That is a good question, I've always lived smaller towns that have a board of selectmen. Archaic term as this point because plenty of women are know to run as well (these folks are elected and there are usually term limits but they aren't prohibited from running again or being seated for as long as they are re-elected. The city near me does have a city council with a mayor. But I have no clue if the Mayor is elected separately or if that person is voted upon by the council and becomes mayor that way.

But, if it is through election, I cannot imagine that there isn't a term limit to where when it is up there is another election and if you have to run for the office again.

Is there a new election every few years or does someone just stay mayor until they step down or someone challenges them? I won't get into the exact details, but Laura is currently mayor of Port Charles and according to Wiki she was sworn into office January 16, 2019. In the story's timeline it's April, 2020. If I want to do an election approx in fall of 2020, would someone have to challenge Laura or would she have to become ill or something? Because even here I think that would be too soon unless there were a reason (I hate politics, but it's something needed for the story lol)

Yes, if you lose an election you can run again as many times as you want. There may be some small town in some state somewhere that has different rules but I've never heard of one yet. Now, some states like Maine, set term limits for some things, like the Governor can hold the office for 2 consecutive 4 year terms. But, after leaving they can run again after being out of office for 4 years.

Question, in the US, if someone runs for mayor and loses an election, can they run another time or does that mean they’re out?

I was actually going to have Alexis get Carly's mind map originally, thought it would be funny, but then I thought two Carlys would be overwhelming lol. And I also thought of returning Helena from the dead. But I already have 3 people resurrected and she's risen from the dead countless times so I thought I'd get Valentin involved instead and go this route. This way I get to write Helena a little bit, love her as a villain.
I feel the same way about Jake and Danny :( that was the only thing sort of holding me back on changing Danny's paternity, but they can still be close. Because other than that I'm happy with making him Drew's lol.

What will Sonny do to get it back? I am looking forward to Sam and Julian trying to eradicate Helena from Alexis' body and mind. The only thing that makes me sad is that Jake and Danny won't be brothers but they will still be cousins and sometimes cousins can be closer than siblings.
