The WildC.A.T.s stayed at a place called Coincidental Mansion which demonstrated Kherubim technology capable of directly altering probability and chance for entertainment purposes. In the entire area in and around the mansion, bizarre and improbable happenings were more likely to take place thanks to a "low probability field generator". While the other WildC.A.T.s stayed at the Mansion, Zealot, as leader of the Coda, stayed somewhere else. The base for the Coda was built in a desert called the Bay of Numbers. In the Bay, the grains of sand continually shaped and reshaped themselves into ever-changing geometric forms. Perfect spheres, cubes and other, seemingly random shapes would form out of the sand, but the order and placement of them never repeated (and never would for all eternity). Though Coincidental Mansion and the Bay of Numbers were just for decoration and entertainment, there are other Kherubim creations that serve more practical purposes. The most noticeble piece of Kherubim technology are the Spartan Guards. The Spartans are fully sentient robots that are built as personal bodyguards as well as a police force. Each Spartan has a "brain" more powerful than any other computer (on Earth or otherwise), is programmed to be able to use any technology it comes across, is equipped with powerful lasers, is skilled in armed and unarmed combat and has superhuman levels of strength, speed and durability. Spartan, one of these androids, is a permanent member of the WildC.A.T.s and also shows up in several other comics. In the Majestic one-shot: Wildstorm Spotlight: Majestic, he gets so advanced that he becomes a god, a powerful example of the limits (or lack thereof) of Kherubim technology. Of all the Kherubim creations though, the Kheran Dream Engine may be the best. It can warp reality to make thoughts and dreams real. Teleportation, flying cars, plasma weapons Space TravelThe Kherubim have ships built (or more accurately "grown") for interstellar flight and in some cases, faster than light travel. Most Kherubim ships are able to access and travel The Bleed, allowing them to visit other dimensions. These ships (and the other battle ships) are outfitted with some of Khera's best weaponry and are so massive, they could be considered small cities. Kheran ships have a unique control system that is operated by vocalizations. Kherans sing to their ships to get them to do what they want and the Kheran vocal range is different enough from other species (at least human and Daemonite) that they can't be piloted by non-kherans without extensive modification. WeaponsThough the Kherubim have awesome technology and a myriad of machines that can do their fighting for them, most choose to fight for themselves and use bladed weapons to do so. Just because the weapons are not as complex as guns and lasers though, doesn't mean they aren't as effecient as other Kherubim tools. Blades made by Kherubim technology (called Kusar Blades) are capable of cutting anything, even beings of Superman/Mr. Majestic level durability. Sentient swords have been created that can deliver energy blasts as they strike (if the sword deems it necessary) as well as perform other tasks in the hands of a skilled swordsman. A sword like this is not common though, and only the highest ranking and most deserving are given weapons like this. Majestic owns another special blade that hasn't been seen before. It is a large sword capable of changing its shape (even changing from a blade to a completely different weapon like a spiked ball and chain) and also releasing energy blasts and electrical charges. There are also special weapons for stealth combat. Quantum-Folded Combat Blades are invisible and can be shrunk to the size of a cell phone and enlarged for combat. Skintight Nanoflage suits make the wearer invisible to all forms of surveillance and High-Dose Damper Capsules are pills that remove the powers of whoever ingests them so their energy signature is also undetectable. All this is not to say that Kherubim don't have other, more complex weapons. The Kherubim have energy weapons, forcefield technology, genetic bombs and weapons created for large-scale warfare and world take-overs, it's just that they are rarely needed since the Kherubim themselves are war machines. One weapon that Kherubim possess is the Low-Grav Wallcrawler. It most resembles a normal Earth tank (with more cannons) but it can transform into an even bigger machine almost capable of going head to head with a Spartan Guard. These machines appear to be semi-sentient, able to be piloted or left to act on their own. The Kherubim also have bio-chemical weapons, one of which is the Haikyatu Armory. According to Emp it has two stages. The first is a bacteria bomb that destroys the nerve centers of all forms of life while keeping the bodies intact. The second stage reanimates and controls the bodies, creating an army of undead. Of course there are also the lasers and mega-bombs that most advanced races seem to have, but the Kherubim try not to totally destroy their enemies when they fight in case something can be gained from keeping them alive There are a disturbing amount of people who would rather die than admit they (their ancestors) were wrong that they got conned It doesn't matter if it's socialism or anarcho-capitalism the charlatans will find a way into power Your side, their side, the truth, and what everyone else will believe despite all evidence to the contrary |
![]() ![]() Mankind longs to be good, but at the same time we applaud the swift and brutal defeats of those in the wrong Gotham City is a representation of everything that could possibly go wrong in a modern urban landscape. The system has broken down to a nightmarish degree. Corruption is rampant at every level of government. Street crime and urban blight are so prevalent that they're just considered part of everyday life. Even the most outwardly decent individual is just one traumatic experience from transforming into a baroque Serial Killer. The conventional forces for Law and order consistently fail to address the problems of the society they were created to serve, which necessitates the appearance of a non-conventional force (ie. a vigilante who makes extensive use of psychological warfare and theatrics, rather than logic and procedure). Modern society's problems have grown too large and too complex for its traditional ethics to address. Something new must be created to deal with these problems. Which brings us to The Joker. He is the extreme of criminal behavior that law is unable to resolve. A constant throughout the series is that Joker can not be redeemed. His madness cannot be treated or cured. In fact his madness is slightly contagious; trying to analyze him, or in some cases just spending a significant amount of time in his proximity, may drive you mad as well. He can't be contained either; imprison him and he'll just break out again. Only one thing can really be done with him...and no representative of law and order - not even Gotham's extraordinary agent of it - is willing or able to do that. Thou Shalt Not Kill is the one rule that no one will break, even though it will quite handily solve the unsolvable problem of the Joker, and that is presented to us as a good thing. Unfortunately traditional concepts of "good" and "evil" do not apply in a place like Gotham. The city has been abandoned by God, and the only reason God's laws hold any sway at all is because it gives them comfort to the citizens of the city to believe that they do. The Joker's continued existence - and the continued reign of terror he engages in - is the inevitable end product of the moral myopia/moral hypocrisy of Gotham City. Everyone in Gotham - including the vigilante who is technically outside the system - is applying a system of morality to a situation where it is no longer relevant, and in the process contributing to their own self-destruction I believe the general rule is do or at least try to do more good than harm The Authority save more than they kill The world needs men like Luthor not men like Batman check out Extermination from Boom Wouldn't it have been better if his father had a gun and killed the mugger in self defense Respectful when Supes is with Mr. Majestic or when he said a prayer for Tommy Monaghan not the condescension with other anti heroes like Manchester Black or Magog Robin Hood fought against unfair taxes not the honest merchants forced charity is not charity Yes a Mega Corp can screw you over for your money just like a government can but it's usually killing the goose that lays the golden egg, there is no glory in ruling over starving beat down idiots but strong healthy people A flat tax does help everyone so who cares if it helps the wealthy more, stop crying the other boy was faster so that's why he gets a trophy we're all going out for ice cream so shut up American Dream is not picket fence etc, what people forget is it's the PURSUIT of happiness not do nothing and get a roof, food, etc., it's a chance to save your pennies and then get an education with no one saying you can't rise above your station simply "Independence" surviving in life depend not on your connections to the powerful few, but rather by one's own diligence, hard work, and a bit of luck, the Ankh-Morporkian Dream, that of "making boatloads of cash in a place where your death was not likely to be a matter of public policy" redistribution of wealth usually does more harm than good the Front Line they ruthlessly enforce civil liberties in the sixties, they stop France from getting nukes, and destroy Iran's oil reserves to nip terrorism in the bud, they're first degree $$holes who only do these things because they're good for business but they made their world better than ours and when they're taken down the world goes to straight to hell In Black SummerTom Noir: "You want to change the nature of justice in America and you kill a president? What did you think that made you? Two-fisted Super-Jesus for the American Way? It made you Lee Harvey Oswald, you prick. You know what? Lots of people hated John F. Kennedy. He barely got elected. But Lee Harvey Oswald isn't remembered as an American hero. Just a prick who killed the president. That's you now, John." A man's motives are second to his accomplishments say you want to make a statement about the third of the planet that is starving to death so you light yourself on fire in front of an embassy, but you don't actually help a single child, but if you go to these places to build a legitimate business and make money and actually develop the country and improve their standard of living you actually DO help the nominal good guys aren’t willing to get their hands dirty or bloody or they don’t have the power, competence, or ability to act at the moment Society's failures to provide for the elderly, the infirm, and the young (though we must also teach them to take care of themselves when they grow up) it must also not take away someone's pride and dignity some would rather die than give up their pride one shouldn't force them to live with shame and humiliation Luthor IS the second smartest person in the universe after Brainiac but his creativity, ingenuity, and inventiveness makes up for the lack in raw brain power remember Red Son he did engineer a golden age that lasted millions of years of no poverty, war, crime, terrorism, science and art advance and so forth Without property rights there are no human rights Not everyone gets a trust fund, when you’re hungry you become a thief or killer if you have to I have a family f* you and your high and mighty B.S. we little people can’t depend on you at all times You keep poking a tiger eventually it’s going to bite you Taking the law into your own hands is bad, dangerous, and more than a little crazy again not saying black ops don't have their necessity, they can be used as a force of good we don't have to like, aid, or support them, normal people shouldn't have to, if you come from a loving family and a happy life you aren't and shouldn't be a tough guy but we don't always have sociopaths with codes sometimes normal people need to man up Don't forget about defending the innocent when punishing the guilty when you're hungry and you want to feed your starving family you steal bread to survive Work out the logistics don't give some pie in the sky BS asking people to lay down their lives for a higher cause believe in is not the same as asking them to just lay down and die it is wrong and stupid to ask someone to give up their self-preservation instincts thieves have to be clever, quick, and brave, bootlickers only have to lick boots true the snob mentality isn't something they've created and is a major problem we all need to deal with but you shouldn't ask someone to give up their pride and dignity either and them acting like school bullies doesn't help there are times to stand up for yourself and times to swallow your pride Sinestro’s planet was lawless and wild And in the end of the Sinestro Corps War, Sinestro admits that what he really wanted was to improve the Green Lantern Corps, making them accept the use of deadly-force when necessary. He achieved his ends either way. His people are practically BEGGING his daughter (the new Green Lantern of that sector) to become the next dictator Stand for what you believe until and unless logic and/or experience prove you wrong Bend the knee you can rise again if you’re dead you kind of have to stay dead unless you’re one of the people who put your underpants on the outside apparently There are good and bad rich people and there are good and bad poor people and there are good and bad middle class people a civilized man accuses specific individuals of specific crime (felony and fraud) Batman 1,000,000/3000/Beyond Barbatos One of Bruce's ancestors was framed for witchcraft by Vandal Savage in the Middle Ages, another ancestor was a knight of the Round Table who betrayed King Arthur, his spirit inhabit his armor to seek redemption Damian's Goliath/Zur En Arrh Azrael King Arthur and the Knights of Justice Batman: Book of the Dead, Bruce Wayne's parents were archaeologists who were on the verge of cracking open a major conspiracy involving an Egyptian bat-god who was erased from history. ![]() ![]() if you kill them you are just as bad excuse. Why frak won't writers stop bringing it up already!? Look. There are perfectly valid logical and compassionate reasons for heroes not to kill. Just off the top of my head: -because superheroes are technically illegal vigilantes, so it's best not to rock the boat too much by committing actions, such as homicide, that cannot be repaired; -because villains often have unique abilities that might one day be key to saving the day (ex: Lex Luthor actually saved the world a couple of times); -because being a superhero is incredibly stressful and at times even soul crushing, so keeping an optimistic attitude about man's inherent ability to be redeemed is good for your mental health; -because killing a villain might accidentally cause a chain reaction wherein more villains come up to cause more harm (ex: if you kill a villain who has kids and the kids then want revenge); I'm sure I could think of more good reasons if it were my paid job to write about the topic. "If you kill the unrepentant mass-murderer who gleefully tried to slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent people including toddlers for $#!% and giggles and will no doubt attempt to do so again, you are no better than he is" is a deeply, deeply idiotic reason. Self defense and defense of others and mercy killings are things that deserve respect and dignity Say that it's not acceptable to kill a threat that has already been neutralized. Do not ruin your perfectly good point by phrasing it in a way that makes you (general you) sound like a moron ("if you ever take a life for any reason you are as bad as a terrorist, no exceptions more accurately what a powerless street vigilante has to go through. It shows more accurately what he would do to stop street level evil. A western there is no system someone builds one, an eastern there is a crooked cop and/or other corruption but the system is reformed from the inside, a northern the system works perfectly, a southern the system is rotten to the core and has to be burned to the ground from the outside often from an outsider It's an important term, 'Moral Courage'. To some it means 'Willingness to sacrifice people.' To others it means 'Willingness to stick to a code when it's obviously a bad idea.' But 'To understand what you are doing goes against your religion, your creed or your duty. But to do it anyway because it Needs to be done for humanity.' Morality is the knowing of good and evil. Do not speak to me of moral duty, for I have taken up a burden greater then your own. Courage is to experience fear, and overcome it. Moral Courage, then is to see that something, while needed, is a terrible evil, but to overcome that fear. The quality of understanding what you are about to do is monstrous, to realize the horror that it is and be repulsed by that. To know that it will wrack you with guilt for the rest of your life, that you will some day have to account for what you are about to do, and to go through with it still. Moral Courage is to do what needs to be done, without ever becoming callus to the things you are doing. Because it is when you stop feeling guilt for failing in your duties that you become lax. So when I consign millions to death, I do so not with a clear heart, but wracked by tears and guilt. But I still consign those millions to death so that trillions may live. Black Adam good ruler his people stand up to superheroes for him In a world full of super powered monsters, of globe threatening crises twice a year, you think street level thugs are going to be -nicer-? To be pacified by a broken arm or a two year stretch in prison? Batman does nothing to stop crime. For all his billions, for all his fighting of colorful maniacs, Gotham is just as bad today as the day he began. The Punisher does nothing to stop crime. For all his killing, and his killing, and his killing, NYC is just as bad today as when he began. The task is Sisyphean. It wears you down, body and soul. With Batman, we get a taste of angst from time to time. A crisis of conscience here and there. With Punisher, we see a man in hell. His obsession, of almost identical origin as Batman's, drives him ever onward. He is cold, grim, and nearly emotionless. Nearly insensate to emotional, physical, and spiritual pain. He is superhuman, not due to the gadgets his billions buy him, or his farcical status as a paragon of human physique, intelligence, cunning, and fighting ability all at once, but that he simply able to -tolerate- the joyless, agonizing life he leads. That his mental infirmity demands of him. Frank Castle is not as interesting a character as Bruce Wayne, but he is far more realistic. That BW is able to engage in normal, hell, subtle and nuanced, social interaction despite his neuropathology beggars belief more than any combined Batplane/submarine/space fighter. Punisher is clearly sick. He clearly suffers. He is clearly disconnected from the world. Batman romances catburglars who look like supermodels in skin tight PVC costumes. Batman fans want a guy who is a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist who is also the best hand to hand fighter in the world and can fight superpowered space aliens just as handily as thugs with pistols, but even -there- we find more realism at Marvel because Tony Stark, BW's opposite number in this regard, is consistently portrayed as a -tremendous- jag-off. BW suffers unspeakable pain, fights an unwinnable fight, but stays emotionally healthy (unless it is part of a story that is quickly forgotten by the next guy). Batman is (ties for human second) best at everything, but remains humble and grounded, nothing is better for Gotham's citizens but he gets to play king of the mountain and all he offers the average man is flowers on their graves and those of their loved ones When it's just the Joker and the cockroaches and Bats trying to save the cockroaches He kills people, he gets locked up, escapes, kills more people, repeat ad nauseum You don't put a band aid on a gunshot wound, you don't keep putting band aid after band aid on a festering wound He's never wrong and must never be questioned gag One spoiled trust fund brat got a taste of the real world and wants to play king of the mountain but is anything better for the average Gotham citizen I'm not saying hitting people with a shame stick solves anything but where are the real solutions to poverty It's one thing to die a summary execution a bullet through the brain is one thing starving to death in the gutters is something else as is torture and mutiliation/crippling Desperate people do reckless and stupid things and there is nothing you can do to stop them False hope is as bad as despair if a stupid plan works it doesn't make it any less stupid you just got lucky and if a brilliant plan doesn't work it's still brilliant you just got unlucky Work out logisitcs and effectiveness before expecting time money and effort There is always someone better so learning to fight like a weakling is common sense Serial killers have their fans and groupies as well There are no monsters only monstrous acts Yes it IS society's fault It's not Old Yeller's fault he's a monster but no amount hugs is going to change someone like that, there is only one thing to be done about it If Charles Manson escaped every six months and went on a murder spree Of course society will forgive anything if you can bribe it with enough See the enemy you should respect or at least pity not the enemy you despise hating them won't make them weaker or dumber Do not see greed and malice where there is only stupidity Proper thieving, killing, and begging require just as much toil as any honest labor Freakynomics crime doesn't pay enough The weak/desperate do what they must to survive thieves and charlatans thugs and warlords We don't inherit from our ancestors we rent from our descendants future generations Other modern democracies make social programs work Sometimes cede the battle in front of you never the fight No fight is ever truly fair the opponent of one or an army will be stronger/faster/smarter, or have better arms or armor, training or experience, tactics or strategies, skill and talent, more comrades, or just luck An addiction to violence/money or whatever Extrajudicial execution political expediency Ironwolf Cluemaster did kill the guy who tried to molest Steph Scarecrow is the LEAST screwed up member of his family Riddler's cane like the Penguin utilizes an assortment of umbrellas, particularly the Bulgarian umbrella. Depending on the writer, some of his umbrellas can carry multiple weapons at once. He often carries an umbrella that can transform its canopy into a series of spinning blades: this can be used as a miniature helicopter or as an offensive weapon; he often uses this to escape a threatening situation. The canopy of the umbrella is sometimes depicted as being a bullet resistance shield, and some are patterned in different ways from a spiral capable of hypnotizing opponents to flashy signs. She fights back, to defend herself and to give her friend Etta a chance to get away, but once she’s knocked him down, she extends her hand in peace He rages at her. He throws punch after punch, and she stands there and lets him. And when he’s exhausted himself– She extends her hand again. And she talks to him, and she listens, and she appeals to his sense of justice and compassion. And in doing so, she gains an ally This isn’t unique to Gail Simone’s run; it was a key characteristic of Diana throughout post-Crisis Wonder Woman. Back in 1989, in Wonder Woman #33, we have Diana’s shame at the realisation that she’d been fighting Cheetah as much out of a desire for revenge as a need to protect others Looking on the imprisoned Cheetah, Diana feels pity; she sees a woman maddened by pain and bloodlust, deserving of help as much as punishment. The unwillingness to use lethal force has allowed dozens of criminals to murder hundreds of people time and again, but at least they have the moral high ground (and a fair portion of the responsibility for those deaths, from a moral as well as legal perspective) And I can let that slide In a comic book. It is not about Heroes making the world safe in a realistic and effective fashion. It is an action comic about good guys fighting bad guys. I get that. Suspension of disbelief and all that. The genre requires a bit of fantasy for the gears to turn But if you are going to have me suspend my disbelief, you can't hang a lampshade on the less rational elements. flatly and objectively wrong in this case. "We -always- find a way!" is such a Pollyanna-ish statement to make in this argument, because the only reason you always find a way is due to editorial mandate. Any soldier or police officer would have made the same choice, and there isn't always time to "find a way" to make sure everyone gets out alive. How many innocents have died the Justice League are all sanctimonious idiots justifiable homicide is a thing. Being a cop or a soldier isn't a requirement for acceptable uses of lethal force If Innocents died, would THAT make you feel better? Yes. Because then I could blame myself and brood on a rooftop. You killing to save innocents makes everything awkward Reggie: All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us? Xerxes: Brought peace? Reggie: Oh, peace? SHUT UP! Caesar: "Our ancestors, Fathers of the Senate, were never lacking either in wisdom or courage, and yet pride did not keep them from adopting foreign institutions, provided they were honourable. They took their offensive and defensive weapons from the Samnites, the badges of their magistrates for the most part from the Etruscans. In fine, whatever they found suitable among allies or foes, they put in practice at home with the greatest enthusiasm, preferring to imitate rather than envy the successful." It's absolutely true that the Romans (like the Greeks before them) saw themselves as superior over barbarians (i.e. non-Romans: other Italian tribes, Greeks, Gauls, Germans, Britannics, Persians, Judeans et al.) but that superiority was civic and military. The cultural and intellectual nationalism of the Romantic era (which underpinned colonialist propaganda) was not really a thing for the ancient Romans. During the Punic Wars, the Romans admitted to have reverse-engineered Carthaginian triremes to match their rivals on sea, and even during the third and final Carthaginian war, express orders were given to preserve Carthaginian texts and other knowledge about agriculture for their benefit. The Romans were also remorseful about killing Archimedes (who allied with the Carthaginians) during the siege of Syracuse, as well as accidentally burning the library of Alexandria during Caesar's invasion Likewise, the Romans admitted that Greeks were superior to them in language and culture despite conquering and subjugating them. Caesar admitted that Egyptian astronomers were smarter than Romans and borrowed from them to devise the Julian calendar. Indeed, part of the reasons why Romans were so proud and smug was because they saw themselves as the underdog defeating and subjugating smarter, richer and more powerful civilizations. The Romans also were big on syncretism and always hungry for new religious fads and despite the fact that the Persian Empires of Parthia and Sassanid were historical holdouts against the Romans, they still borrowed stuff from Persian culture most notably the highly popular Mithras and Manichean beliefs which could have potentially displaced Christianity being that they were far more popular among the lower-classes than Christianity was for a while Nazis gave us development of rocket technology, first anti-smoking and environmental and animal protection laws nature to pre-industrial peoples is a ruthless, brutal, and cruel b word before modern medicine and transportation harmony with nature is a city dweller concept Many infrastructure projects in former colonies were built by the colonizers. Of course, mostly for entirely self-serving reasons (most railway lines will link a mine to a port rather than two major cities) but several countries in Africa have not notably extended their railway network since colonial times. With the rise of China as a global power, Chinese investment is building railway lines, highways, ports and other infrastructure - again mostly for entirely self-serving reasons, but the countries which receive this type of self-serving "aid" are not exactly in a position where numerous investors line up around the block to give credits at favorable rates |

And he also kinda drove Harvey Dent back to being a criminal because he instantly suspected him of being a murderer A certain amount of ruthlessness, ambition and desire for wealth is needed to get ahead in business. Ambition is about human achievement it’s only when this is taken too far (completely unfair to employees, consumers, or the environment) that’s it’s bad Alternatively, utterly ruthless out of a fanatical dream to use his company to remake the world in the image of something he holds dear, for the greater good. Or alternatively he HAS to keep anything functioning or otherwise doing anything worthwhile because the alternatives are worse for everyone he can and does make lots and lots of even more money with mundane means Most corporate executives are simply businessmen who do their jobs, without overreaching or using unethical methods. The man knows how business works, learns from others who have succeeded, and doesn't mind playing a bit dirty to achieve his goals. The local/state/federal government's obscenely complicated regulations make it impossible for him to profit in the first place. The person begins to start making quite a bit of money, so his even larger competitors make a "donation" to the re-election campaign of a powerful Senator. Said Senator then pushes for a whole slate of regulations that make it impossible for said person's business to continue making a profit. The person's business becomes a great success. However, because he hired non-Union labor (he wouldn't have been able to afford Union labor, only bigger corporate competitors can), the Unions finance an Astroturf protest outside his business calling him a monstrous exploiter. The firestorm of public abuse drives him to sell his business to his competitors, thus reducing competition in the industry and resulting in every consumer paying much higher prices. The person's business actually does fully succeed and make him a multi-millionaire. The amount of work said person had to do in order to get there means said person has very little leisure time to actually enjoy the wealth; said person is Married to the Job and hence has very few relationships ...So he devotes his life and fortune to serving the community, giving back to the impoverished classes he was once a part of If someone had the insight, ability, and the guts to kill Hitler The Authority are one of the few superhero teams who acknowledge that the massive collateral damage from their battles can and probably has caused civilian casualties. The general understanding is that it's an unfortunate but necessary evil, since allowing their enemies to rampage unchecked would cause even more death and destruction. It's also worth noting that they try to limit the damage when possible, such as evacuating civilians and fencing in the combat zone, and are frequently on hand afterwards to help with the emergency services dealing with the aftermath. In post-apocalyptic wasteland, working closely with civilians to protect them from outside threats, risking their own lives when half of them had been Brought Down to Normal, and generally being very human and relatable The team started out as extremely violent against potential world-ending threats, and was perfectly willing to kill thousands of invading superhuman terrorists, or cause extreme collateral damage in doing so. However, this is no different from the actions of regular soldiers, as they were extremely benevolent in other respects: such as helping to clear up the disaster zones after any conflict; feeding and hosting millions of war refugees, or victims of other disasters; protecting them from militias; freeing them from tyrannies through much less human casualties than a standard military could manage (through outgunning scare tactics); reforming supergenius criminals to help their research for cures to various diseases or life-improving technologies; and overall genuinely making the world into a better place. However, later writers who didn't like the themes arguably severely flanderised and tried to twist around the more idealistic notes that Ellis and Millar introduced, so among other things the team was tricked into "overthrowing the government of the US, and briefly taking over" (rather than, say, China, which would make far more sense) Raven has the biggest bosom of all the girls, hips as wide as her shoulders and her shapely legs, she can fight at least as equal to Starfire and she was trained by the Warlords of Okaara, they've trained some of the greatest warriors in the DCverse or even Wondergirl, and Lady Legasus I always wanted Raven with Goth Boy him like Captain Marvel with Rorek and Malchior his dragon familiar or have them some kind of amalgam like Eddie Riggs/Dante or virgil from Devil May Cry with guns, sword, guitar that makes lightning storms, magic briefcase/backpack/Santa's magic sack/bag cloak (White Shadow-camo/night camo) pull anything from, but black clothes or like a good teenage Dr. Doom/Lord Havok master of sorcery and superscience or from hidden kingdom that avoided White Martians' ancient experiments and thus stronger, tougher, and faster than Kryptonians like Vartox/Paragon as well as inherit white plasma on par with the Starheart/Shazam's magic lightning or Prince Stygia like kid Eternity, Alucard or a teenage Shadow (Kent Allard/Lamont Cranston) or Spider (Richard Wentworth) but like Edison Rex’s Eclipse I or Shine- Good teenage clone of Darkseid when he was still human looking spliced with Drax the Infinity Man and Highfather and Yuga Khan Sunstone/Fortress of Solitude(Kole)/Wonderdome/New Themyscira/Thalarion/Mythlands-Cosmopolitan, Multiethnic/Omniethnic/Citizenry of the Empire of the Silver Snake/Zerox/Skartaris/Nth Metal/Mother Box-Element X-Celestial City |
![]() ![]() War World The villains even ones with godlike power may fear Joker but they are in awe of Lex Luthor I like to think Lex like Adrian Veidt in Watchmen can go toe to toe with any non-powered hero develop his own fighting style and workout program in addition to being scientific/business/political overall Renaissance man, that his white suit as powerful as his power armor I also think he should have nanotech that makes him like the Darkness or Spawn, robots like his power armor, Doomsdays and Bizarros that are stronger, smarter, faster, better looking than Supes hordes completely under his thrall In the comics Mercy is an Amazon as in Wonder Woman can go toe to toe with Supes and she has a partner Hope I like to think they're from the Citizenry space Amazons ruled by Wonder Woman's aunt Astarte with guns as powerful as green lantern ring As president Luthor eliminated the national debt, brought unemployment to almost zero, it was HIS leadership that got us through two alien invasions and even the heroes admit without it we would have fallen Only through Lex has there ever been an instance where humanity unites and thrives in the cosmos Until the citizens of the DCverse say they'd rather have Lex solve the problems of the world instead of super powered people punching things they don't deserve the cancer cure and etc Lex Luthor goes out of his way to be a friendly, personable boss to the help, from his janitor to the guy who owns the newsstand near his building to Alfred Pennyworth when he meets Bruce Wayne, Lex is actually a very complex character, he appreciates honest, hard work, since he himself comes from a working-class background (he’s from Metropolis’s Suicide Slums, it was his inventions and leadership that made Metropolis a city of tomorrow that got Metropolis out of near fatal poverty), and he's not lying when he says that he has the ultimate well-being of humanity in mind HE should be the one in charge, but as long as he has that, he does try to make those under him live better lives. Lex has a good understanding of how economics work, so he knows that his financial empire is supported by average joes working blue-collar jobs Humanity's fate should be in the hands of humans Ancient humans were the settlers of Rann, Thanagar, and Krypton, life began on earth Superman undermines humanity's worth and accomplishments A civilized man accuses specific individuals of specific crimes felony and fraud otherwise people should mind their own business this does not mean we ignore things that aren't evil but are nevertheless dangerous Everyone should be given powers and tech it's idiotic this isn't done the heroes care more about getting off on playing Mr. Son of God, strutting around going who’s got the bigger cock than actually improving the lives of the people God made man Sam Colt made them equal When you can dodge bullets, outfly missiles, and swim across the surface of the sun it's only a matter of time before you start thinking you've better things to do than save the world for the two hundredth time In Kingdom Come The “Newbloods” spent their whole lives in terror of these villains, they see the older generation as ineffective The "Newbloods" obviously took it too far but as they say they did save lives (some villains do need to be stopped permanently they keep breaking out of prison (Arkham is state of the art the most infamous denizens are just that good at escaping and they WILL kill in the dozens, hundreds, and thousands, some ARE that much of a threat to the people if not the heroes and it just seems sickeningly aristocratic) and butchering innocents the only reason they haven't put down the Joker I can figure is that the DCverse is the type of place someone like the Joker would break out of Hell and probably bring an army of demons to do his bidding) and they had new worse villains like the Slaughter Brigade to deal with, this is probably why the older heroes didn't step in until the "Newbloods" crossed the line, in a dark world heroes can be dark, but after they kill the villains, they have to stop if they still want to fight each other go to the middle of the desert not cities Don't get me wrong lethal force should be used if and only if all other means are exhausted or unavailable to save lives or stop villains, I certainly don't want them slitting the throats of every single thug they come across (you do that you stop being a hero and become Frank Castle) if only because it could be an undercover cop doing his or her job I hate how the heroes act like school bullies I get it when it’s sickos who enjoy killing people, the child molesters, the thugs too stupid to understand anything else, and crime lords even the ones who properly manage the implacable illicit businesses of city life (Illicit businesses are an implacable part of city life all prohibition does is make criminals rich, alcohol, tobacco, cars, and junk food kill far more people), they’re probably still thieves and killers so keeping them on leashes is probably smart, but when they do it to the likes of Luthor and Maxwell Lord I almost understand doing things like dropping an atom bomb on Gotham to kill Batman Not easy balancing liberty, prosperity and social stability, all anarchy does is leave us at the mercy of every thug and psychopath, great for mighty warriors not so much for the average man People want fatty foods, loud music, regular sex, and flickering television images more than they want justice I will always prefer villains who at least have a point and frighteningly may even be right about everyone being better off under their benevolent dictatorship (of course make education great so the common man does know what is best for him and his children's children and democratic republicanism can work) like Ra's al Ghul if the environment isn't brought into balance no matter the means or cost the future for the human race will be worse than any dystopian fiction and will lead to the extinction of the human race not through misadventure but suicide through stupidity or Lex Luthor who as he says if he was calling all the shots could end famine and cure cancer and he could his mind is capable of anything perhaps give everyone ultra high-tech nonpolluting technology and maybe even superpowers (without the White Martians ancient experiments all humanity would be like the Kryptonians or Daxamites) lead humanity and the rest of the universe to unimaginable glory remember Red Son he united all humanity and led us to a golden age that lasted millions of years, no poverty, disease, war, crime, terrorism, or environmental problems and science and art advance A lot of villains seem unaware that if they used their mind and/or other talents for legitimate business causes or the government could be far more profitable than any crime spree When you live in a world of such technology and people with four digit IQs why in the nine hells haven't you solved the world's problems of poverty and disease, everyone should be given tech (Sunstone/Fortress of Solitude/Wonderdome) and powers Of course vigilantes can be sanctimonious hypocrites judging others and letting themselves go unscrutinized condemning others when they do the same thing for less reasons I think it is disgusting they don't share their scientific breakthroughs (of course inventors should be well compensated) with the scientific specifically medical community or their skills with law enforcement agencies far more good than beating up thugs and psychos fight crime at its source ignorance and poverty. I realize due to rarity and complexity mass production may not always be possible or at least cost effective and due to difficulty not all could take brutal training but a little bit could go a very, very long way. A hero doesn’t just save people a hero teaches the people to take care of themselves. The ability to think of future generation when calculating pragmatic utilitarianism is what separates us from the animals. The world is not the way it is because of thugs and psychopaths, corrupt businessmen/politicians (which contrary to fiction are the exception not the rule) but because most people are too stupid to know what is best for them the extreme left and extreme right get caught up in their ideals and refuse to acknowledge brutal facts of reality no real world understanding of the extreme complexities of politics, economics, technological logistics, and how they’re all interconnected in the long run. People want everything right here right now the whole world just handed to them on a silver platter think just by complaining something will happen without a tangible plan. Such a plan will require a lot of long, hard, boring work all day every day for generations. There will always be some exploitation, the best and brightest will elevate themselves over the common man, it’s nature, best for the species, it improves the standard of living of the human race as a whole, as long as they don’t kill anyone or otherwise actively oppress, free trade and enterprise is the only thing that has ever led to long lasting meaningful peace I'm glad the government has Suicide Squad, Cadmus, Checkmate, the Elite, Amanda Waller, and the new female Spy Smasher, Cameron Chase I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting accountability from superheroes, having checks and balances on these living breathing weapons of mass destruction seems quite reasonable to me one will go left when they should go right and innocent people will die it WILL happen, not saying black ops don't have their necessity they can be used as a force of good Have you heard of The Boys Say you’re Harry Truman, do you drop the bombs or do you drown the home islands in the blood of U.S. Marines BATMAN has no answer to that question Sometimes the greatest good for the greatest number just means the least amount of suffering Sometimes you have to cut deals with the lesser evil Vetinari, The Ankh-Morpork Thieves and Assassins Guilds |

It shows. Supposedly knowledgeable characters treat Robert and Littlefinger's massive spending as a detriment to a realm, with Ned in particular citing the lack of gold in the royal vaults (as opposed to when Aerys ruled) as evidence of Robert's mismanagement. In real life, loaning and investing money is what a government is supposed to do, and keeping everything locked up is simply wasting it. Robert's investments had a demonstrably great return (Littlefinger increased the crown's incomes ten-fold, King's Landing is more prosperous than ever a mere decade after Tywin brutally sacked it, the Royal Fleet is back to over a hundred war galleys and tens of thousands of men after it got wiped out by a storm a decade earlier and further reduced in the Greyjoy Rebellion, maritime trade is booming to the extent that Stannis can seize hundreds of traders' ships on short notice at the secondary port of Dragonstone), and the debt he accumulated was explicitly not enough that he couldn't easily pay it off (it's stated in the fourth book that payments were still being made on time even in the middle of the brutal continent-wrecking War of the Five Kings), so really, he's the most economically competent king Westeros ever had. Speaking of loans, a debt of 2 million gold dragonsnetover 15 years to the Iron Bank is treated as a significant burden. Not only does this totally ignore the massive positive effects on the crown's credit of making 15 years of consistent payments, it's also not consistent with previous figures given: Robert could afford to casually give away 100,000 gold dragons as a reward for a jousting tournament, yet a mere twenty times that is supposedly a big deal for a continent to pay off. The gold dragon in general arbitrarily changes value depending on the chapter. A mercenary fleet under Sallador Saan (29 ships and thousands of men) costs Stannis 30,000 a month to operate, and yet Anguy the archer manages to spend 20,000 in a couple weeks on whores, booze, a nice pair of boots and a good dagger. Braavos is somehow a significant trade city despite being totally isolated from all known trade routes. Its position on the map roughly parallels that of St. Petersburg, Russia (far in the northeast with the only convenient sea connection being to the North), for a city that's supposed to be in the position of Venice, Italy (which was located at the heart of the Mediterranean and Europe in general). The Twins are supposed to have made the Freys very wealthy, due to giving them the only overland route to the North, ostensibly a major trade node. Ignoring the North's lack of tradeable goods due to its poverty or the fact that it's a thousand miles through taiga and swamp from the Twins until you reach the nearest city, a miniscule amount of trade in the medieval era took place by land (less than 10%), so control over this point should really offer the Freys very little. Tywin Lannister is somehow the richest man in Westeros because he owns many gold mines and has produced vast quantities of gold for literally generations, and yet he has more objective wealth than Mace Tyrell, who controls a population three times as large and produces most of the realm's food, in a world where winters can last for years and where storing vast amounts of food for winter is the difference between life and death. The Lannisters also never seem to suffer the logical consequences of churning out limitless amounts of gold for over a thousand years, which would be hyperinflation and a drop in value of said gold (cf. the result of the Spanish stumbling across an effectively infinite supply of silver in the form of the New World). Slaver's Bay sustains itself by buying slaves, training them, and reselling them. Given that they must pay for at least a decade of the slave's shelter and provisions, this is completely impossible. Particularly for the Unsullied, which are raised from childhood and have an 80% death rate in training. Dull is the blade of the lazy warrior hesitate to call a warrior at all, a blowhard and a braggart perhaps but a warrior I think not No fight is ever truly fair the opponent of one or an army will have better arms or armor, training or experience, tactics or strategies, or skill and talent, more comrades, or just luck I think Ironwood ships Fleet would be cool and Black Harbor (perhaps dragonglass) for Western Coast of North rebuilt fleet Moat Cailin rebuilt Snowlands, Rock/Hill Lands If not afraid than not courage just stupidity armies of their chimeras dragon/wyvern/wolf/shadowcat/bat/avian/snakescorpionwasp tails/fauna/crusta/floramen and wood(straw/leather scarecrow)/stone(gems)/magma valyrian steel golems(giants/Titans) with swords tridents and shields electoo finger laserguns that would be better workforce and soldiers Beskha and Amaya Lion of Night Maiden of Light Garth Greenhand/hair ancestor of Bran the Builder, Godsgrief, and I think others first king (warchief) of the First Men (in Westeros) Dragon Stone Building material Oily Black Stone Seastone Chair, Hightower, and other places |

The conflict is driven by the desires of the respective heads of households to further the political power and/or political independence of their houses. Family honor is practically an obsession, and the more ambitious lords want to take their families as far as they can (which is the Iron Throne). Everyone is concerned with furthering the ambitions of their families and factions, not what is best for the realm as a whole. Ironically, however, the two most powerful men in Westeros are the ones that don't have families. Littlefinger has no family to speak of, and Varys, as a eunuch, is physically incapable of having one. So their primary concern instead becomes the realm. Varys's behind-the-scenes machinations are meant to preserve the country, and to put the best possible ruler on the Iron Throne. In a sense, he sees the realm as his family...and he is just as ruthless in the course of protecting and furthering his family as any noble lord is. Littlefinger, on the other hand, has no ties whatsoever. He's solely in it for himself. George RR Martin said that he originally planned to write a War of the Roses novel but decided against it because everyone knows how it will turn out and that "the princes in the tower" will not escape. In history, the two young children of King Edward IV, of the House of York, the Bran and Rickon of their generation if you will, were the heirs of the throne. Upon the King's death, Richard III presented a claim to monarchy citing the illegitimacy of the King's marriage to Elizabeth Woodville, since the King had already been secretly married to another before, an action which vindicates his claim. Richard III, then took those children hostage and locked them in the Tower of London, a traditional castle for raising royal children, the Dragonstone if you will. And then the Princes vanished...an action which eroded much support for Richard III, presumed culprit, and placed Henry Tudor as the next best claim to the throne, a Welshman who flew a Dragon Standard on the Battle of Bosworth Field. The mystery of these disappeared Princes is disturbing for many reasons. If Richard III killed those Princes as is generally believed, he brutally violated all norms of decency to claim the throne, showing a ruthless amoral urge for power that completely tramples over all notions of feudal honor and chivalry. If Henry Tudor or his supporters ordered the deaths of the Princes, as some Ricardians believe, than an Usurper maligned and tarnished a worthy and honorable man, framed him for the crime of the deaths of two innocents and rode over their corpses to lay claim on the dynasty that ultimately birthed England's Golden Age. Either way, the implication one gets is that those two children's deaths cleared the path for many men of ambition. Robert Baratheon became King by conquest, by having a distant claim to the Throne through a Targaryen grandmother, Rhaegar even called him cousin to Jaime in his flashbacks. But as Tywin Lannister points out that the only real way to clear his path to the throne is to kill Prince Rhaegar's children since supporters will always rally around their claim. The result of Tywin brutally killing those children via Gregor Clegane is the lifelong disgust of the Starks and other houses of honour, the enmity of the Martells but also 13 years of a fragile peace. This peace is disturbed because Lord Eddard Stark refuses to kill children or allow them to die. Ned Stark informed Cersei because he knew that Robert in his wrath would kill Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella, bastards of incest. By refusing to kill those children, Ned Stark fulfills the standards of decency that everyone adheres to but in the end, he gets killed by the very boy-king he wanted to spare. Both in the series, by the likes of Littlefinger, and by readers, people lamented Ned Stark's softness in wanting to "spare" the children. The deaths of children is what certain actions are defined and measured by. Moreover, these actions are framed by the context of society. Theon Greyjoy presumably killing "Bran and Rickon", two miller's sons, is treated as much lower on the scale than Tywin Lannister killing Rhaenys and Aegon, why? Because Theon Greyjoy Turncloak Ironborn is an idiot while Tywin Lannister is smart, a man who does what he has to do, the lord of the wealthiest part of Westeros and who is careful to frame his actions around an acceptable pill of necessity and pragmatism which Theon fails to do. Tywin Lannister has toadies like Pycelle and Kevan making apologies for his actions, indifferent a$$holes like Robert Baratheon shrugging and accepting the Throne he fought for, while Ned Stark and others sulk in the corner about honor. Ultimately society will arbitrarily support and accept as Necessary Evil the deaths of some children while in other cases, the deaths of Bran and Rickon, even when feigned, is used by Stannis to claim vengeance in North and rally against Roose Bolton and Theon Greyjoy. It's not just what characters are willing to do, but the manner in which their actions are seen and judged by society in the proper context _ Relative to the Reach. Hightower is the richest, Redwyne has all the ships, Tarly is the Reach's military powerhouse, Florent has more historical prestige, but nobody's as strong at political maneuvering and raw cunning as House Tyrell. The only reason House Tyrell is in power is because they were smart enough to give up the capital of the Reach to Aegon, after Highgarden's owner just died. Compared to the other Great Houses of Westeros, the Tyrells have contrasting good relationships with their vassal houses (save from some exceptions) and take actual interest on their domain; for instance, the City Watch of Oldtown belongs to them. Should they have problems, the Tyrells still have a foot firm in Highgarden should there be need to regroup. they use every trick in the book as pragmatically and hard-nosed as possible, they also haven't neglected the roles good PR and soft power can play in advancing your influence without adding people to the "who wants to kill us" list. For all they are actually playing the game as ruthlessly as others, often enough. Loved, somewhat feared, but mainly respected; and, certainly not hated: that's the route they're aiming for as a group The Tyrells got away with putting the Baratheons under siege twice with no retribution whatsoever. Even when Stannis takes a great chunk of their bannermen, they still have complete and undisputed control of the Reach other than some dissident houses who aren't even opposing them in battle (like the Florents). Whereas the Tyrells are physically attractive and pleasant, the Florents are butterfaces with a sense of entitlement and no social skills Florents not only they are unsociable, they are smug, stupid and pretty ugly. Not only are they unpleasant people as a whole, they are generally fairly unpleasant-looking, too (all sneers and ears). Subverted by the half-Florents Shireen Baratheon (she is innocence incarnate) and Edric Storm (an energetic little charmer). Even though they still have those ears, neither wear sneers. Florents consider themselves to have a better claim to Highgarden than the Tyrells as they descend from House Gardener through the male line and not the female line like the Tyrells They are said to be descended from Florys the Fox, a daughter of Garth Greenhand who had three husbands who did not known of each other and fathered the founders of Houses Florent, Ball, and Peake they may have a fox as their sigil, but their arrogance and stupidity screw over nearly every single "cunning" plan they make When Renly and Stannis each declare themselves king, Alester declares for Renly, despite Stannis being the rightful king and Selyse being his wife. This can be chalked up to Alester being loyal to his liege lord, Mace Tyrell, who declared the Reach for Renly, though it is pointed out that Brightwater Keep is too close to Highgarden for the Florents to risk Tyrell displeasure. However when Renly dies Alester breaks his oath to Mace and heads over to Stannis' camp, because if Stannis wins it will mean House Florent gets more political power in the Reach (though Mace hadn't declared for Joffrey yet). Then when Stannis' campaign is failing Alester goes behind his back and selfishly offers Shireen to the crown (as in the Lannisters who are known for their cruelty and child abuse), in exchange for a pardon and Brightwater Keep back in Florent hands. Loyalty is not this man's strongest quality. Despite his flaws, he is the only Florent encountered so far who is not a R'hllor fanatic or a complete Jerkass. He even treats Davos courteously Just like Harlen Tyrell surrendered the Reach to Aegon The Conqueror by bending the knee, Mace Tyrell surrendered and bent the knee to Robert Baratheon when the fighting was all but lost. In both occasions, it gave them huge advantage leaps forward, consolidating their power. Dudes are very good at surrendering. And just like ambitious house from the Reach who married their gorgeous daughter to the King and the patriarch is the second most powerful man on the country? Hello again, Hightowers! Other than that, the Tyrells don't seem to be failing in the War of Five Kings where the Hightowers did during the Dance of the Dragons, which is the fact that they have never overplayed their hand (except with Renly, and they corrected that remarkably fast). Where the Freys have tried their social climbing the direct and dirty way when not marrying into every power in sight, the Tyrells have gone about it rather differently (if, also including marriage). Both have large families (granted, the Tyrells don't outnumber the Freys: but, they're still not a tiny family), both have Thicker Than Water tendencies. But, only one is succeeding at this whole PR thing and has plans in place for when various linchpins may no longer be in the world. They seem to have a flexible code of honor and a love of family that's seeing them stick together and manage to stay together while forging ahead in the Decadent Court atmosphere. "Strong" is in their motto. "Stark" also means strong. The Starks remain strong through endurance and will power, the Tyrells through clever alliances. Both are loved by their smallfolk but while the Starks are honorable to a fault, the Tyrells have no true loyalties but to themselves. Both have ancestors who surrendered without a fight to Aegon the Conqueror Like the Lannisters both are ancient and powerful houses that have been working to exert their influence over the Iron Throne to their own benefit, but whereas the Lannisters are essentially a Big Screwed-Up Family who cooperate through Teeth-Clenched Teamwork at best, the Tyrells work together out of genuine love and affection for one another, treating one another as actual family rather than rivals for power. Some think they gave their cousins the Gardeners the idea to go fight the dragons Did it occur to anyone that the Khal is the threat and just have him killed and when the new khal kills Dany and her child well they didn't create the Dothraki culture they can't put that on them or maybe the assassin would fail and if they don't wait until they have proof the Dothraki at least plan to invade they will not have justice on their side and the Dothraki may get over their fear of sea water for revenge Cersei can scheme and treacher and backstab with all but the very best of them she knows how to GET power but not keep it she has no idea what to do to secure her own future or the actual job of ruling, keeping the masses or bare majority fed and entertained, she has no patience for the balancing the budget stuff and etcetera Robert didn't thank or reward or even recognize Stannis duty and going above and beyond and his great accomplishments as well and he gave credit to others for Stannis' successes, he blamed the mistakes of others on Stannis but he gave him Dragonstone which is traditional seat of heir and technically made Stannis the third most powerful man in Westeros, to hold those parts of the Crownlands so loyal to the Targaryeans though he probably never said so to Stannis and Stannis probably didn't understand that Robert needed someone as Draconian as Stannis to keep the Targaryean loyalists in line Baelish doesn't need to embezzle, he's a very successful pimp, not to say he doesn't manipulate the finances of the realm for his own benefit he does but through much more subtle, complicated, and far reaching parts of his schemes Baelish is trying to create a meritocracy ninety nine percent of Westeros live in squalor Valyrian steel blades were scarce and costly, yet thousands remained in the world, perhaps two hundred in the Seven Kingdoms alone Not see greed and malice where there is only stupidity Martells (none of the Starks are politically savvy why would Lyanna be) a well meaning idiot can do more harm than an evil wise man on the other hand Winter is coming we need Jon Always thought Baelish led Brandon and everyone to believe she was kidnapped Proper thieving, killing, and begging require just as much toil as any honest labor Bullying the weak does not make you strong A dagger in the dark may be worth a thousand swords at dawn but winning a duel is not winning a battle is not winning a war is not winning peace An organized approach brings the most good for all. Laws exist to bring prosperity to those under them. Unjust laws must be overturned or changed in a reasonable and positive fashion. People rule; laws help. Cause the most good through the least harm. (and if that's not honor enough for you think about what honor really truly is) Protect the weak. Goodness is not a natural state, but must be fought for to be attained and maintained. Lead by example. Let your deeds speak your intentions. Goodness radiates from the heart. Give others your mercy, but keep your wits about you. Incest more often than not can cause weakness and lack of intelligence but elsewise one's honor, wisdom, kindness and strength has nothing to do with when or whose cock and cunt you slithered out of it's about one's upbringing it's nature and nurture On the battlefield you don't die a bastard or trueborn a commoner a royal or highborn you die because the adversary was stronger or faster or smarter or just luckier Brandon and Wyla my alternative theory It is unwise to judge others by preconceived notions or what they look like We're human We're in this together the world belongs to each and every one of us It's fine to move to your own drum's beat it's all well and good But when land is scarce you have to fall in line think of the greater good Live by the old ways best be prepared to die by them Trouble is coming sooner or later and when it does there will be no begging for help from those you've scorned and turned your back on If it's between being part of something larger than myself and scraping by on my own I say screw tradition You have the courage to do that trade the ways/wilderness of your ancestors for a share in civilization or is your fellow man not worth the effort |

The Sith Rule of Two. In theory, Darth Bane's ideal is that each apprentice overthrows the master once they've learned all they can, and thus each successive generation of Sith is supposedly stronger and more knowledgeable than the last. But given that the Dark Side of the Force is inherently corruptive and therefore tends to work contrary to any kind of idealism, and the will of the Force supposedly opposes the Sith in the long-term, it's more likely that knowledge is lost with every generation of Sith: the master is always looking for a better apprentice and has an incentive to keep some knowledge from them for self-preservation, and there's always a chance the master might die an accidental death before their apprentice is fully trained, or that an unready apprentice might get lucky and kill their master too early. Emperor Palpatine in turn, while the most successful Dark Lord of the Sith in history (in that he succeeded in utterly destroying the Jedi Order where thousands of years of previous Sith had failed), can be interpreted as a demonstration of the above. He broke the Rule of Two by picking apprentices more useful as tools for his plans than as potential successors: Darth Maul was a good Jedi-killer but not much of a grand thinker, Count Dooku was almost twenty years older than Palpatine according to canonical dates and thus likely to pre-decease him, and Anakin Skywalker was an arrogant, easily manipulated Hot-Blooded fool who, like Maul, was good at killing Jedi but not at grand strategy Palpatine was a master of the Dark Side and a great politician but not a general or admiral The Jedi Council are portrayed as maliciously indifferent throughout the Canon, caring only for their own agenda while doing whatever they have to to achieve it. In the Prequel Trilogy, they state that the nine year old Anakin is too old to begin the training, implying they normally take children when they are too young to understand what they are actually doing. They also appear to be blind to their own hypocrisy "Only Sith deal in absolutes!" and deal with emotion in a way that suggests the current generation of Jedi Masters were all poorly trained in handling them. The frequent and violent outbursts by young adult Jedi that lead to their deaths or expulsion from the Order often gets met with tutting and proclamations that "(s)he simply lacked the discipline" and that other Jedi should repress themselves even more. Basically, they come off as Not So Different from the Sith in any way other than how they handle emotion, which is just as bad but in a different way from their enemies. The prophesy that a child would bring "balance" to the Force by destroying the Sith once and for all also reeks of Protagonist-Centered MoralityThere is also just how self-important the Jedi come off. Depending on the writer they came come off as either immensely humble or extremely sure of their own morality that they come off as a gang of Smug Super jerks. This doesn't even come from writers with anti-jedi slants: Dave Filoni had his favorite Jedi Plo Koon give a We {the Jedi} are Justice line that suggests this interpretation. Sure the Dark Side clouds all and that was the Sith's plan all along is my interpretation but still The interpretation of Palpatine being aware of the impending invasion is a development of Thrawn's character. There's a lot of hints that Thrawn joined the Empire because he was aware of a threat and continued to serve because he thought that the New Republic would collapse due to internal infighting (though the Empire itself collapsed due to infighting). Later interpretations transferred this to Palpatine. (The current canonical interpretation is probably that any mentions of a "greater threat" by Palpatine during his reign was an excuse to hold power; the Vong invasion bolstering that was a coincidence.) The Force and The Dark Side: are they tools enabling justice or power? Or a single cunning entity manipulating everyone in the galaxy? Or at least the Jedi and the Sith. The two aspects of The Force are just that, aspects of one singular thing. Sith believe The Dark Side gives them power over The Force and others, but their quick descent into anger quickly makes them tools of it and not the other way around. Jedi, on the other hand, actively seek to follow the will of The Force because it has an Omniscient Morality License. What kind of long con it's trying to pull is anyone's guess. For that matter, is the Force intelligent? After all, the abilities possessed by the Jedi apparently come from microscopic creatures in their bloodstreams. We are expected to believe that these microscopic creatures are somehow able to convey the wisdom and guidance of the all-knowing, all-powerful Force. There are reasons to give that idea a healthy dose of scientific skepticism. Read about how Mitochondria have their own separate DNA chains. And... symbiont microorganisms serving as the conduit for the Force are less believable than cells in one's brain serving as one exactly how? For that matter, are midichlorians conduits for the Force at all? The correlation between midichlorian count and Force-sensitivity is well established, but the exact causal relationship between the two is never specified. While it's natural to assume that people are Force sensitive because they have a high midichlorian count, it could just as easily be the other way around. Perhaps midichlorians are harmless parasites that flock to hosts with large concentrations of Force energy in order to feed on its power. Or they could be simple quasi-lifeforms generated spontaneously in the bloodstream by the Force itself, but which have no tangible effect on the world beyond serving as a useful way of measuring Force-sensitivity. There is always the idea that the Canon are like history textbooks, created by and in the style of the "heroic" side. The Jedi are pure and benevolent and completely justified in their resistance of the Dark Side! Except.. while they depict the Sith as evil for using evil emotions, they themselves seem to eschew ALL emotions, and seem to consider all emotions, even the most positive, as evil ANYWAYS... What if the Sith were just another religious order, maybe hailing from a planet with a dangerously intense sun (thus, Dark Is Not Evil and Light Is Not Good for them), where they had learned to channel their passions and emotions in a positive way? Love to empower, fear transformed into to protection, anger at the injustice of the world mastered and channelled into focused will to accomplish good things.. Good, passionate people. Then in their spread across the Galaxy, they encounter another religion, the "Jedi". The Jedi, an order of strict and passionless fighters, are horrified at the blasphemous emotionality of the newcomers, and make them into Acceptable Targets in order to crush them in a patriotic, faith-based crusade... Thereafter, the very name of the other religion would be used to describe the violation of their stricture against emotionalism, and anyone walking their left-hand path would be labeled Sith. This isn't too far off from actual canon, which is that the Jedi and Sith are competing branches of the same religion which both became progressively more extreme to further distance themselves from the other. Most of the galaxy doesn't even know that there's a difference. Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some of these are simply a matter of player choice. Jedi Knight: Anything from a naive Wide-Eyed Idealist with a deadly weapon to a Knight Templar who is truly associated with the Dark Side. Trooper: Eagleland Type 1? A loyal, patriotic soldier with high ideals, the best example of Republic citizenry? Eagleland Type 2? A boorish, Sociopathic Soldier who shouts slogans before every battle, massacares civilians insdiscrimitely, and looks the other way when it's your side committing the abuses? As a Sith Warrior: Are you merely a Hot-Blooded warrior who saves his brutality for the battlefield, but otherwise prefers rational behavior? A nasty Blood Knight who wants to slaughter everything in his path? A cunning player who is gathering a power base so he's practically untouchable from his fellow Sith? A Wild Card who does as he damn well pleases, no loyalty to anyone (even the Empire), and backs up his arguments with a force choke if he has to? As a Sith Inquisitor: You start as a lowly slave plucked from the auction block once it's discovered you're Force Sensitive. So, are you loyal to the Sith now that you have a chance to move among them, or have you not forgotten how badly you were treated when the collar was around your neck? Are you gathering power as to destroy your fellow Sith, or so you are never hurt again? If you are light-sided, can you even be called a Sith, as your actions undermine the Empire from within and conversations with Ashara indicate that you both seek to Take a Third Option other than the rigid Jedi-Sith dichotomy? Imperial Agent: Do you believe My Country, Right or Wrong, serving the Empire despite its lack of competant leadership, fascist policies, and brutal racism? Are you a Wild Card who grows weary of your government's policies and just wants to stop the network of terrorists trying to destroy both major powers? A deep cover agent for the SIS (Republic Intelligence)? A person who has seen way too much and wants out, no matter who gets double-crossed? Smuggler: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything? A freelance business person trying to run as honest a ship as they can under the circumstances? A bloodthirsty pirate profiting off a galaxy-wide war? A privateer happy to help their Republic in a time of need for a share of the goodies? A crime boss in training? Loyal to the crew, but hang everyone else? Poe Dameron (as well as his main antagonist in his storyline, Vice Admiral Holdo). Is he an arrogant Leeroy Jenkins who deserves to be put in his place, or the Only Sane Man desperately trying to hold the crew together in the face of his superiors' apparent Head-in-the-Sand Management? Even more interpretations open up when the events of The Force Awakens are taken into account, as it's possible PTSD or general psychological strain may be influencing his actions as well. Did Luke really sense good in Vader/Anakin or was that just wishful thinking that turned out to be correct? He had lost two father figures already. Are Vader and Anakin literally separate people (through some combination of dissociative identity disorder and the Force) or just figuratively, and saying that is a coping mechanism for both Luke (who never saw how Vader Anakin could be and idolizes him), Obi-Wan (who can't reconcile the monster with his old friend) and even Anakin himself, (who associates all his happy memories with the time he was known by that name, unable to accept that both Anakin and those times weren't perfect.) |
