14omega chapter 1 . 11/11/2024
I loved that first chapter. He conveys the hobbit's calm and the elf's imponence in the Silmarillion.

AurelionNoir chapter 5 . 3/10/2023
I'm sorry, but this isn't the elves of middle earth. :( You made them too human mentally - reminds me of ROP Galadriel. I'll sadly drop this here.
AurelionNoir chapter 3 . 3/10/2023
First of all, what an opening the first 2 chapters were! The terrible and beautiful might of the Elves in full display. But... I think it would've been better if the elves under Fingolfin were the only ones transported, no Gandalf (I'm sure he wasn't a part of the journey) and other maiars such as Sauron taking part. I know it would've been quite a boring story otherwise without any significant challenge for the elves, but there's just something... wrong.

Firstly, why was Jaecaerys, spawn of an incest be made King still? Don't they abhor that? And secondly, I think the sons of Feanor wouldn't bow and serve to one, especially a man spawned out of incest. Lastly, why did they try to help the Targaryens back in power? They have the might, and could've easily conquered/pacified the human kingdoms and make it their own vassals, replacing their primitive culture and religion with theirs.

if Durran is here does that mean Brandon the Builder as well, if I remember, the fates of House Stark and House Durrandon has always been intertwined since it was said, Duran had asked Brandon to build Storm's End or is it different truly.
RedHood001 chapter 9 . 4/15/2022
What a beautiful gem of a story and I'm shocked I've only just read it now. It's an amazing work of storytelling that brilliantly merges the lore of both Middle Earth and and A Song of Ice and Fire. I think the fact that you utilized the lore of the Silmarillion to show the history and the old tales first really cements how grand this whole thing is. You handled the characters beautifully and the worldbuilding is magnificent.

I know this story hasn't been updated in more than a year, but I just want you to know that it is a truly beautiful work of art. Very well done!

MLP-Trinary chapter 1 . 9/23/2021
Very interesting premise! I'll be looking forward to reading this one!

But I am a big confused at Fingolfin's titles. Because he was High King of the Ñoldor ... and just the Noldor alone. None of the other elven peoples listed owed him any fealty. Maybe you were trying to make it sound more analogous to the Kings of Westeros being kings of the Andals, First Men, and Rhoynar, but that wasn't the case for the Noldor High Kings. Forgive me if I get a bit pedantic, but it's only because I am really into this lore and love talking about it (as it's obvious you do as well).

Fingolfin and the other Noldor High Kings were nominally the leader of all the realms in Beleriand (and then later central Middle-Earth) that were populated or ruled by the Noldor (Gondolin, Nargothrond, Hithlum, Dorthonian, Himling, Lindon, Eregion, etc.) but he had no claim, and never tried to claim, the rule of all of Beleriand and all its elves. They had their own king and he never tried to assert that he was their overlord.

There were three kindreds of elves: Minyar (later the Vanyar), Tatyar* (later the Noldor), and the Nelyar* (later the Lindar or Teleri) [*minus the members of those peoples who refused the Valar's summons to Valinor and became the Avari]. Ingwe was king of the Vanyar and High King over all the Elves in the world. Finwe was king of the Noldor and Fingolfin inherited his kingship after the death of Finwe, of Feanor and the abdication of Maedhros. The "High" part of his title is reflective that the Noldor had many different realms in Beleriand, all of whom had their own lords, but they all ultimately owed fealty to Fingolfin. But that was just for the Noldor.

Elwe (later called Elu Thingol) was king of the Teleri. Then the Teleri splintered into numerous sub-groups, with Thingol being king of the Sindarin Elves, the Teleri who made it to Beleriand but did not go across the sea to Valinor. When the Noldor arrived he allowed them to settle and establish realms that were mostly in places where the Sindar didn't live already anyway. Some of Feanor's sons bristled at this but that's par for the course, really. Point is: Thingol and the Sindar Elves were not subordinates of Fingolfin.

The Nandor Elves, led by Lenwe, never made it to Beleriand at all. A portion, arguably a majority, of the Nandor led by Denethor, Lenwe's son, did enter Beleriand much later on and became known as the Laiquendi. But they were still Teleri. Their king was Denethor and they responded to appeals from Thingol who was their kinsman, but to Fingolfin or any Noldor High King they owed no formal allegiance.

As for the Silvan Elves-they didn't exist yet at all. After the War of Wrath destroyed Beleriand at the end of the First Age, the Silvan Elves emerged as a blending or merging of the Nandor who stayed east of the Misty Mountains, the surviving Laiquendi who left the ruined Beleriand, some Avari elves, and some Sindarin elves looking to go back to nature, essentially. Silvan made up the bulk of the population of Lothlorien and the Woodland Realm, taking Sindarin as their lords, like Oropher and Thranduil. But they didn't exist as their own group yet and wouldn't until Beleriand's destruction.

TL;DR - the inclusion of various Teleri-derived elven peoples into Fingolfin's titles is inaccurate. Unless something really played out differently when the Noldor arrived here...but it's still a bit confusing whether or not the North IS Beleriand or some blending of the two.
