Oh. I was reading some Quora responses in regards to section 31 and one person basically called it the Hydra of the Federation with them only being villains, and it is bad that they have no oversight. I can kind of see their point, but the issue arises if you live in a utopian society, with almost naïve expectations and outlook of the greater universe, who exactly is going to be the one to make those tough decisions.

I see that oversight would be nice for any government entity, it’s never a good idea to have an entire government agency working out on their own, but considering the variety of dangers they fight against, they are necessary. In a utopian like society like the Star Trek Federation, I’m not really sure how such an organization would be able to exist outside of the shadows.

Out of curiosity, what would your response be to their description as the equivalent of Hydra villains within the federation?
