himself as a leader, Volkov clearly had the control of the conversation and had the last word in decision-making. He also swayed on his side Kartal and Hatmanu. That power-play was entertaining.

It was so funny how Yaxley was internally butthurt that no one calls him Lord Yaxley, but others called Russian – Lord Volkov.

Damn, if Yaxley to be believed, Volkov fed his own wife to his Manticore for birthing a squib. And he killed the child too! Horrible! Such cruelty is… damn, I can’t put it into words. Also. how exactly he learned that his child is a squib at such a young age? I mean, usually it takes some time to reveal such thing.

In their private talk, Volkov revealed to Corban that he’s aware of Voldemort’s return and already swore his allegiance. That fact actually gives him a lot of advantages over other Lords, such as Rask, Because he has bigger picture in mind, he can make more adequate decisions. He already know that war is coming, while Rask is playing at Pure-Blood policy power-grab. He wants to lead the alliance that Yaxley is forming, while Yaxley is hoping gift this alliance to the Dark Lord and hoping to manage it in his name. And Volkov saw through it all, because of his knowledge. And he made Yaxley responsible to bring Russian Pure-Bloods in general and him – Volkov – in particular into Voldemort’s grace along with British Pure-Bloods. Yaxley maybe the one to spearheaded the formation of this international pure-blood alliance, but Volkov was the one to get what he wanted from the first meeting.

Introduction of Valeriya Drozdova and Pavel Gusev. Both are minor nobles from Russia. They are an odd pair, and I agree with Yaxley in my astonishment why Valeriya involve herself with Pavel? By all evidence she has the character, the brains and the beauty, while Pavel has non, an look and act extremely meek. Well, Neville too was extremely meek, but he is a kid, and we know he’s going to change. Pavel is already a man, but still act like this. And he also doesn’t even has much money and influence to compensate for his lack of personal qualities. I have an idea that his behavior is all an act, and in actuality he’s much more capable, smart and strong-willed then he make it look to be, and he made Valeriya a front of their little alliance, while he’s masterminding from the shadows.

Ron’s POV.
Met turns out not so happy and positive as she appears to be. Her mother was so devastated by the death of her father, she made Met the center of her life. She’s a helicopter parent that almost choke her child with her love, no seeing that it hurts Met more then it helps. Now, consider how badly women are treated in Magical Turkey such overprotectiveness is almost reasonable. Also, Met’s mother may know more about her husband’s death, and it might be possible he was killed. Maybe even by Mehmet Kartal. It was said he stole the lands from other Sehzade. Met’s father could have been one of them. Still, limiting Met’s freedom to such extend is doing more harm then good, however her intentions were. Golden cage is still a cage. She even

Met also turns out into an arranged marriage situation, and her fiancé is eight years old! Another of her mother’s plans of how to “protect” Met. Well, hopefully the wedding is not planed to happen until Eldar is of age. Which means it’s earliest to happen in 9 years. By this time, I hope Ron will have enough influence to change things on global scale, and maybe bring down Sehzade and let the reformers improve the country, and make Met free of her “duties”.

Ron is not Pomfrey, but he gave Met a very good support in their private talk, and made her realize that her… decision… was not right and she should never give up hope.

Encounter with Leon Rask and the gang of his fans. This is the first time we actually see his character and he’s a prick. I mean, previously we only saw him being a strict prefect, him approving f Millie’s fitness and him being angry at Millie for refusing to kill a rabbit on Kemppainen’s orders. Not too much to draw conclusions.

Rask in this scene greatly resemble Draco in the first and second year. Just as arrogant and confrontational, looking down on everyone, walking with a gang of fans that look at his mouth… And of course he can’t help himself, he started a confrontation with Ron. He is exactly like Draco, but more prone to physical violence. Because he’s much better martially trained, being professional duelist. Draco was more cowardly then that. Basically, Leon is first year Draco with more courage and martial training.

With all of Rask accomplishments and accolades, he too was eclipsed by Ron’s fame and feels jealous! They are not even in the same school! Only shows how great Ron’s influence is on international level, if he is being envied by students from foreign schools. That’s also probably points out at Rask’s insecurity as he’s trying to measure up to Ron.

If I understood it correctly, Leon was competing in the actual adult National Dueling League, and even ended at the top of his bracket. Which mans he defeated several adult professional duelists. That’s actually impressive. He might be the second strongest student, in terms of dueling, in the world, beside Ron himself, of course. I wonder who was his trainer? It can’t be that he become this good just on his own, so I think just as Sebastian hired Madam Roberts for Ron, Conrad Rask hired a great dueling instructor to Leon. Could it be that he was privately trained by Kemppainen?

For all of Rask’s prowess he certainly is not ready to face Ron in combat, and he was incredibly lucky Sanguini showed up and break fight before it’s even started. Ron once against showed miracles of self-control and didn’t react to Rask’s provocations, skillfully outwitting him in a conversation. Damn, I almost feel bad for Leon, Ron was just way ahead of him at everything.

This Cel-Tradat guy is also a prick. And maybe even more so then Rask. While Rask was at least “tried” to be civil, Cel-Tradat was instigating the fight from the start and escalated it at every point. And he’s also a coward, who was hiding behind Leon’s back. He reminds me of Peter Pettigrew, but again with more guts.

I’m a little concerned with Ron’s promise to take on of Leon’s eyes. Because Ron is that unhinged he can and would actually do it. A very disturbing development on his part. Ron becomes more and more extreme. He restrained himself this time, but how knows what happens next one?

Ron and Sanguini private talk. The vampire confirmed that Ron’s smell to his vampire’s senses is vastly different from that of any human. This is not good, it makes Ron way to distinguishable for any vampire he may encounter. Gaspard is already into him, and any other vampire Ron will meet in the future is going to be suspicious of him, because of the smell alone. Ron probably should start to train more in stealth magic. And maybe try to find a way to hide or mask his scent from the vampires. It’s unlikely to work on Gaspard, but may work on other vampires. Not to mention that stealth magic would greatly help him to infiltrate Death Eaters bases in the future.

Ron put a tremendous feat at Sanguini with his answers. The vampire asked for it himself, bu7t Ron could have been less of prick about it. Also, wonder what Sanguini will do with this information? He’s heading to Rome, and I suspect he’s going to share what he learned with Cardinals. Whatthey are going to do with this information? If only we know a little more about them and their organization.

Amelia’s POV.
Amelia’s plan to secure help from other Ministers had failed. She clearly saw that they are not interested at helping Magical Britain, and are outright serve their country’s Pure-Bloods. Consider the financial situation British Ministry is in right now, no wonder Amelia is desperate. There is no way left for her to fix things, without giving power and opportunity to either Ron’s Alliance or American Aurors. We can freely assume she won’t be allying herself with Yaxley’s Alliance.

Sanguini’s retreat sparked Amelia’s interest and she went to investigate. She has some sensing skills too, but I would imagine not very advanced. She spends a lot of time at her desk, instead of practicing magic. She’s a powerful witch, but not extremely powerful. Still, with the regular sensing she didn’t felt anything abnormal in Ron, like Sanguini did. That’s good – it would be too inconvenient to Ron, if his Magical signature gave out suspicious vibes.

The talk between Ron and Amelia was brilliant! Just brilliant! Ron gave the Minister a good eye-opening speech about Ministry’s situation in general and her own position in particular. The whole dialog was so excellently written I can’t even find words to comment it! That was probably the very best part of the chapter! All the arguments and counter-arguments, the style, the drama – everything was perfect! An icing on the cake was the fact we saw it from Amelia’s POV and witness her thoughts, which portray Ron in a very mysterious light.

Few things have concerned me, though. Ron sees no value in his own Alliance, and is planning to get rid of it. What? Where is this come from? This part was not cooked earlier and come of nowhere. Previous chapter showed that his alliance are less noble than they make themselves seem to be, with some of them more self-serving them others, but it was not portrayed so drastic. And to use his Alliance and throw them away like this? That does not sit well with me. Not only it can be seen as a betrayal, but it would create a divide between them. And it can’t be afforded in times like this, with Second Wizarding War coming. Not to mention, it would be bad to Ron’s reputation – if people know that he had abandoned his allies, they would be reluctant to trust him in the future. The changes has to be made, of course, but the way Ron is approaching it, is not the best one.

Ron not so subtly was pushing Amelia to take Harper’s offer. Too bad he can’t reassure her that Americans won’t do anything to take advantage of Magical Britain, thanks to him. Or at least not take advantage that would hurt Magical Britain.

Review for chapter 155 part 5

Ron’s POV.
That Denis Sokolov reminds me greatly of Victor Burke. They behave awfully similar. The difference is that Victor’s family was poor and already fell from grace in Pure-Blood society, when he was born. Sokolov on the other hand was born in one of the wealthiest families in Russia. Victor was trying to build is power, through cunning, Sokolov already had it from the start. He’s still cunning in his own right, though. The way, he behaves, the way he acts, all of that indicates that American Aurors’ suspicions of his crimes are true. Yet, even they don’t have elegit proofs of that. So he’s smart and cunning enough to cover his tracks THAT well. And that makes him very dangerous, but his arrogance also makes him vulnerable. Victor also underestimated Ron and looked down on him, and how is that ended?

The slap infuriate me to no end! That bastard! Oh, how I wanted Ron to give him a return slam. Enhanced by Cutis Terra, that would make Sokolov spit his teeth! Ron’s self-control was amazing in this situation! Even Dumbledore was enraged by the act, and wanted to confront Sokolov personally! Dude, you’ve done something really bad, if Dumbledore is losing his temper on you. Retaliating at Sokolov at the Gala would have been counter-productive, but I can’t wait Ron and him cross their paths somewhere and sometime in the future. I bet, Denis won’t be so full of himself then! I’m still against senseless murder, that Ron wants on all of these Pure-Bloods, but I would not mind. If Sokolov get himself onto Voldemort’s bad side and experience his wrath.

A little but disappointed that Ron didn’t dodge that slap. I hope in the future Ron will be more alert and ready. Gaspard, for example, dodged Rodolphus’ point blank Killing Curse when they first meet.

Dumbledore’s POV.
The Pure-Blood guests are so disgusted by Ron’s presence that they are plotting to humiliate him at this Gala. Or worse. And the freaking Bulgarian Minister for Magic is spearheading this idea! This is so pathetic for so many adult people to target a single teenager.

I liked Dumbledore’s self-reflection, and his realization that he hadn’t done enough. Albus’ position can be understood – he was afraid that power corrupt him, and in some sense he did tried to minimize the influence of Pure-Bloods by occupying high-ranked positions without exercising his authority.

I’m also glad that Dumbledore is adamant in his support of Ron and is going to do anything to save him. Albus, of course, can’t help himself but plan how to manipulate Ron to be less ruthless and violent. Well, I can’t help it, but agree – Ron needs Dumbledore’s benevolence and nobility to balance out RavenclawRon’s ruthlessness.

I enjoyed how Dumbledore dismissed Yaxley like he was nothing. It’s good to knock down his arrogance time to time.

Slughorn turns out to be much more insightful then he let’s out to be and noticed that Ron dislikes him, even if Weasley himself acted entirely polite. As much as Horace is clueless, even he noticed. Funny how Dumbledore was trying to make Horace to talk more with Ron, hoping that it will sooth Ron’s suspicions of his old friend.

Slughorn’s account on Sanguini was very interesting as it gives some lore on Vampires in general. So apparently, Sanguini only drinks animal blood, like pigs and goats. Or at least he was doing it, while travelling with Horace. Also, drinking animal blood makes him weak and frail. And while animal blood helps him to sustain himself, Sanguini still feels strong thirst for human blood. If all of this is true, then Sanguini earned a lot of my respect! It must be horrible to bear such Curse, and always restrain himself from acting on his instincts. In many ways, he reminds me of werewolf tribes that choose isolation from the world to not cause harm. Though, Sanguini deals a little bit better than them. Also, Sanguini exemplifies rejection of “you are your nature” philosophy of High Mother. By nature Sanguini must hunt and drink human blood, but he choose not to, despite how it tortures him.

Now, we know that Vampires could survive on animal blood, I wonder how would they react to frozen donor blood of humans in muggle hospitals? I mean, does they have to drink warm blood, sucking it right out of a living human to be satisfied, or is donor blood will do just as good? If the later, then Ron or the Ministry could make a program that would help British Vampires to deal with their problem. With the help of Muggle government, organize several points of donor blood collection in big Muggle cities, and then hand it out to Vampires. Like a Wolfsbane potion to werewolves. That would be a huge step in helping the vampires, and decreasing the level of vampire crimes. Maybe Ron cam set Percy on doing it, and help him in some ways from the shadows.

Sanguini plans to part ways with Slughorn and go back to Italy, to Rome. Now, this is curious, because we know that Vatican City is secretly controlled by the Vampires – Cardinals. Could Sanguini be one of them? Cardinals are seems to be pacifistic – or at least less violent than Gaspard, as they disapproved on him waging war in Britain. Still, they only have made a token effort of stopping him. If they wanted too, they could have warned Dumbledore about the upcoming trap or about the fact that Blood Lord is still alive.

Slughorn once again showed his bigotry, as he expected Sanguini to be “more exciting”, which translates to him acting like a blood-sucking monster similar to Gaspard.

Horace decision to move back to London opens new plot opportunities in near future. For example, when Remus will leave his job as DADA teacher due to the Curse, Albus may put Snape as the new DADA professor and come to convince Horace to teach potion-making again. He has even more case this time then in canon – Harry Potter AND Ron Weasley! Two of the global celebrities!

Vizier Ulusoy turns out to be in a league with princes of Turkey. She is a childhood friend of the most powerful Bey – Mehmet Kartal, and was installed into her position to appease the masses. That was disappointing. Also, princes were very cunning and skilled to keep this fact from public knowledge. Even Dumbledore didn’t suspected anything.

Now, I have to say, Slughorn is a very crafty guy – he certainly a master of having connections and knowing people. He is a buddy of Dumbledore, dines with Madame Maxime, friend of Grueva and even on such a good terms with princes of Turkey he was allowed into one of their most guarded secrets. All the while living his best life. Horace would have been immensely valuable to the Order, if he ever committed to it and had courage to fight.

Ron’s POV.
Meeting Mehtap Mataraci. Or just Met, for these of us who are bad in foreign languages. Like Ron. Thanks God for his small miracles!

Met is a very sweet girl. Feels very similar to Daphne and Astoria. More proper and polite then Astoria, more mischievous and easy-going then Daphne. Nice to see her connecting with Ron on her own, because Weasley was not going to interact with other kids. He already judged them as mouthpieces of their parents, and just as bad as his own friends before their character development. He most likely right, but he forgets that his own friends made a move to connect with him once. And they did change under his influence to be better people, all of them! This Gala is of course not the place to try this at foreign Pure-Blood kids, and Ron does not have it in him to do it anymore.

Met has a very positive influence on Ron, he was genuinely pleased to talk with her, it o\lighten his mood. He definitely need this, especially after meeting Sokolov.

Okay, I become a little bit lost in all of Turkey titles. So Bey is a Lord, and Begun is a Lady. And Sehzade are princes of blood imperial. Horace called Mehmet Kartal both a Bey and Sehzade. So all of Turkey Beys are Sehzade? Or only some of Beys are Sehzade, and others are not? Also, Met called herself a Begum, a Lady, and her family is one of the most renowned in Turkey. So is she or her mother are the head of her family right now? Her father has died and she has no brothers, but in Turkey women are stripped off of power so… who’s in charge?

Met also is home-schooled, the first one we’ve seen in Fate. Not sure it’s a very good idea, especially because she has not tutors, except her mother. How good education like that can be? There is also a socialization problem – kids need to interact with kids of their age to develop properly. That often happens in schools. And where are Turkey kids are going to study? In Rowling’s lore there were no mention of Turkey’s Magical Schools.

Funny how Met is not impressed with Dumbledore – the greatest wizard ever – and just annoyed at his interruption. Such a drastic contrast to British children. All of them, even from Pure-Blood families are impressed and awed by Dumbledore.

Ron was unsurprisingly displeased at the news that Vizier Ulusoy is compromised and just another puppet of Pure-Bloods. I wonder, though, what she’s actually like. So far we only had second hand account of her. According to Slughorn, she’s very smart. Could it be that she got the trust of the princes, got her position, and now plotting how to overthrow them?

Met was very useful to give Ron an insight into Turkey Pure-Bloods. As it was already said, Mehmet Bey Kartal is the most powerful man in Turkey, and insanely rich. I winder how his wealth measure up to Greengrass’ and Malfoy’s. And he apparently stole a lot of land from other Sehzade. Also, he has a bad temper and beats his wife. That’s a very drastic difference between him and British Pure-Bloods, who do love or at least respect their wives. Even sexist like Yaxley is gentle with Anastasia. And according to Met such practices of physically “disciplining” wives is common in Magical Turkey. Not only among the Pure-Bloods, but “commoners” as well. Yikes. That sounds very bad, and makes me wonder even more, how there were no witches rebellions?

Afshin Bey sounds to be a good guy, according to both Met and her mother. Robert Bulstrode also seemed to be a nice and jolly man at first, and look how he turns out? I really wish for Afshin to be “one of the good ones”. Doesn’t matter how it sounds, but majority of Pure-Bloods are presented as bad guys, and these who aren’t are outliers. And he is Turkey’s National Dueling Champion. I wonder is he really that good, or he just bribed the competition? I mean, he’s a Bey, and it’s even more serious business in Magical Turkey then Britain.

Also, it’s interesting that Dilara Begum were rejecting him until Afshin proved himself. Considered how sexist Magical Turkey is presented to be, I’m surprised that she herself has the right to do it. If her father or brother, or other male head of a family rejected his proposals, it would be more plausible. So does some women have some real power in Magical Turkey?

Aslan Bey. What could be said about him? The oldest Bey alive, and well respected by other Beys, even Mehmet. Or and he forced Banou Bey’s father to pay his debt with his daughter’s hand in marriage. Disgusting. Hell, even Met who knows almost nothing about other cultures is ashamed of this.

This Gala makes it more and more clear that Ron is right, and these Pure-Bloods who seized power and wealth of their native lands are holding the Wizarding World back. They are the reason of majority of suffering that is happening in the Wizarding world. Hopefully, the upcoming war is going to bring massive changes in Wizarding World, not only in Britain, but globally. The problems will never end, of course, with Voldemort’s defeat. He’s just the biggest threat the world had even seen, but he’s not the source of all evil. Hell, even these Pure-Bloods are not the source – they are just the most successful at brining it. Even, if Ron will defeat Voldemort and bring down all of these Blood-Supremacists, the problems will still appear. But smaller in scale, hopefully.

Review for chapter 155 part 4

Meeting with Horace and Sanguini. Hey, it’s Sanguini! Didn’t expect to see him in the story – we already have plenty Vampire characters, and now we have one from the original story. Pretty funny how Slughorn is so innocently offensive! Like, the most important thing about Sanguini in his book is the fact he’s a vampire, while Sanguini himself introduced as traveler and philosopher. I say innocent without quotes, because it seems Horace does not even realize he offends anyone when he does it.

Sanguini’s travels and adventures sound so cool! Especially ever-elusive Temple of Shadows! This is one of the places Ron must visit somewhere in the story! The name is too grand to be only a lore name-drop in the story!

Sanguini’s reluctance to shake Ron’s hand indicate that as a vampire he can somehow sense that Ron is different. Maybe even dangerous. The fact that Gaspard sensed it in Ron is not surprising – he’s probably the most powerful Vampire in the world, and his exotic abilities are more advanced than anyone of his kind. The fact, that a regular vampire can sense something is off with Ron, may become troublesome in the future, though.

The Hydromancers’ tribe in the far north and their exceptional magic of manipulating ice and water… Clearly inspired by Water Tribes from Avatar the Last Airbender! That’s cool! By the way, Jurgen is also a Hydromancer – did he study this magic from the tribe Slughorn and Sanguini are visiting? Because according to Sanguini it’s the only place that practice Hydromancy.

Sanguini’s conclusions that Muggles expansion will cause the climate change and force the tribe to move away, and eventually lose the Art of Hydromancy is terribly sad. Such an amazing magic, that was not very wide-spread in the first place will be lost! We already saw such thing happening with Progenitor magic, that become outdated and forgotten, with a very few practitioners in this day and age. Maybe, Slughorn’s book will preserve the knowledge of the art for future generations, and maybe centuries later, some other witch or wizard will find his book and re-vitalize the practice? Or maybe some of Ron’s friends or Golden Trio will visit the place, and master the art of Hydromancy too? It’s unlikely to be Ron himself – his development moves in a different direction. But someone from Cobras can take it. Blaise for example already witnessed some Hydromancy from Jurgen. He might be impressed enough to try and learn it.

Maybe Greta Thornburg (Quibbler’s editor) will produce an article about environmental change at the tribes area, due to Muggle advancement?

Ron subtly investigated Slughorn on his relationships with Grueva and the Pure-Bloods. Knowing Ron, it was not hard to see what and why he was doing it, as Dumbledore pointed out moments later. I’m pretty sure Horace do not fit Ron’s Code as he has never participated in anything criminal (except making money from occasional contraband). But would not be fond of Slughorn either, since he helped many future Death Eaters in their youth one way or another. Maybe if Ron will meet someone like Dirk Cresswell – a muggle-born wizard who become highly-ranked Ministry official with Slughorn’s help, Ron might mellow out a little to Horace. I mean, in general Slughorn is an okay guy, but a horrible judge of a character. We, as readers do know that he sincerely against Voldemort and Blood-Supremacy (at least if Fate follows canon in that regard). But he certainly do himself no favors in Ron’s eyes by closely associating with “former” Death Eaters. On the other hand he’s also have a good relationships with Dumbledore and Madame Maxime – two of the leaders of Anti-Voldemort’s coalition.

I would also like to see Slughorn prove himself, like he did in canon, where he was the only Slytherin who fought at Battle of Hogwarts against Voldemort, and even personally dueled the Dark Lord for a time. I’m also curious how Fate will portray his abilities. I have no doubt that he’s extremely powerful, skillful and versatile wizard with tremendous knowledge. But he’s not exactly a fighter type. He has only one showing of martial magic in canon, and generally do not make an impression of a fighter, but his feat is astonishing! He fought Voldemort and lived! An exceptional display of courage and skill! Obviously, in Fate there will be more Slytherins on the good side, so Slughorn will not be unique. Still, would be nice to see him contribute in a war effort. Maybe he’ll surprise us by displaying Hydromancy in combat.

Moody’s confrontation with Ron. Good to see that Ron sensed Alastor’s approach from behind. Though, Moody probably didn’t hide his magical signature. If he did, Ron probably wouldn’t notice him.

It was funny how spectacularly Moody’s attempt at intimidating had failed, and he was scared instead. Alastor certainly didn’t expect such precise read of his character from Ron. I guess he expected to deal with some cunning, but cowardly and arrogant lordling, who think too much of himself. In reality he faced a real deal, who not only was not impressed, but in turn triggered all alarming instincts in Moody himself. Too bad that from now on Moody will be keeping a keen eye on Ron and everything he does. Well, it was ought to happen, consider how much Ron really put his nose where many would say it don’t belong. Dumbledore of course tried to smooth things, but Alastor didn’t buy it. He read the situation wrongly, but he does have some good instincts. Harry too by the way. Right now Remus trains Harry, but some mentorship from Moody – real Moody, not Crouch Jr – would be useful for him.

Ron also correctly pointed out that recently Aurors become too liberal with the use of intimidation or even outright violence. Very similar to American Aurors. Even though, Moody and Robards didn’t actually use violence, but without a doubt they threatened children with it. And he war is not even in a full swing. Scary to think how brutal the Aurors will turn to be when the war will become very active.

Moody also mentioned that Ron stinks of Dark Magic. Did he meant it literally? Ron gives the vibes of Dark Magic, when an experienced wizard is sensing his magic? Similar to how Ron sensed Bellatrix in the different universe? Does that mean, that anyone who has sensing skills can feel darkness in Ron? Or Moody just meant it figuratively?

Corban’s POV.
Rowle and Bulstrode are so pathetic raging about Ron’s appearance. They were taught to keep self-control, and they let it slip so easily. Samantha Selwyn would run circles around them in this department. Corban and Felix once again demonstrate that they are the brains of British Pure-Bloods, keeping it cool.

For a competent Lord, Robert is suppose to be, he’s not too bright, threatening Ron out loud, when Voldemort made it clear Ron not to be hurt.

Bulstrode’s assassin went to hiding because some crazy guy chopped off his hand? World is the small place, we are going to meet Ajax again, I want to see his reaction when he’ll be tasked with yet another assassination of Ron. That’s gonna be hilarious! He’ll be like: “No! Not this demon child again!”

Despite how much Ron advanced, it’s nice to see that his enemies are still underestimate him. Very convenient for him – if they are underestimate him, Ron can take advantage of it and catch them off guard. Secrecy is one Ron’s greatest tools. And this is why Gaspard is so bloody dangerous! Not only he’s extremely powerful, crafty, cunning and ruthless, he’s also the only of Ron’s enemies that sees him as an actual threat. And maybe, the decision to bring Ron at the Gala was not a very good one – it reveals that Ron and Dumbledore are working together in some capacity, which could make some people more on guard with Ron. More prepared for him.

So Grueva is the most powerful Bulgarian Pure-Blood. And her husband, probably was one, before his death. Well, she has a house more Luxurious than Greengrass manor, and apparently she commands Bulgarian Minister for Magic and Head of DMLE. Lord Gruev was probably in similar position in Bulgaria as Lucius was in Britain, before losing his power. Ron seriously hurt Pure-Bloods by getting rid off him. Grueva is still the most powerful Pure-Blood, but he position is shaking right now – less powerful Lords smelled the blood, and want to take their piece.

While Yaxley is generally presented as a smart individual, I think Grueva played him in this conversation. Cobran is a known sexist – just remember his remarks about George Selwyn’s wife at Carows’ party. Even though he sympathize with Grueva because she’s a Pure-Blood, he does not sees her as competent and capable. And she played on his bigotry and sexism by playing a damsel in distress, basically ensuring that Yaxley and Bulstrode will back her up against rival Bulgarian Pure-Bloods. Corban may think it’s his win, but from my point of view, Grueva will use Cobran, while giving him very little in return. That’s until Voldemort decide to take her fealty.

Amelia Bones’ POV.
Moody was certainly rattled by Ron and It was funny to see disturbed reaction of Amelia and Crouch to this. They sent Alastor to intimidate Ron, and he comeback getting his arse handed to him.

It’s interesting how more militant characters are catching on Ron’s danger quicker than others. First Scrimgeour, now Moody, and even Amelia is following the trend. While Crouch is still underestimating him. And now they are going to sent either Madam Roberts or Tonks to spy on Ron. Yeah, maybe going to this Gala was not Ron’s best decision – he still didn’t achieved anything, but already paint a target on his back for Ministry top-brass.

Moody mentioned that he faced Voldemort himself. And he probably meant not that one time at Malfoy manor, but one of the encounters during the First War. That’s really impressive, especially if he survived without Dumbledore’s help.

It was funny to see how Amelia was thinking to put Ron in his place. Oh girl, you are up for a good rattle yourself.

Review for chapter 155 part 3

The Gala.
Thorfinn Rowle was the first one to greet Corban at the Gala. Yaxley come well prepared for recruitment, Felix even made a list of guests to approach Guests that once swore the allegiance to the Dark Lord. Damn, Germany gas so many of then! Not surprised at all at Rask and Waldvogel. Also, Ackermann and Jager? Attack on Titan says – hello! At least Maiers were not mentioned – they probably were like Blacks, silent supporters then outright Death Eaters. I wonder does this oath of allegiance also include Dark Marks? Are they fully Death Eaters, or they didn’t earned that “honor”?

So Thorfinn has a bastard daughter Euphemia. Same name as Harry’s grandmother by the way. Interestingly, that Yaxley does not have any disdain for her bastard status at all. He’s annoyed at the thought that he has to host a child at his house, but never once he despised her for being a bastard. It also probably means that he mother was a Pure-Blood too. Unlikly Anastasia would have been so enarmored with a child of not a Pure-Blood. Now, who’s the mother? Why she and Thorfinn are not married? And does Euphemia is Rowle’s official heir?

Ron and Dumbledore’s entrance was flashy as expected, and instantly turned everyone’s attention to them. I liked Corban’s reaction – he instantly remembered Gaspard’s warning about Ron. And maybe even took it more seriously now. On the other hand his thoughts on Dumbledore were hilarious – for all of his intellect, Yaxley is delusional, if he thinks he’s Albus’ better.

Ron’s POV.
Damn, Ron is so triggered by Grueva’s luxurious manor and Pure-Blood guests, he’s ready to jump into action and start slaughtering then. Hell, he wants them to start it!

Dumbledore, of course, enjoying to shock everyone. Even though he’s trying to make this humble façade, he likes to show off.

A little lore from Dumbledore about Magical Turkey. It’s a first time we hear something about Magical Turkey, except that Malik Hussain fought Voldemort’s supporters there. There are actual Royalty in the Wizarding World – princes of the blood imperial, descendants of Sultan Osman. According to Dumbledore, they are extremely powerful and looking down on everyone who is not the same royalty, even on 28 sacred families. An arrogant bunch, don’t they? They also, seems to openly oppress their own population. At least in Britain, Pure-Bloods made in seems like Ministry is independent and works for people’s prosperity. It is an illusion of course, but many British witches and wizards believe it. Also, while Dumbledore do not insert himself in politics too much, he probably influenced a lot of changes for Magical Britain society. At very least, as a Headmaster of Hogwarts he forbid physical punishments to the students. In Magical Turkey, women apparently openly discriminated. Yet, somehow a woman – Berrak Ulusoy – become the first woman Vizier of Magical Turkey, which seems to be a great progressive step forward. Though, I wonder, how exactly Magical Turkey could have discriminate against their women. I mean, witches has magic just as powerful as any men. It’s hard to believe that for centuries, there we no rebellious women groups at Magical Turkey that would not try to fight – including with actual violence – for their rights.

As interesting as it is, Dumbledore should have probably shared it before the Gala for Ron to prepare. Also, it’s surprising Ron didn’t have done a proper “homework” beforehand himself. Americans’ files on Voldemort’s supporters were not enough for proper preparation, I would say.

Well Minster Grigorov showed his true colors right of the bet – he is a puppet of the Bulgarian Pure-Bloods though and through. And his wife is the Head of DMLE, and she’s also on Pure-Bloods payroll. That means, Ron and Dumbledore would have a lot more work to deal with – remove these corrupt politicians from power and bring anti-Voldemort ones. This is probably where Krum and his family comes to play, after the Triwizard tournament. Krums are very anti-Grindelwald, and I believe it extends to them being very anti-Voldemort too. Viktor also was on the side of good guys, at least nominally as he attended Bill and Fleur wedding. He didn’t do much though, but canon books are also had relatedly small scale. In Fate, I believe pretty much everyone would be involved in war, one way or another. So I expect more involvement from Krum in Fate.

I liked how Dumbledore assured Grigorov that he will personally guarantee Ron’s safety! Such an epic flex! I like so much when Dumbledore do things like this, and remind everyone how immeasurably powerful he truly is. All of their power, wealth, influence and wands (Aurors or mercs) just can’t compete with him.

New lessons with Dumbledore on Transfiguration and Conjuration does sound alluring. Still waiting for Snape’s personal lessons too, that he planned to do.

Apparently, Gruev manor is even more luxurious and extravagant then Greengrass manor. Ron had almost the same reaction to this as he did to luxury of Johan’s “Hospital”. Or should it be called entertainment center? Ron’s conclusions about corruption at Bulgarian, Russian and British Ministry are not very hopeful. Add to this what we already knows about Rask bribery and how things are going in Magical Turkey and the picture become even more grim. So much wealth, luxury and prosperity concentrated in hands of so very few people, who use it – or better say abuse it – for their own prosperity and entertainment, when majority of people suffers and struggles to even survive. And that’s only witches and wizards – other magical species are suffer even more. The game is rigged – is very precise description.

I liked how Ron handled Lady Grueva. He was not rude, but he was honest in what he said. No false condolences or anything! Damn, that’s so… authentic of him! Reminds me of a scene at Mungo Gala, when he decided to say everything that he thought about Umbridge’s legislations, not concerning that he’ll make an enemy out of her. Well, he’s already an enemy of Blood-Supremacists, so he has nothing to lose here. Still, he was maximally polite it his answer.

Though, I think Dumbledore was partly sincere in what he was saying. He is sorry for the suffering of Grueva – and more importantly her son – had experienced. He was not sorry for deceased Lord Gruev.

I’m concerned for the contempt Ron has in his mind for Augusta Longbottom, and don’t get where it is coming from. She was always good to him, and helpful. Contempt for Sebastian and Muriel is understandable – Greengrass is a murderer who deceived him, and Muriel was always a hateful bitch, and Ron had to appease her, when he was rising in power. But Augusta is non of that – she’s not a murderer, and she never demanded anything from Ron, except some level of respect.

Amelia Bones’ POV
Even Moody knows that half of the guests were Voldemort’s supporters and the other half secretly funded him. Did Ron even needed American files, if it’s basically a common knowledge? And it seems like he plan to get help from foreign Ministers are starting to fail – Samara is Voldemort’s direct subordinate, and Grigorov is Bulgarian Pure-Bloods’ puppet.

Amusing how annoyed Amelia, Moody and Crouch were when learned that Dumbledore took Ron to a Gala. But they also noted correctly that they have a very close relationships. Harry actually noted it first, but everyone ignored it. And now, Ron and Dumbledore aren’t even hiding that they are friends and partners. In some ways it’s even going to help Ron in a long run – if everyone aware he and Albus and buddies, many would be more willing to deal with him.

I’m a little annoyed with Amelia’s decision to make Moody confront Ron. It make sense to have questions, but making Head Auror intimidate a teenager to interrogate him without having a good justification for it… it’s not a good look for a Minister.

Back to Ron’s POV.
Ron perfectly memorized German Pure-Bloods’ crimes from American Aurors’ files, and even already sentenced them to death for it. He does not even consider to catch and lock them up in Azkaban, just straight out kill them. At least, he’s not going to act against their children without confirmation of their involvement at something immoral. Rom becomes more and more radicalized, and I partly blame RavenclawRon for this – he fans Ron’s rage.

Interesting, that Johanna Jager and Stefan Farber are Professors in Durmastrang, despite being so highly-ranked Pure-Bloods. We didn’t saw British Pure-Bloods (except Slughorn) to be eager to teach at Hogwarts at all. It’s understandable it Vulchanova’s case – being a teacher is family’s centuries old tradition. What Johanna and Stefan get from teaching kids Anti-Muggle Lessons and Magical Monsters? If I have to guess, they try what Tom Riddle originally wanted to do as a teacher – influence young witches and wizards and prepare their own armies. Maybe. Why they didn’t took Headmaster’s position instead of Karkaroff though… it’s not like he’s exactly a very prominent figure. He’s Pure-Bloods figure-head like Fudge and Grigorov. If I had to guess, they were stonewalled by Conrad Rask – he would benefit the most from not allowing other German families to take over Headmastership of Durmstrang and keep a puppet.

Ron is correct about Blood-Supremacist Lords and Ladies – they are the prime source of problems in the Wizarding world for the past century. Or maybe even further. Voldemort and Grindelwald caused so much destruction because they had support of these powerful Pure-Bloods. Though, Ron’s solution to just kill them all is way too extreme. It is fully justified to fight them. It is fully justified to remove them from power. It’s even justified to kill them in a combat. But Ron does not even consider a possibility of any other alternative. In essence he becomes just as radical as was Barty Crouch in the First War. And while Crouch’s methods brought some results and gave good guys a breathing room, they still caused some unnecessary damage – like Sirius being imprisoned without a trial. Didn’t Rom learned anything from his example? Killing is an essential and unavoidable part of war. But even it’s had to be done, one should not be eager to do it. Some restrain would be more beneficial. For example capture Fudge and give him over to Amelia Bones, would have brought better results then just murdering him. With his confession Aurors could have arrest some of British Pure-Bloods, like Yaxley and Bulstrode, which would severely damage Voldemort’s power base in Britain.

Dumbledore made an obvious mistake bringing Greengrasses as an example of a redemption. Albus clearly underestimate how much Ron hate Sebastian now. Ron have a point about Snape’s redemption, though. He’s clearly more genuine in that pursue then Greengrass, and certainly deserves more respect. And he may be right about Sebastian’s motivations right now. However, I think at some point, Greengrass may actually change, may actually seek a genuine redemption. Or maybe I’m just way too naïve.
Minatom chapter 155 . 11/13/2024
Review for chapter 155 part 2

Slytherin confrontation with Flint and his gang of thugs. Oh, it was delicious as Theo puts it! Seeing the entire House turned against Flint – and all other Houses already are turned against him – probably felt so good for Draco.

It was funny to read how Flint was digging his grave deeper and deeper during his meltdown. I’, also astonished how stupid Flint is – he was completely unaware of what’s going on and what he’s doing wrong. Read the room, Marcus!

Samantha as always was the most stoic of the Triumvirate girls during the confrontation. She would make an excellent Occlemens, if she ever tried.

The confrontation ended anti-climatically, I would say – Blaise just stunned Flint, when he was ready to attack the girls. Ron dealt with Marcus way more dramatically. Also, while Triumvirate did threaten Flint’s gang to stop associate with their leader, it would have been more impactful, if they were given an ultimatum: choose between Flint and Slytherin House, and they would be indecisively one by one leave his side, making Flint more desperate and angry. I’m also, wonder what is going to happen with Flint’s gang in the next year. Especially Warrington, Crabbe and Goyle. Crabbe and Goyle don’t seem to be operating much without a ringleader. Though we know Crabbe can be proactive on his own – like in canon. But that trait of his hasn’t been shown yet. What are they going to do next year, all alone? I think Crabbe likes violence way too much, and will eventually become a Death Eater or Death Eater in training. Goyle, I think still can male a turn. And Cassius Warrington is fairly popular character in fanfiction – usually he’s that one guy among Slytherins of his year to turn. Though, in Fate he’s been showed to be aggressive and hot-tempered, while Montague – who usually portrayed as a thug in other fictions – portrayed more level-headed.

Well, Ron’s plan has worked perfectly, and Slytherin finally dealt with Flint problem. Unless, he fails yet another exam and Ron would have to deal with him in the next year too.

I liked how quickly and decisively Blaise put Flint down. He became much more comfortable with violence. Not that it’s a positive quality in ordinary circumstances, but the war is going to break through soon, and violence is the language of war. Also, Flint proved that he cannot be reasoned with, sadly violence is the only answer. Cobras are slowly become more and more martial and militarized. First it was just Ron, then Millie followed his footsteps, and now Blaise. Not only he fought the most desperately and violently (except Ron), he also the only one who still trains after the tournament, and was the quickest to react at Flint.

Blaise with Triumvirate girls. Damn, Blaise was so savage. After he impressed them by putting down Flint, the girls tried their favorite tactic to make him an ally (or a puppet) – use their sexuality for seduction. That backfired amazingly! Thanks to his mother, Blaise was very well familiar with weaponized sexuality. Since the very young age he was exposed to his mother’s seduction techniques that she practiced on the other men, and by now he basically has immunity to it.

That was so amusing to see Blaise seeing through their manipulations with easy and reject them in most brutal way. They certainly didn’t expect that – girls miscalculated. Again. Which only shows how unprepared they are for leadership. They are better than their yearmates, but their abilities in that field are very limited.

Also, while it was cathartic to read Blaise telling them off and peg them down, I think he tried too much to be tough as Ron. Theo would probably handled it in more Slytherin way in Blaise’s place. I think Theo would have figured out their manipulations too, but would play along to watch the show. Shamelessly, hehe. He would have promised his support to the girls, while schemed his own designs. Basically, Triumvirate schemes would have failed on Theo too, but he would take advantage of it.

It was funny how Blaise lost a little respect for Ron for falling down to the girls’ tactic in the past and was their happy yes-man for a time! Good to see he still remains loyal to him, and warned the girls not try to turn his friends against him or they’ll regret t.

It’s so funny that when Blaise told the Cobras how Samantha was Triumvirate girls tried to seduce him, Pansy to was envious and eager, along with Theo. And she got a pass for it, from Daphne, unlike Theo!

Interesting to see Daphne suggesting not to tell Ron about Triumvirate girls. She’s still trying to get out of Rob’s shadow, to be her own person, to prove she’s worthy, to be independent and powerful on her own. A respectable desire, but she falls to the same mistake as Pansy – she thinks she can keep up with Ron. She can’t. Blaise is more realistic in his view point and understands that Ron is one of the most powerful and influential wizards in the world, and way above their league.

Blasé is right, that as his friends Cobras should inform and back up Ron as their friend, and as a leader of Slytherin. But Daphne also right, that they should step up, and earn some respect on their own, not the ones that got handed it from Ron. So the most balanced way is to try earn their own respect and use it to back up Ron, while keeping him in the loop.

Draco for once was the voice of reason, and even Blaise reluctantly agreed with him.

Ron’s POV.
Turns out Ron do not need Cobras to share anything with him – he already has Marty spying on Slytherins. Neat. Poor Marty though – he’s doing everything! Does he even sleep at all? Ron is so lucky to have him! And maybe, just maybe Ron will make contracts with a few more Elves to ease Marty’s schedule? The guy is overworking! Obviously Marty is going to be his closest confidant, and sent on most important missions. But another Elf or two could take over of mundane chores, and maybe also spying then and there. In a Ministry for example.

So nice of Ron to share his cottage with Marty. He even convinced him to chill and get time for himself, while Ron is at the Gala.

Ron’s plans for Slytherin when he returns: throw a party and appoint first year delegates. Funny that Fred, George and Lee were suspended and punished for “planning” a party with alcohol, but Ron not only planning it, the throw several of them, including one for Ravenclaw, and got away with it. I like Ron, but there are some injustice to it)

Also, the first years are going to worship Ron for officially showing them so much respect. Astoria is going to be mad, though for not be appointed as a delegate. Mathew becoming a delegate was obvious – he was the top student from day one. Flora and Hestia are a little less expected. They were among the candidates, and I was wondering could only one of the twins get a delegate position (in the next year, because I didn’t expected Ron to make first years delegates), while the other don’t get one. The other candidates were Lysandra and John Fawley.

I wonder will Ron continue the trend to influence the new first years in the next year? Especially because there will be Mafalda. Though Ron is not impressed with her, Mafalda being a brat and everything. But she is a prodigy and an heir of Prewett family. It would be a waste not to get her under his influence. I believe she’s also ought to become a delegate for the first years.

Yaxley’s POV.
An interesting beginning of a POV – Corban was annoyed due to lack of sex wife with his frail wife. And so he thought of finding someone on at the Gala to be his bed-warmer. Ugh. Okay, I get the desire, but so shamelessly planning to cheat on his wife is icky. Or maybe Anastasia approves of it. I mean, there are people in open marriages, so…

Felix and Corban talk. Even though Felix is on the bad side and technically supported Voldemort and Death Eaters, I feel sorry for him. With Felix it’s obviously an upbringing thing – he was taught to be Blood-Supremacist by both of his families. But it’s clear he’s not cut so that. Like Regulus was not, how Draco is not. Also, he haven’t seen his beloved Victor for months and has all the reasons to think he’s dead. Not to mention getting involved in Voldemort’s war is also a stressful thing. I still wonder how he’ll turn out in the end. He can either went the Regulus’ path and betray the Dark Lord (but survive thanks to Ron, maybe), or he can transform fully into a vengeful Death Eater as a reaction to the truth of Victor’s “death” at Ron’s hands.

As of now, Felix feels self-conscious about going to the Bulgarian Gala. He afraid he’s going to be looked down, because of his sexual preference. Interestingly, that he was pretty confident to attend Mungo Gala. Probably, because it was in Britain and foreigners were not expected. He felt himself secure in the “domain” of 28 Sacred Families, as he is a head of one. Bulgarian Gala is an International event, with many foreign Lords and Ladies in attendance, and Felix does not feel so confident anymore. The guy clearly lack guts. Hell, even Lucius has more. I wonder what relationships were between Felix, Charlie and Tonks – they were in the same year, if my calculations are correct.

For all of Yaxley’s faults he do care for Felix as, if he’s his own son. His pep-talk was nice and boosted Rosier’s confidence a little.

Yaxley’s lore rant was very informative. I wonder how much of what he said is true, and how much it was colored by his patriotic perception? He’s probably factually correct about all of these events – British wizards were the first to craft magical wands, which turned the tides of their confrontation against other magical species, and let them become the dominant force. The first to found a nation-wide magical school. The first to establish a Ministry. Also, British were the main force to implement a Statute of Secrecy. Not to mention that the greatest wizards of all time: Merlin, Dumblodre and Voldemort are also British. Yes, I can see why Yaxley is so pompous and “patriotic”. Though, he forgets a few things: He and his peers were not the ones to achieve all this – it was their ancestors. Also, he severely diminish the input of Half-Bloods and Muggle-borns in the creation of their prosperous society. I mean, Dumbledore himself is a Half-Blood. It’s almost like Magical Britain is a country of the main character, like Konoha in Naruto)

For all of the great accomplishments of the past in British History, right now Magical Britain is not at the best shape – a sad consequence of Voldemort’s Wizarding Wars.

Amusing how passionately Corban praises Ralston Potter. He’s right of course that advocating for implementation of Statute of Secrecy was a good thing. However, it seems like he misunderstood Ralston’s motivations: Potter probably wanted to avoid war with Muggles and the bloodshed because he was a good man – I hope so – not because it was politically convenient.

I have to say, Potters have a very impressive lineage. Not on the level of Herpo’s lineage, but still quite remarkable. Hopefully Ron will help Harry to release his potential to become a great wizard. Maybe even surpass Alastor Moody as the greatest Auror.

Yaxley is going to prepare an Alliance of foreign Pure-Blood Lords, that he’ll deliver to Voldemort’s service, when the Dark Lord is going to return. Quite a good plan, and if worked Corban may even return some of Voldemort’s favor. He also not of particularly high opinion of foreign Pure-Bloods. They are certainly needed for his dreamed Pure World, but he still has some sort of “patriotism” for British Pure-Bloods.

Review for chapter 155 part 1

Millie’s POV.
It’s been two weeks since Ruta started follow Millie’s example and defy Kemppainen. And they both were regularly punished by him. Millie seems to took it better than her Polish friend – Ruta looks and acts almost like a husk. Poor thing! But damn, Ruta has guts! Even after ordeal Kemppainen put her through, she continues to defy him. She’s like Neville, but tougher – Neville afraid to defy Snape, who way less cruel than Kemppainen. And Ruta challenges her Dark Arts professor on regular basis now. Badass! Such sadism puts me off. Though, it opens a perspective on Ron’s dictatorship at Slytherin. In a way, he too threatens to use violence to make Slytherins do his biding. And sometimes he even openly uses it. Like on Flint. And Carey. Luckily, Slytherins are mostly cowards and afraid to openly defy him, so by now Ron hasn’t yet lower himself to Kemppainen’s level of cruelty.

Grindelwald is something else! Before he was expelled at 16, he put his Mark that to this day, a hyndred years later can’t be removed! They even destroyed the wall and build it anew, yet the Mark still appeared! That’s an epic level of magic! And Gellert was only 16! At times like this, it feels hopeless for Ron to catch up to legends like this! I mean, yes his martial magic is probably unrivalled by any wizard of his age for the last few centuries… yet the potential of wizards like Dumbledore, Grindelwald, and Voldemort is on a completely different level, out of this world!

It’s also dreading – how horrible was Grindelwald to be expelled from Durmstrang! Judging by the school’s standards he should have been it’s most praised student. It would make sense of course for Durmstrang to denounce Gellert after his fall. But they expelled him before he become a legendary wizard. WHAT Gellert could have possibly do so horrible to get himself expelled, yet not arrested? If I had to guess, he probably humiliated an heir of the most powerful Pure-Blood family in a Magical Eastern Europe – like Rask currently is – who’s parents pull all kinds of strings to get him expelled.

Also, interestingly, Gellert didn’t had his wand broken as expelled student should. So I guess once a person get his OWLs or whatever comparable examination there is in Durmstrang, Ministry do not break an expelled student’s wand. That would explain how Fred and George kept theirs’ when they flee Hogwarts before graduation in the original.

Another meeting with Eric Schwartz gave me more of uneasy feelings about him. On the surface, he’s perfectly kind and supportive and good, but there is something off about him that I can’t put my finger on. He’s too suspicious. While, his hug apparently had a positive effect on girls, letting them cry all the negative feelings out of their system… there is still something disturbing about it. Firstly, it’s way too familiar behavior for so little time they know each other. Secondly, the age gap is a little disturbing too. Surprisingly, I didn’t felt disturbed by the same age gap between Hermione and Krum, even if I probably should have. But maybe it’s because Krum was genuinely good and even shy guy. Despite how supportive Eric seems to be, and how his support actually helped Millie and Ruta, I still have a feeling that it was a calculated manipulation, instead of being genuine. Fate made me paranoid, ever since the Mungo Gala – after Veelas betrayal, I’m suspicious of new characters, until they prove their reliability. Maybe Eric uses Millie to get in contact with Greengrasses and through schemes get control of Maier family fortune. He also claims to be friends with Viktor Krum – Durmstrang star student. A very valuable and useful friendship here. It also can be the fact, that Viktor is just a good guy to be friend with… Still don’t trust this Eric guy.

Eric’s advice has it’s merit. Millie – and Rute – has to play along with Kemppainen. For now at least. I mean, Ron of course would not have accepted the horrors that are going on in Durmstrang. But it’s important to remember – Ron didn’t start the ruthless and powerful that he is now, that do not compromise on his principles. When he got into Slytherin, he adapted. He learned what Slytherins is, what is expected of him, how to get respect, position and power. Yes, he never compromised on his core principles, while doing that. Ron tried to get allies in Slytherin, to appease the House with winning points and parties and etc, before, he said “f… it! My way or a high way!” Millie just skipped all the side quests and challenged the final boos at level 1. She can’t take on Kemppainen right now, she’s just hurting herself. So it would probably be better to play along for now,, get a breathing room, get stronger and only then try to do the Ron thing. Despite being the same age as Ron, Millie does not have his experience she’s not that hardened yet. Millie is only in a beginning of her journey and I wonder where it leads.

Millie decided to stay with Ruta in Durmstrang! What an interesting turn of events! Reading this scene, I suddenly understand that I want more and more of Durmstrang lore! More of it’s everyday life! Hell, somehow this place started to intrigue me. Yes, it’s grim, and dark, but no less mysterious and interesting then Hogwarts. I think it would be great to have at least one Millie POV in Durmstrang per chapter. Having her own story in Durmstrang developing alongside the main plot.

I really can’t say what I want more from Millie’s plot – to stay in Durmstrang to the end of her education, and her becoming a reformer, the wind of change that make Durmstrang a better place, and occasionally involved with other main characters and the main plot. Or for Millie to permanently reunite with the gang and leave Durmstrang for good. Taking Ruta with her of course. The first one would be a more epic journey with much more Durmstrang lore. The second one would be a happier one.

Blaise’s POV.
I can’t put into words how happy I am seeing Blaise practicing dueling skills on his own. Without any tournament in sight, without Ron’s pushing it, just on his own. He may do it for a wrong reason – getting back at Harry for a stolen victory – but I’ll take it. Hopefully, he’ll not run out of motivation any time soon. What can I say, I love when fantasy characters level up. And either Blaise become too good, or school dummy is just too worn out – it can’t give Blaise a challenge anymore. Still, there is a long long way to go. I remember Ron dueling 5 regular dummies at once and struggling so hard he got beaten into sand during his first year. And he levelled up tremendously since then. Blaise is still practicing with just one.

Damn, Blaise is so bitter about his defeat and he’s angry at both Dumbledore for setting up Harry’s victory, and at Harry for taking it. Blaise even at the best of days could hardly tolerate Golden Trio. And after the tournament, he’ll just going to hate Harry and despise Dumbledore. Which can bring even more complications for him.

The talk with Pansy was brilliant! Blaise ripped her into a new one! And it was totally deserved! I like how she started all high and mighty with Blaise, being angry that everyone underestimates her all the time, only to get called out on her cheating in the tournament, that was obvious to anyone who put their mind to it. Which means she’s not only can win on her own merit, but also can’t cheat properly without getting caught. It’s like double lose. And consequently, people’s estimation of her is actually correct. Okay, saying that is probably a bit too harsh. Pansy is not a beacon of intelligence if course, but she’s not stupid either. She’s just 13 after all, and recently got freedom from her abusive parents and immense inheritance. It got into her head too much it seems.

Even with all of her “freedom” and wealth, Pansy still suffers from crippling deep sited insecurities that were put by her mother. She still feels herself the lesser, the least loved, or even not loved at all. It parallels Ron’s insecurities in the beginning of the story about being the least loved, the unworthy, constantly overshadowed sibling. Granted Weasleys are immeasurably better parents then Pansy’s ever were.

I liked how Blaise paralleled his defeat with Daphne’s – they both were training harder than any of their opponents in their respective rankings. They both fought harder than anyone in their respective rankings, they gave everything they’ve got. And both were cheated of their reserved victories and lost. The way Blaise describe their efforts, the raw feelings that he expressed about giving it all and still losing… that was amazing! So colorful and dramatic (in a good way). Spartan’s raw feeling rants/monologues are incredible!

Blaise pointed out that Theo and Draco figured out Pansy cheated too. I wonder who else? Triumvirate girls most likely. Snape for some reason probably didn’t noticed it. I mean, if he did he would have mentioned it to Ron in their heart to heart talk in previous chapter. Which made me curious – why he didn’t notice.

So glad that Blaise forced Pansy to realize that she was not being cunning as she thought she is. She also betrayed Daphne by cheating her of her victory. It’s one thing that Dumbledore – who don’t have any meaningful relationship with Blaise – shuffled the tournament basket, sitting it up for Harry to win. It’s completely different for Pansy to steal Daphne’s victory she worked so hard for. That’s just stabbing your friend in a back. Okay, maybe not so dramatic, but still awful.

Pansy is not a bad person, she didn’t cheated out of malice. It was selfish no doubt, but not malicious. She didn’t meant to hurt Daphne – Pansy didn’t thought about her friend at the moment. It was foolish of her. I think the main reason of Pansy’s recent irrational behavior is realization of her “freedom” from her abusive mother. She was belittled and abused by Violet for so long that now she have her “freedom” she’s running high on it, which clouds her better judgment. She’s trying to overcompensate for all the time she was oppressed, so she takes “bold” and “cunning” action, which in reality are reckless an mindless.

The fact that Pansy wants to protect Blaise from Clementine is noble of her, but Blaise correctly pointed out that Pansy is delusional, if she thinks she can compete with her.

"What madness has convinced you that you could ever hope to stop her?! Because you have deep vaults?!" Blaise argued, no longer caring about keeping his composure. "Her victims had deep vaults too! What good did their gold do them, huh?!”

Such sharp line from Blaise! Awesome!
I liked how Blaise called Pansy out on her recklessness and unearned arrogance, like she feels free to antagonize Augusta Longbottom and making an enemy of Clementine. And if the later can be justified by her protecting her friend, the former was just an expression of her hubris. At this point Pansy just shooting herself in the legs by getting on the bad side of Augusta, Clementine, and potentially Daphne and Ron.

Even though it was harsh, Pansy is quite lucky to have Blaise calling her out on her faults and setting her straight. A bitter pill to swallow, but it’s better for her to recognize her mistakes sooner and start to fix them.

Blaise convinced that his mother is not let him go, and actually has some revenge plan cooking right now. That’s actually very reasonable of him to be afraid of Clementine. And I have a feeling that Blaise is right – his mother will go after him one way or another. Consider how Fate works, Clementine’s move is going to be sudden and unexpected – for Blaise and for us, readers. Similar to Tracey’s injury at Hogsmeade, No one saw it coming. Maybe Ron will interfere and foil Clementine’s plans – whatever they are – and kill her in front of Blaise. And maybe then Blaise will know Ron more closely, and will began to be more involved in his shadow dealings.

Recently re-reading Fate from the beginning, I’ve noticed hints of Blaise’s attraction to Pansy as early as chapter 11. He was jealous that Pansy fancied Draco, and even clueless Ron noticed it back then. Not to mention one of the visions showed Pansy being pregnant with Blaise’s child. The one when Violet kills her that is. And now Blaise is living in her house, called her out on her faults, set her straight to be better, and comforted her after the whole scene. It’s strongly hinted that these two are going to be a couple. Especially consider that Pansy is starting to lose interest in Neville. Despite his niceness, his indecisiveness is holds him back.

Ron’s reaction to Pansy’s cheating is going to be horrible. Especially after previous chapter, where he appreciated Pansy so much for her victory. That would particularly hurt because in some ways it’s very similar to his fallout with Lord Greengrass – both times people that Ron loves and appreciates deceived him. Pansy”s “crime” is lot more innocent, so it’s unlikely Ron would be violent to her. Amusingly, as Blaise said, Daphne – the person who was cheated on in the first place – would probably get over it much easier then Ron.
hdhusky chapter 112 . 11/5/2024
So, this has been a fantastic read and a great story. I honestly only have one real complaint and that is Ron's character development. or the lack of it. I'm not saying that he doesn't learn lessons but those lessons are forgotten very quickly. I think this is a consequence of the slow burn. When 5 months is covered over 1M words, we get the feeling of a lot happening but hardly any time passes.

I think Ron is my least liked character out of everyone. I'm constantly telling myself that he is only 13 but the story is constantly stressing that the Entity has made hum grow up way too fast. He comes off as a man child that is able to get away with his actions because everyone is afraid to cause him stress. I've made it pretty far into this story but I think I'm going to stop here. I was really hoping for some improvement to Ron's character but he has only gotten worse. I just dont enjoy reading his POV anymore.

Review for chapter 154 part 5

Ron’s POV.
I like Ron’s new philosophy. Yes, people choose for themselves and you can’t force them to make choices that you like, but you can show them better choices and help them on their way. That’s so positive for Ron. Too bad, this philosophy of his probably won’t last long, and his controls freak tendencies will emerge once something goes not as planned.

Heart to heart talk with Snape.
Why does adults try to get Ron hooked on alcohol? First, Sebastian with his brandy, now Snape with his wine… Oh, well.

Snape confessed to Ron about his past, about his childhood in Hogwarts and enmity with Marauders. We know it all along from the original, but good to see it’s finally appear in Fate too.

Okay, I have a problem with Werewolf incident in Snape’s story. I have it in canon too. In both, Snape and Remus claim Sirius “sent” Snape to Shrieking Shack to investigate Remus. Can you imagine how this scene went to make sense? How could Sirius “sent” Snape here? They were enemies, they clearly don’t trust each other, and Sirius didn’t have any authority to command Snape in any way. Snape choose to follow Remus to Shrieking Shack on his own. Sirius might gave him a little push, and told him a way how to bypass Whomping Wollow – which is by all means was stupid of him. But this is it. Sirius might be extremely stupid and reckless in this situation, but the whole thing can’t be possibly blamed on him. Not to mention, Snape must have broke at least two school rules to get in the tunnel and be in danger of Remus – firstly, he have to snack from the castle past curfew, and secondly he had to approach the Willow, which we knew from canon was forbidden by the school. It’s interesting that for how long I read fanfiction, no one ever held Snape accountable for his bad choices in this incident.

It’s interesting that Snape knows he’s unfair to Harry and don’t deserved Snape’s mistreatment. But he just can’t help himself. It’s wonderful that Ron can reasonably advocate that Sirius,Remus and even James Potter have changed from their teenage years, they moved on and become better people. Ron even explains it, while still being compassionate and supportive to Snape at the same time! He even defends Harry and urges Snape to be better, because Ron knows he can be better. Damn, Ron can be so sweet at times! The words he told to Snape – how he respects and admires him for his selfishness, bravery and heroism… Snape definitely needed to hear it. He needed such love and friendship for so long! I can hardly put it into words how great Ron’s support was there! The scene was so beautiful! Snape probably, will never admit it, even to himself, but this was one of the best moments of his life! Maybe he’ll follow Ron’s advice and finally let go of at least some of his bitterness.

Emilia’s POV.
They received a letter from Luka Yahontov and a Portkey to Russia. The operation to extract Alexei is going to start soon.

Emilia prepared for her leaving, and instructed her mercenaries to follow Ron in case of her death. That’s sounds grim. I mean, yes it make sense to be prepared for your death at the times of war, but still it’s such a dark thought. Also, heartwarming that she’s going to entrust everything to Ron. It’s so endearing.

Artyom is trying to take care of Ron as always, and even instructed London to keep Ron from potions.

Portkey transported them to Russia. They were greeted by Andrey Tigrov – a fellow from chapter 121, an Animagus Auror of Yahontov’s squad.

Turns out that Lord Volkov kidnapped Samara’s son and have him a hostage to control the Minster. So Luka and his Mrakogubci with Emilia’s and Artyom’s help are going to storm his manor in two days to save Alexei. We also learned that Volkov considered to be the most powerful man in Magical Russia, so his manor is going to be highly fortified. This is going to be good! Emilia always has the most action-packed adventures! Too bad Ron is not going to miss the fight!

The fact that Rodolphus Lestrange is hosted by Volkov means, that he already aware of Voldemort’s return and most likely pledge his allegiance to him. Which also means that upcoming operation is not only to secure Samara’s loyalty through her son, but also a strike against Voldemort’s supporter. Possibly the most powerful of Voldemort’s current supporters

Ron’s POV.
Death’s Hand’s mercenary drills turns out to be physical obstacle course that one need to complete. Artyom designed it himself and it’s so severe, even Ron had trouble to finish it! Ron, of all people, the training geek and fitness monster! Had trouble to finish it! He was regularly doing Auror circuit training for almost a year now, and still he barely completed the course and was fully exhausted by the end! And several Death’s Hand mercenaries even outpaced him, and some of them even went for a second round! Damn, these people are beasts! At least they are doing this course only once a week. If they were doing it everyday they would be real monsters!

Knowing Ron, I bet he’ll tackle this obstacle course with everything that he has, and by the end of summer he’s going to complete two full rounds of the course every day, and condescendingly call his mercenaries lazy for doing only one course per week, lol.

By the way, when Ron started circuit training with Madam Roberts, she would always heal him after exercising so his muscles recover faster. Ron himself could not have done that, because Episkey as his best healing spell, but now he has Golden Hand. So he can complete his trainings and heal himself to grow stronger at faster rates now! Maybe he’ll also learn some martial arts from his mercs – back in the day, Madam Roberts floored Cutis Terra Ron with her Thai Boxing skills alone!

In Artyom’s absence London is going to become Ron’s mercenary companion. I like her attitude. I like Artyom more, but she’s growing on me quickly. Would be interesting to see her interacting with Emilia. Hope we’ll see a lot more of her. Maybe she’ll be more involved in Ron’s dealings. And maybe she’ll even learn about Voldemort’s return before it become official.

London gave Ron a good pep-talk and showed more understanding of his situation then his family ever could. This is heartwarming, but also sad. And it’s once again showed that RavenclawRon was right advising Ron to move out the Burrow, separating from his family. I still have some hope Ron will reconcile with his family, but this time it had to be Weasleys who would change for him, not Ron making amends, again.

Dumbledore snack into Ron’s house to take care of him! He’s cooking in a pink apron! Oh my God, I can’t with this guy! Hahaha! He’s doing the most unthinkable things and enjoying blowing everyone’s minds and I love him for that! Never change, Dumbledore! I mean, be better at making war against Voldemort, but aside from that – never change! We need such Craziness from authority figures!

Ron’s rant to Dumbledore was tremendous! I almost felt his catharsis when he finished. That was a little out of line for Ron to bring up Arianna, but he apologized for it. And his explanation why he fight with his family so much was reasonable. They didn’t see what he saw, didn’t truly experienced war and it’s horrors, so they naturally cannot understand Ron who’s living in it. If I have one criticism of Ron, it is that he does not make his message clear to them. He’s frustrated with their laziness as he puts it, and he’s not shy to tell them that, but he never tells them why. He never yells them his concerns that they are in actual danger and any moment they can be attacked and killed. It’s obvious for him, but not for them. I hope, one day Ron will outright tell them what he wants from his family, and why. Because so far he didn’t. How can they understand him, if he does not tell them? He can fait until they figure it out on their own, but wouldn’t it be better to just tell them? They most likely won’t follow his guidance, but at very least Ron could say he tried his best.

The Bulgaria Gala is coming next chapter, and Dumbledore wants to look at Americans’ files that Ron have on the guests. To know the crimes of “esteemed” Lords and Ladies of Europe. Few of them we already know. Why I’m not surprised to see Rask, Waldvogel, Agapov and Sokolov there? Ron us so impatient to kill them. So bloodthirsty. Thiugh, even Dumbledore agrees that they have to be dealt with, even if he’s less happy about whole killing thing.
Minatom chapter 154 . 10/30/2024
Review for chapter 154 part 4

Pansy’s POV.
Pansy is preparing for her first meeting with Ron’s Alliance as Lady Parkinson. And she deliberately choose to wear most extravagant clothes – Goth – to challenge their outdated views. Oh, boy. I’m glad that Pansy is having a time of her life, but deliberately antagonizing some of the most powerful people in Britain just for fun of it…. She thinks she’s Ron and can break stereotypes and expectations as she wants… But Ron most of the times do have a very clear goal in his mind when he’s going so. Sometimes he’s doing things like this as a tactic to rail up his opponents. He also sometimes do it for fun, but he knows when he can allow it for himself, and he can fight back if something go wrong. Pansy is none of it. She’s going it for fun, and self-indulgence. She enjoys her freedom from her parents, but don’t realize how detrimental he actions are. And she’s not ready to actually fight for it. She’s not ready that challenge. Pansy thinks that with her parents gone, she was all the cards and can do whatever she wants. That’s going to backfire big time.

Funny how all it took to make first years to train was mentioning Ron. His authority among the first years is absolute and can’t be challenged! He’s totally their whisperer. And Daphne is so jealous and bitter about it.

Pansy might be right that Ron loves his principles more than he loves Cobras now. Still, it’s a shitty thing for her to say consider how much he gave and helped them all without getting anything in return. Also, she does not even know the reason why Ron angry at Lord Greengrass. She can’t even imagine he’s very much justified.

I find it ironic that Daphne admires Pansy because she think Pansy knows who she is and what she wants, unlike herself. Well, I’m of opposed opinion. Pansy is confused. She was oppressed by her parents for so long, and finally got her freedom. And she does not know what she wants. She just enjoys her freedom and having a taste of everything, trying to actually figure out who she is and what she wants. It just her extravagant behavior makes her seem to be confident in her ways.

Pansy and Samantha interaction. It’s cute that Sammy tried to warn Pansy about upcoming judgment from Pure-Blood Lords and Ladies about her choice of clothes. And she correctly pointed out that Pansy is a girl that plays at adult table. Just because she’s in charge of Parkinson family now, does not make her mature or worthy. She’s not Ron. Frankly speaking Pansy is way over her head with that attitude of her. While exercising your freedom is a good thing in general, and I’m happy for Pansy feeling good about herself. There are still some society rules that to be followed. Students at Hogwarts wear uniforms, for example. And in a formal meeting of such powerful people it would make sense to wear something appropriate. For Pansy it’s all just a game.

I’m curious on Sammy’s take on unfair treatment of the women. I mean, we already saw that Yaxley wanted to take her “under his wing” so to speak. And that in many Pure-Blood families women are conditioned to be submissive to their husbands. That part is pretty clear. However, what about working twice as hard and get half respect? Is it about Ron, being younger, but earning much more respect than all Triumvirate girls combined?

As Samantha predicted, Mary was shocked by Pansy’s clothes and totally disapproves. She even reminded Pansy that she invited her at the meeting on her request, and now Pansy’s bad impression will reflect poorly on her. At least that made Pansy felt a little guilty.

Sirius on the other hand, have a good laugh at it. But even he understands that Pansy’s clothes and attitude will rub wrong on other Lords and Ladies. He just going to enjoy the show. Can’t blame him for that, lol.

Speaking about Sirius, he was pretty insensitive to the death of Samantha’s parents. He was not wrong in his accusations, but still it was not nice to say it in Sammy’;s face. A little tact here, Sirius? Please?

The Alliance meeting.
Ron is a little shit, making everyone waiting for him, and I like it. Seems to be hypocritical of me to support Ron’s inappropriate behavior, and criticize Pansy’s at the same time, but I see a difference here. Firstly, Ron is in control on the thing and can allow himself such behavior. He is an important person, and they do need him. Pansy is not, she treats it as a game. Secondly, making everyone wait for him is a calculated power-play on his part. He makes his Alliance know that they are here for him, not the other way around.

If I remember correctly, it’s the first time we see Ogden, Abbotts and Macmillans on Alliance meeting. They were present during the initial establishment of the camps, when they were confronted by Amelia Bones. But this is the first time they are on an official meeting.

Yeah. Without Ron leading and moderating them, his Alliance is showing their true colors. In all honesty, I’m a little disappointed, that so many of them are so self-serving and – how Emilia would say it – greedy. I expected them to be better actually. They are certainly better and more noble than Yaxley and his Death Eaters ilk, but it’s not a high bar to pass. Yes, there is Sirius who is probably the most noble of them all, actually wants to help people without any thought of his own profit. Fawleys are also a good and noble. They do want to get some benefit for their actions, but for them it’s secondary – they too genuinely want to help people and get some recognition for it. Mary seems to be benevolent as well, but… recently I start to have doubts how genuine she is. After all, she taught Daphne to be a perfect Lady, she is charming and very good at convincing people of her genuinity. But in the light of recent events, I have my doubts. Maybe she’s feeling guilty, or maybe she’s just playing a role of benevolence.

Interestingly, that Ogden seems to know something about Sebastian and Centaurs, as he doubted that Greengrass would help them out of goodness of his heart. Tiberius probably don’t know about Sebastian’s murder of children. Otherwise I don’t see him agreeing to ally with such a man. But I think he knows that Sebastian had a great disdain and quarrel with Centaurs in the past.

Ron made an entrance. Not as grand as Thor entrances, but still amusing. He instantly recovered at seeing Pansy at the meeting, since he didn’t know she was coming. Damn, he become so good at this.

Damn. Augusta Longbottom was so harsh on Pansy and Samantha. I knew she was disapproving of Neville having relationships with Pansy but to insult her so blatantly… Just wow! She never minced her words, but it’s the first time on my memory she was so venomous. I also find it interesting that Ron supported Pansy, when she retaliated with a cocky attitude at Augusta. Months ago, when Augusta and Muriel criticized Bill’s ponytail and he gave them cocky attitude, Ron manhandled his brothers, and threaten him not to ruin his alliance. Now Pansy is doing the same, and he supports her. Is that because Pansy exceed his expectations at Dueling tournament, or because Ron loss a lot of respect for his Alliance?

Mary spoke on Pansy’s and Samantha’s behalf and majority at the meeting supported the idea to lock past the girls’ families crimes and give them a fair chance.

I like how quickly Ron took charge of the meeting. And man. He did it so masterfully! They have their doubts for continuing their support of the camps, because they were losing money with no profit in sight. And Ron turned it all around in one simple elegant move – free advertising of their products in his growing magazine! Not these Lords and Ladies will continue to help people in the camps, but turning their advertisement to Ron instead of Daily Prophet they cut a solid amount of income from Ron’s rival. And Ron even convinced them all – that it’s in their best interests! But continuing their support of the camps and get free advertisement from Ron, they would be praised as heroes of people and save themselves a lot of money! Such an elegant and brilliant move! Well done, Ron! You have become so good at this! I want to see Barnabass Cuffe’s reaction when he lose half of his most paying patrons, and see their commercial in Quibbler the next day!I also like that almost everyone are on board with Ron’s plan to sink Daily Prophet. Even Macmillan almost agreed.

Pansy has at least some sense and she too jumped at the opportunity to get Ron advertise Parkinson brand. Samantha was silent, though. I would thought she’d also jumped at the opportunity. Is her disdain for Ron is so great it blinds her to the opportunity?

I like how Sirius was the one to turn everyone’s attention from making money and starving competitions, to an actual problem – Knockturn Alley. Ministry with Amelia at it’s head are still stonewalling them from rebuilding the Alley. It’s exciting to have such a conflict between factions that both can be considered good guys of the story. Makes it feel so real, and immersive! And it’s also kinda annoying – in a good way – that both parties can’t get along and solve the actual problem, instead of wrestling for power and influence. Now, Ron making his allies in Wizengamot pressure Bones to solve Knockturn Alley problem, knowing that she would need to either take Harper’s money to do it or allow Ron’s Alliance to do it.

Goblins involvement was discussed, and it was interesting to see Alliance perspective on them. Muriel – and surprisingly Augusta – were vehemently against to share with Goblins. Previously they were very strict supporters of the Old Ways, but now they sound almost like Blood-Supremacists. Which is surprising, coming from Augusta – she was more open-minded in the past. She was good to the Muggle-borns, never showed disdain for Muggles, and even opened Ron’s eyes on Werewolves’ problem. Tiberius Ogden on the other hand is more reasonable and open-minded. He understands that they should not make enemies with the Goblins and would be better, if they make a deal with them on their own terms.

Ron openly admitted that, if Goblins decide to cross him, he’ll kill them. And funnily enough, no one at the table actually took that threat seriously. I mean, non of them knows that Ron already killed people – Sebastian knows that Ron massacred Pure-Bloods at Carrows’ party, but he’s not at the meeting. Oh, if only they knew… Sad thing is, that Ron most likely will follow through with his threats.

After the meeting.
Even though Sirius clearly didn’t took Ron’s threat seriously, was appalled by his behavior. Mary was trying to explain that it was Ron’s way to lay down the law. I wonder what she would said, if she knew Ron body count? Would she still be as supportive of his style.

Good to see Pansy realizing how much out of her water is she. Finally, she understands how silly Slytherin House Politics compare to the real one. They are kids trying to play grown-ups. Couldn’t say it better. And finally she appreciate how much Ron outgrow them all, if he not only participate in such high level policy, but actually leading the thing and calling shots. I wonder, did Samantha come to the same realization, and now understands how insignificant her Triumvirate position was? Such realization could become a tiny step towards the reconciliation between Ron and the girls.

Ron officially broke relationships with Mary, because she can tolerate her husbands crimes against Centaurs. Mary took graciously, even if she was hurt. Her Lady manners are immaculate.

I’m so delighted Ron finally acknowledged Sirius goodness and strength of the character! Despite everything that happened to him, Sirius remind a good person, willing to help these in need, and never asked anything in return. Surely, he may be hot-tempered, reckless and sometimes unreliable – these are definitely his flaws. But I still love to see him be on the side of goodness, and still trying to reach out to Ron whenever he needs, and always having his back. Finally, Ron appreciate it in Sirius. I’m glad Sirius tried to mend Ron’s relationships with his family, but was respectful enough to accept Ron’s decision.

Mutual support between Ron and Pansy was cute and adorable! Pansy feels better than ever in her life, and Ron is there respecting her for standing up for herself, and contributing to collective good. He said her so many sweet things, truly appreciating her. And at the end he dropped the Tournament winning bomb, how much he mistaken thinking Pansy could never pull it off, and how proud he is to be proven wrong. That was such a gut punch to Pansy! I just love how her reckless cheating is coming back to bite her. Not that I enjoy her suffering, but it’s such amazing display of consequences for such actions! She cheated to win and make herself feel better, but only did worse. Such poetic justice and a good life lesson. That’s going to turn bad, when Ron learns Pansy cheated.

Review for chapter 154 part 3

Amelia Bones’s POV.
Council meeting with Crouch and Moody. I like so much these fic’s sections with planning, and politicking parts. Be it Ministry, Death Eaters, Order, Ron’s Alliance and etc. One of the best parts.

Victor Burke continue to terrorize the camps, casting Compulsion charm on his poor victims. It seems like the destruction of his body and near death experience completely wracked his mind. It’s one thing to kidnap children to posses them. As horrible as it is, at least there is some sense and logical in these actions – to get a physical body, even temporary. But casting Compulsion charms to innocent people to hurt themselves in mist degenerate ways… that’s just insanity! If Victor is so deranged with splitting his soul just once and experiencing one near death experience for a few month, it’s no wonder Voldemort is such a psycho with seven Horcruxes and a decade without a body. Not to mention his concoction of Cursed Unicorn blood. Now, I want to see Voldemort before his fall, when he was not so damaged. How much adequate he was back then.

I’m also terrified of a moment when Ron will learn that it was Victor behind all these attacks. He become this unhinged because of the loss of his body, which happened because Ron destroyed it. So Ron indirectly responsible to Victor’s going mad and killing all these people. Similar situation as to one when Ron sold Basilsk venom and was indirectly responsible for Voldemort crafting his more powerful body and enhancing bodies of his Loyalists. It seems like Ron is Cursed to have all of his decisions to bite him back in the arse. That being said, it’s also interesting that his morally ambiguous decisions backfired like this. I mean, he sold illegal Basilisk venom on black market. Yes, he used the money for a good cause, but still it was a very anti-hero act – do bad thing to achieve a good one. And the result turn out to be bad. He also murdered Victor, because he was an evil man who can’t be imprisoned lawfully and was going to continue to do evil things. Yet, the destruction of Victor’s body only lead to more victims.

Though it can’t be said that only Ron’s morally ambiguous decisions backfired. His work for Mungo’s funding and improving British-French relationships was purely noble and good, yet still resulted in Abadie’s attempt to seize control over British Ministry.

Alastor openly admitted his Aurors can’t do anything to stop Victor’s murders and don’t even know where to start investigations. Well, as Crouch pointed out – only Auror Rookies are patrolling the camps. They definitely not experienced enough for this. And all the senior Aurors are tasked with dealing with dementors, escapees and Loyalists. But there is no success on thse fronts either. I would say, DMLE probably should have concentrating on the murderer in camps. They have no progress with other cases, but with Victor, they at least know the murderer’s areal of operations. Maybe if Moody himself patrolled the area he could have spotted Victor with his Magical Eye. Though, Auror Force of British Minstry is probably all time low – four Rookies, including Tonks, five Hit-wizards, including Madam Roberts, Gawain, Tiberius, Kingsley and Alastor himself. Thirteen total. This is just sad.

Moody advocates to take Harper’s offer of five million galleon and Auror squads. He also wants to speed up Auror training program. I wonder how he’s going to do this. Hope, his idea is better then the one was implemented in the first war, when Auror training was cut to just one year instead of three, to have more raw and half-trained recruits to throw in the field. Moody seems to be smarter than this. If I’d to guess, he would want to start preparing Aurors right at Hogwarts. I mean, at Job consultations in 5th year, students learn when subjects they would need for a profession and than they take appropriate NEWTs classes in 6th and 7th year, according to their future profession. So, if a student achieve enough OWLs and choose the right subjects in their senior years, they can also be professionally trained as Aururs after classes. Sort of like students that helps Pomfrey at Hospital Wing, are preparing to become Healers. This way students would have completed first two years of Auror training program while still at school, and finish their third one just one year after graduation. It’s still not perfect, but they would be better prepared that poor recruits in the first war.

Crouch too advocates to take Harper’s offer. Like Amelia he too understands that Harper didn’t make this offer just out of goodness of his heart, but because he has plans for Magical Britain, and it’s his way to establish a foothold in the country. And he knows that they know it. What both parties do not know, is that American Aurors commanders are in a conspiracy with Ron, who won’t let Americans to usurp Britain. So it’s much safer for Amelia to take this offer than she thinks. Not that Ron can tell her that.

Speaking of which. I like that Moody asked if Ron and his Alliance made any offers of their own. Despite what Ron’s family thinks, actual politicians do understand how powerful and important Ron become. And even they underestimate him.

Even though no offer was made, Amelia is adamant not to take any from Ron’s Alliance. She does consider to take Harper’s offer, but completely refuse even consider of taking a hypothetical one from Rom’s Alliance. She does have a point that Ron’s Allaince Pure-bloods would pursue their own interests first and not be all that benevolent. But I have to point out that they are much better than Death Eater Pure-Bloods. As self-serving Ron’s Alliance members are, they are no evil murders as Death Eaters. And they also are not foreigners like Americans. One could even argue that securing aid from Ron’s Alliance is a safer option – better the devil you know, as they say. Death Eater Pure-bloods are obviously evil and enemies, Americans pursue their own interests, but Ron’s Alliance are native British, who are not in the bed with Voldemort. Surely, they would seek ways to benefit themselves, but they also are enemies of Voldemort and Death Eaters, and they would benefit of more secured and prosperous Britain. Amelia knows their ambitions, and can find a way to deal with them. Americans ambitions are unclear, and she’s not familiar with them. Whatever agenda they are cooking, she don’t see it coming and can’t prepare for it. The fact that she’s still willing to risk it all, instead of putting her rust in Ron’s Alliance is very telling.

What the f… Crouch was thinking proposing to tax Goblins? The idea may have some merit in general but in their situation – economical crisis, lack of manpower and spread of crime, taxing Goblins who hold Wizarding Britain economy by the throat is unbelievably dumb idea. It’s not just shooting yourself in the leg, it’s completely blowing them off!

Surprisingly, it’s Moody – who is not a politician – who calls them out on their foolishness, and proposes much more reasonable plan of action. Take Harper’s offer – yes, it’s the devil’s deal – fund DMLE more, rebuild Knockturn Alley, and give her residents jobs. That’s the most solid idea during the whole meeting. Not without downsides – taking Harper’s offer would place Amelia into dependence. But Ron already probed to Albus that inaction is worse. Even if there are bad consequences it’s still better to do something to fix it, then let things be.

Interesting to see the difference of Amelia’s and Barty’s views on Azkaban. Crouch wants to spend money to fortify the prison, make it more formidable, an actual fortress. Which make sense, consider recent escape. Amelia on the other hand wants to reform it altogether. There still will be dementors there – because frankly, they can’t destroy them, so they are have to be contain somewhere. But the institution would be change to try to actually reform prisoners. How will it work will see later, but it’s noble goal nevertheless. As bad as Loyalists were, their treatment in Azkaban was inhumane. They were outright tortured, and not only by dementors presence. As bad people as they are, torture should be a forbidden practice. Especially consider that most Azkaban inhabitants are not Death Eater Loyalists. So Amelia aims for more progress and reforms that we long overdue. Very noble of her. It’s interesting how Amelia and Crouch get along so well, consider the difference in their views.

Amelia appoints Barty as a new Head of DMLE without giving him heads up. It was kinda a dick move, which Barty himself pointed out. Amelia may be a Minister and have no need to discuss anything with Crouch about her decisions, but making such considerable changes without warning and consideration is just bad people managing. Barty might get along with it for now, but Amelia could have handled it better. I guess she wanted to make some power-play and make Barty submit to her authority, and Crouch may even appreciate her strong position. But still it was dickish of her. Ron already made a comparison of DMLE and International Department in the beginning of the year – DMLE looks like an unorganized mess, while International Department is extremely strict, disciplined and ordered. Crouch put a lot of effort to make his Department a well-oiled machine, and now he’s tasked with running the Department that is at it’s lowest. And the icing on the cake – Amelia haven’t told him about Voldemort’s return. So Barty is going to sign up to confronting Voldemort again, without even knowing it. Bad managing, Bones. Well, at least she buttered him up a little by pointing out how competent he is, and how Fudge was afraid of him.

Speaking of Fudge – Aurors still didn’t have any leads on him. Solomon leaves no traces. He’s actually one of the most competent allies Ron have, though not the most trust-worthy. He tracked Ajax before Death Eaters could. Aurors didn’t tracked him at all. And he get to Fudge before anyone else could and gave him to Ron. With Solomon, Emilia and Death’s Hand, Ron could have been much more efficient at keeping peace then Aurors themselves.

Pius Thicknesse is appointed as a new Head of International Department instead of Crouch. And he’s still under Yaxley’s Imperius Curse, and he’s going to oversee upcoming Triwizard Tournament. This is not good. Also, who is going to replace Pius as the head of Magical Creatures Department? Maybe Amos Diggory?

Dumbledore seems not to trust Crouch and he wants too keep him in dark about Voldemort’s return as long as possible. That does not sit well with me. Crouch was brutal in the first war, too brutal and maybe even short-sighted sometimes. But he was efficient. Also, he’s one of the few who definitely has guts to fight and competence. He needs to be brought to the fold.

I partly agree and partly disagree with Amelia about Dumbledore. Surely, the man does act like he knows better everyone. But it’s because most of the times it’s true. I also do not understand Amelia’s claim that people die, if they’ll be acting at Dumbledore’s orders. Honey, with Voldemort out there lots of people will die anyway!
You criticize Dumbledore for undermining the Ministry… your Ministry was corrupt long before Dumbledore come about. Albus was trying to warn the Ministry that Voldemort is not dead, and Aurors should continue to search for him, but nobody listened. Also, Fudge was Lucius Malfoy’s puppet, so it’s only natural that Dumbledore do not trust Minstry and “undermine Ministers”. Did I need to mention how many people Yaxley bribed during Veelas incident? How many of them were on Corban’s regular payroll? Or Bulstrode’s bribes? Or Malfoy”s? Or Greengrass’? Blaming Dumbledore for not trusting clearly untrustworthy Ministry is asinine!

Dumbledore did make mistakes, no doubt, but he – and Ron – are the greatest force for good in the whole Wizarding World, however flawed he is. Instead of confronting him, it would be better to work together. It’s ironic that Amelia points out how Dumbledore is flawed, thinks he knows the best and his mistakes cost lives, while thinking that she knows better, and making a mistake by dividing them.

Amelia made an ultimatum too Moody – be her man, or be Dumbledore’s. I imagine Moody would sway towards Dumbledore side. They are friends, and more then once Moody voiced his disdain for the Ministry. But who this would leave in charge of Aurors?

Bones is still not willing to take Harper’s offer if she could help it. Instead she aims to get aid from fellow European Minsters at the Gala. I hope, she’ll succeed – Harper’s offer is a poisoned gift (not so much with Ron in charge of American Aurors). Britain gave the most recourses during the Gaia project, and Dumbledore – a British citizen – was the one who negotiated a peaceful solution with Muggles. That should count for something to European Minsters. Maybe. Though, British are not looking good going at this Gala. Almost like beggars (which they naturally are). Samara is totally not going to help, as she’s in Voldemort’s pocket. But maybe French and some other Ministers are.

Review for chapter 154 part 2

I’ve noticed that Ron Silenced his room, when he and Daphne got inside. Is it wrong that I’m glad Ron becoming more vigilant? I wonder does he Silenced his shoes like Artyom to walk without a sound? Such behavior would be odd for a civilian, let alone a teenager, but Ron is for all intentions and purposes is a child soldier. While the concept is awful in itself, there is no choice and no out of it. So being properly prepared to everything is the next best thing in his situation.

I loved Ron and Daphne’s confrontation about Lord Greengrass and Centaurs! Don’t get me wrong, it’s upsets me they are fighting again, but the tension, the drama is incredible! I also love Ron’s rants and monologues! They are so raw, so passionate and so genuine! They are filled with such conviction it’s contagious!

I also like how perceptive Ron had become, and instantly figured out that Lord Greengrass would not just confess to Daphne of his crimes out of blue. So Daphne only confirmed she eavesdropped him.

Ron’s position on difference between mistakes and bad choices is very interesting, and very neatly written. Even though Ron and Sebastian conflict upsets me, it can’t be helped – Ron’s position is very logical, even if harsh. Lord Greengrass committed a horrible crime for a profit. And he doesn’t even regret it, nit fully – he regrets being caught. He didn’t tried to make amends, before he was exposed, so his desire to fix the situation looks very self-serving.

Even though Ron claims he does not believe in redemptions and second chances, he actually does. He believes in Snape’s redemption. I mean, Ron knows that Snape was willing Death Eater and killed people. However, he trusts and respects Snape. And yes, there is a big difference between Snape and Greengrass – Severus genuinely regret what he had done and putting actual effort to amend what he can, save whom he can, and help whim he can. Sebastian is not. At least for now. That being said, I think Ron is more hurt Greengrass had lied to him, and successfully deceived Ron. For a time. I would say, betrayed trust hurts Ron much more than he despise an actual crime. It’s personal. That’s why Ron is so vehement on being harsh on Sebastian. Dumbledore and Snape were also not pleased when they learned about Sebastian’s crimes, but nevertheless they were more accepting of it. It was because they were not betrayed by that revelation, unlike Ron.

Still, I hope that one day Lord Greengrass will discover his better side, and redeem himself in some way. Considered how brutal is Fate, it most likely will be Death Equals Redemption – Darth Vader style of a situation. By now it’s hard to imagine any other way for Ron to “accepting” Sebastian’s redemption. Also, if Sebastian will die without getting his redemption – it’ll be extremely depressing and bitter punch to the gut. I guess I’m a sucker for happy endings.

Calling Daphne out on being a privileged, sheltered girl who thinks too much of herself was too much. At that situation. While, Ron was correct about his statement, it was a mistake on his part to say it. Or a bad choice, hehe. Throwing personal insults – however justified – is never going to strengthen one’s case. On a contrary, it triggered Daphne to be defensive and fire her own insults.

Dumbledore’s POV.
Daphne’s words cut Ron deeply, to a point he was has tear marks, when delivered Dumbledore a Portkey. Damn, two of Ron’s most important people in life gave him a harsh treatment in row. That ought to get him.

Fawkes called out Dumbledore on his manipulative nature. That’s probably the first time phoenix was displeased with Albus. Not so subtle hint that he’s doing something wrong. And even a Sorting Hat accuses Dumbledore of manipulating Ron.

Still, it’s hard to be angry at Dumbledore in this situation. Even though he does manipulate Ron, he clearly has good genuine intentions. He’s not manipulating him out of malice or self-benefit, he truly wishes the best for him.

Dumbledore’s talk with High Mother was amazing. It was funny to see someone talk down to Dumbledore, and treat him as a kid. High Mother made it seems like she truly cares for Ron and holds his best interests at heart, but I have my doubts. She rightfully called out Dumbledore on his decision to make Ron his soldier in a war, but it’s not like he did it willingly. Higher Beings put Ron into this position, and even if Dumbledore tried to sideline Ron from the warm Ron would eventually be involved into it, or the Cycle would reset. Albus had to choose between bad and worse. Frankly, he choose the best out of what he could.

Sometimes I don’t understand people in Fate. One moment High Mother flexes her errant magic and threatens Dumbledore with her Nundu, and next moment she admits that she could not stop Albus, he decided to force his way with his power. Then, why the f,,, you threaten him in the first place? It’s of course unlikely that Dumbledore will do something drastic, but why to antagonize the greatest wizard to his face?

Also, she way to self-righteous for someone who assassinated a lot of her political rivals for power. Say what you want about Ron or Dumbledore but they didn’t kill people because that was convenient.
Albus may hold back Ron from his ambitions, and try to nurture him to share his own views, but I would not trust High Mother at this point. She may have a point that Ron is different from Dumbledore and actually can handle power and ruling, unlike Albus. But I foresee her guidance will be flawed to say the least.

Ron’s POV.
Fate is always so ambiguous and I love it! Ron does need someone to be in his corner in all this, but why it have to be Ravenclaw!Ron? I still think he’s a bad influence, in terms of decision-making. An excellent private magic tutor, but awful adviser. Even, if he has a point – which he do, sometimes – he always suggest to do the worst thing possible.

I give it to RavenclawRon, he correctly identified a pattern in Ron and Daphne’s relationships. It can almost be called abusive and manipulative. But it’s hard to put abusive part on Daphne, consider how temperamental and occasionally violent Ron can be. And we know for a fact that Daphne does it not because she maliciously plan her acts. It’s more about immaturity then malice. Couples do fight, but Ron and Daphne has it more serious because they are not fighting over mundane things. The things kids of their age should not be dealing with. But here we are. Daphne may be wrong defending her father, but RavenclawRon’s “solution” won’t do any good.

Hate to admit it, but RavenclawRon made a few good points. Funny that his words that Ron deserve to be loved echoes High Mother’s words to Dumbledore that all children (including Ron) should be loved. And RavenclawRon correctly pointed out that Ron would feel better if he’ll associate with people who understand him (mostly) and respect him. I don’t see Ron and Emilia are becoming a couple, but in some ways she’s closer to Ron than Daphne. Emilia knows and accepts who Ron truly IS. Daphne does not even know the true Ron.

Honestly, I was hoping that as the war is coming along, Ron’s friends and family would get their… guts… together and BECOME people Ron can be more honest with and whom he can rely on. Maybe not on the same level as Emilia and Artyom, but still more on the same page. Yet, still they are stagnating, refusing to change, leaving Ron alone.

I still hope that at least some of his friends and family members will learn some truth about Ron, and will on his side. I would say Ron needs people who are less extreme and radical in his circle, but who still accepts him. He has Dumbledore, but Albus alone is not enough. I think Sirius could learn about Ron's dealings, yet still accept him, and make him lean towers more noble/less radical side.

Maybe it’s unfair to say, but if only people in Ron’s life pull their weight, and reached a bare minimum of Ron’s standards he would not be so… extreme and unhappy.

I don’t like that RavenclawRon gave Ron a good pep-talk, but at least it worked, and Ron’s head in the game again. Still, his advice to walk through people in Ron’s way… ugh. So far Ron was very accurate not to cause unnecessary casualties and strictly followed his Code. But agreeing with advices like this, Ron chip it away little by little, and I’m afraid over time, Rom may to a villain territory. He’s already walking dangerously close. The worst thing is that it seems RavenclawRon’s advices are tend to work, so Ron may become even more radical than he is now.

Bill become even more confrontational with Ron. And even Molly become colder and more indifferent. Well, it was ought to happen, sooner or later. One too many times Ron was rude and outright disrespectful to them. At some point their patience was overloaded. And I’m afraid that at this pace Ron may antagonize even more people with this attitude. He’s often rude to people because “it’s faster that way and I don’t have time for this”, or some other justification. He also likes to threaten people a lot, even his allies and friends. Just remember when he threw a chair at Snape. Even though, his intentions almost always are good and noble, his method of implicating his intentions is wrong.

Sometimes, I think Ron become way too much Slytherin – way to secretive, way too manipulative, way too cunning. Madam Pomfrey said a similar thing to him earlier in this chapter. And I wonder, would Ron have more success with his friends and family, if he was more honest? I mean, the whole second year Ron was trying to motivate Cobras to train, because Voldemort is still alive and the new war is coming. They were not listening. And after it was revealed that Voldemort returned, he was only occasionally pushed his friends to train, but didn’t said a single word to his family. And yet still, he constantly frustrated that Arthur not doing enough, drinking and not training. He’s of similar opinion of his brothers, though to a lesser degree. And the thing, I’ve noticed – despite being so disappointed and angry with their behavior… he never sincerely told them that. He never went to his father and said that he’s worried for his well being, that he can be killed in action, serving the Order, fighting Death Eaters. He never voiced that Arthur should train more to not get killed and leave Molly a widow and his children orphans. For some reason Ron believes that his conclusions and thoughts about this matter are obvious to everyone, and his family’s refusal to improve themselves is a personal slight at him.

So it’s official now – Ron moved out of the Burrow to a cottage in the Werewolf Sanctuary. Courtesy of Thaddeus. Werewolf Alpha was so happy to help Ron, he even gave him one of the best and largest cottages with a beautiful view on a Lake. Nice! Ron even liked it himself, and already have plans how to use his new residence.

I also liked how respectful Thaddeus was to Ron’s request. He give him a cottage, ask a reasonable question why Ron is moving out of his family house at such a young age, but did not push further, when Ron dodged a question, with his vague answer. Good to see for once Ron having a respectful, healthy relationship with someone. I’m not too happy that rift between Ron and his family become wider, but at very least Ron’s decision would give him some peace of mind. Frankly speaking Weasleys relationship had become quite toxic lately.

London is delighted with Ron moving so close to them. She’s really likes him, and even volunteered to design his interior. Another positive change in Ron’s life.
I starting to really like London. She reminds me of Tonks. Only older, a little more pragmatic and experienced, but still very positive and good-spirited.

Artyom, naturally, disapproves of Ron’s choice. He’s definitely advocates for Ron making up his relationships with his family, instead of moving out. Which means he truly cares for him. I mean, Artyom is extremely professional, and from professional point of view, it’s more beneficial to Death’s Hand for Ron to life so close to the squad. Yet, he disapproves of Ron actually moving in here. He wants the best for him, and from his point of view – the best is to be close to the family, to mend their relationships. Obviously, it’s his own trauma speaking. He did lost his family to Death Eaters. It’s only natural he would advocate for sticking to one for Ron.

Still, even if he disapproves, he accepts Ron’s decision without much of an argument and deals with it. Once again RavenclawRon proved to be right about his assessment. At the Sanctuary, among the mercenaries and werewolves, Ron is more respected and accepted than at the Burrow. At least no one gives him headache by constantly nagging and arguing with him.

Ha! Artyom arguing to bring black curtains to the windows “for safety ”. It’s such Moody vigilance here!

Review for chapter 154 part 1
Ron’s POV
With Madam Pomfrey.
I’m glad that Madam Pomfrey called Ron out on his brutality during the Dueling Tournament. Also, his excuses are truly weak – he didn’t just his opponents because it was an easier way to win – he hurt them because he wanted too. Actually it’s the opposite – he could have won quicker and easier, if he didn’t spent extra time dealing additional damage to his opponents, instead of stunning them. This behavior was not rational or calculated, he just wanted to even more secure his dominance among the Hogwarts’ students. That’s also explains why he brought mercenaries to school – to flex his power. Almost childish behavior.

I can understand Ron’s frustration with other contenders. I mean, he literally participation in war, while others are just consider the tournament as a sport competition. The problem is – it IS sport competition, and it was Ron who overdo the brutality. He brought a gun to a boxing match, in Muggle terms!

Though, I do agree that the students should toughten up a little bit more for the upcoming war, Ron’s way of doing it… is a little too much. Maybe in the next school year, when Durmstrang delegation will come to Hogwarts, British will adapt their Martial trainings classes. Also, in more adjusted form – without a psycho like Kemppainen that abuses students and animal cruelty.

While technically Ron is right and all the damage he caused can be easily fixed with magic, this justification for extra brutality in a sport competition is very flimcy in my book. More than once Professors – and Remus in particular – made it clear that they do NOT ap[prove of his excessive brutaliry in a sport competition. Itw as Ron who consider these duels something else in his mind. Also, sometimes, Remus was extra cautious and critical of Ron in earlier stages of the tournament, he was correct about Ron overdoing it in the finals. If anything, Remus played favorites with Ron by NOT disqualifying him before the final match.

Good to see Pomfrey’s perspective on Charlie’s situation. Ron schemed behind Charlie’s back to get him a job he wanted, but could not get himself. As Pomfrey pointed out, Ron didn’t thought what would happen when the truth will come out – and it will eventually come out. I think several months from now, Ron will tell Charlie about it himself. Charlie would be pissed of course, and they would have another family fight. But by this point, Charlie would be too used to be a Dragon-Tamer at Longbottom’s reserve he would keep the job.

Pomfrey finally had enough of Ron’s dodging his problems and openly ranted about them all. What I love about Fate – there is no absolutely right position. Yes, Pomfrey correctly pointed out that Ron’s behavior pushed his dear people away, and yet they get along well between themselves. So yes, Ron’s problem with people is HIS problem, not theirs. However, at the same time Ron is justified in his obsession with competence – he knows that Voldemort is going to end all life on the planet and eventually in the universe. Dark Lord had to be stopped. The effort and competence required to do this has to be at maximum. So when people fail to do this, Ron understandably frustrated and lashes out. Surely, he could have handled things better, control his temper better, not give in into his bad urges to blow some steam… But the point still stands – he have to be this obsessed with competence. And his obsession with control streams from being the Champion. He’s basically the slave of Entity and Higher Beings, and he tries to compensate his lack of control over his own fate, by controlling others. For a person who don’t know what position Ron is in, his behavior seems to be unreasonable and problematic. And I wonder how Pomfrey would reacted and what she would advised, if she knew the truth.

Also, while Pomfrey criticize Ron’s scheming behind people’s backs, and disrespecting their wishes, does she know that Dumbledore is just as manipulative and scheming as Ron is, but just more experienced and subtle?

With Dumbledore.
For a moment I thought Ron did told Pomfrey his secret. Or at least watered down version of it. Like Emilia, Artyom, Reyes and Jeremiah. While, it didn’t happened now, I have a feeling that one day Ron will reveal something to her. In was foreshadowed for some time that Pomfrey knows Ron do not tell her everything, and thus she can’t help Ron with his problems, if she don’t know what they are. Of course, at first Poppy would need some time for herself to deal with these revelations. But when she get better, I believe Poppy will be able to greatly help Ron.

Curiously, Dumbledore disapproves with Ron’s sharing even parts of truth with other people. He don’t want Pomfrey to know it, and he regret Ron sharing it with High Mother, Reyes and Jeremiah. Even though Albus is Big Good of the series, Aberforth is right about one thing about his brother – he likes to keep his secrets to himself, to be the one with all answers, while keeping others in the dark. So manipulative.

Dumbledore admits that even he can’t resist Voldemort’s Legilimency! That’s huge! Snape was able to successfully protect his minds against Voldemort, even while being tortured! That officially makes Snape the best Occlumens ever! Not counting Entity mind defense of course. Also, not only Snape is better Occlumens than Dumbledore, Grindelwald as well – in canon he was able to protect his mind from Voldemort too.

It’s interesting how Ron’s and Dumbledore’s perspective contrasts: Ron is set on destroying his enemies, and Dumbledore set on persevering life. Ron is willing to share his knowledge to get people on his side, Dumbledore insist to keep it. Ron is young, bold and impatient, Dumbledore old, cautious and patient. Both have good points about their methods and decisions. No matter what decision each one of them make in any giving moment it’ll always has it’s pros and cons – no perfect golden path to ideal happy ending.

I appreciate the effort Dumbledore takes to curb Ron’s blood-thirst, and appeal to his better nature. However, I can’t help but agree with Ron’s more extreme decisions sometimes – desperate times desperate means, and current times are the most desperate of all. Still think Dumbledore and Snape should have listened to Ron and figure out a way to kill Loyalists when they still were in Azkaban. Despite all of Dumbledore’s sweet words how violence breed more suffering, killing Loyalists would’ve saved so many lives.

Dumbledore’s decision to visit High Mother and talk about Ron – and war – was unexpected, but interesting. A new meeting of old aquintances is intriguing.

Dumbledore definitely has good intentions when he advised Ron to reconsider his relationships with his family, but I think he’s projecting. His and Ron’s situations are different – when Albus was dissatisfied with his family, he wanted to satisfy his vanity; Ron is genuinely worried about his family’s well-being in the war, and dissatisfied how lightly they treat it. Surely, Ron has control-freak problem about him, but I would say he’s more justified in his desires to “correct” behavior of his family. What makes the matter worse is that Ron, while being the second youngest member of the family, does know better. He knows and understands more about war than his family, but since he’s so young, they patronizingly ignore his directions.

Dumbledore could have actually helped Ron in this matter – he’s the leader of the Order, and Headmaster of Hogwarts. He could have organized mandatory trainings for Order members, and their children. That would relieve some worry from Ron, and would make his behavior slightly more justified in Weasleys’ eyes.

Daphne’s POV.
She – Daphne that is – had a funny and wholesome interaction with Bill and Molly at the Burrow. Always nice to see Molly fond off Daphne so much, she treats her like a daughter now. Even thought she lives simple, grounded to earth life, Molly do appreciate Daphne’s manners and politeness. Something that so much missing in Weasleys.

Bill show off his cooking skills. I bet Ron would have mentally complaining about his “perfect” older brother – tall, handsome, Head Boy, top student, Curse Breaker, casually learns French just for lulz and now even an awesome cook.

It’s funny to see Molly trying to convince Bill to find a young lady to settle down with, consider that it canon she was against Bill marrying Fleur. So Molly is only okay with Bill settling down with a girl she approved, but not anyone else. I wonder how Molly will react to Bill courting Fleur in Fate. After Veelas nearly killed Ron and later betrayed him, I would think she would be even more antagonistic towards that match. Also, I wonder will their age difference will be addressed? In canon Bill and Fleur started to see each other since summer 1995. Bill at the time was 25 and Fleur only 18. Legal, but barely. In Fate Fleur has already her eyes on Bill at 16, while Bill himself is 23.

Ron’s reaction to it will also be interesting – right now he despises Veelas, can barely tolerate them. Having a Veela sister-in-law is ought to frustrate him to no end. It would be funny to see him disliking Fleur along with Molly and Ginny. Some Weasley family bonding right here, lol.

The relationships between Ron and his family become even more strained than before. Bill openly badmouth Ron, and Molly does not even try to correct him. She even seems to dislike Ron herself. Going so far as even calling him “rotten”. This shocked me just as much as Daphne. Molly and Bill openly despise Ron to her face, not even trying to excuse themselves. This is actually makes me enraged! Surely, Ron acts like an arse quite often, but given how many people he had saved and helped in his very short life and tender age of 14; not to mention how much publicly known suffering he had endured – calling him “rotten” is disgusting! Shame on them! I would understand such comments from them, if they knew Ron is Birmingham Butcher or something similar, but no! To their current knowledge Ron hadn’t done anything particularly awful at this point, but have done extraordinarily good things at national and potentially even at global scale.

Also, maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t actually notice Ron actively doing anything antagonizing to Weasleys to deserve such scorn. I mean, even by Molly’s own admission, Ron mostly doing his things without interacting much with his family. He does not demand them to do something, to sacrifice something, or change their lifestyles or anything. I can imagine him throwing disappointed looks at his parents and siblings, and keeping his distance, but by now he’s way past the point to actively involving with them.

Daphne was rightfully shocked at how hostile the relationships with Ron and Weasleys are. Though, she didn’t internally jumped at Ron’s defense. I mean, I would not expect her to openly confront Molly and Bill, she would not want an unnecessary conflict, but still… she quite often jumps at Ron’s defense at least in her own mind. And now she didn’t.

Charlie and Kirsten moved out of the Burrow, and it seems they are finally started fix their problems. That’s good.
