He's drifting apart from Hermione, but it's not because of their incompatible personalities, it's because he's putting no effort into maintaining the relationship. He spends all his time alone and only interacts with Harry because they're in the same dorm room and because he's the tri-wizard champion and can open the Chamber of Secrets.

I'm not usually a fan of "mind palace occlumency", but at least here you're presenting it as a secret technique rather than the norm.

Uh... What? The book literally just said that the hand waving was actually pointless and the magic all goes through the wand; what do you mean "firing multiple spells at the same time, just from different parts of their body"?

[I continued after I pulled a book off of a shelf and opened it. "This is a perfect place to practice magic ...for you." I answered as I pulled a book off of the shelves and opened it.
"Why only for me?" Harry asked as he appeared in my line of sight again.

"Because these books are blank." I said as I looked up and met Harry's gaze.

He already acknowledged that this was a good place for Harry to practice, so why is he surprised he can read the books?
