To answer your question!
I think Itachi is trying to make himself the furthest thing that Sasuke should ever become so when Itachi told Sasuke to kill his friend, he actually expected him to do the exact opposite or to never do that.

I think Itachi realized his mistakes after being reanimated. He saw how he failed with Sasuke, sending him down a dark path, by doing what he did. Reanimated Itachi has changed from the person he was when he was thirteen and massacred the clan, which is why he tells Naruto not to forget his friends. He also tells Naruto: "I tried to do everything by myself too. And I failed." While a member of the Akatsuki, Itachi was convinced he had to do everything all by himself. After dying and seeing what his actions did to Sasuke, Itachi realizes he was wrong and that it’s important to rely on other people.
As for him telling Sasuke to kill his best friend... that I'm not sure. Perhaps he considered Sasuke killing Naruto to be a necessary evil so that he could obtain the Mangekyou. Or perhaps he never believed Sasuke would actually go through with it and was just trying to make himself seem more despicable. I don’t know for sure.

Loved this! Who really understands Itachi? He choose the village over his own family and then tortured Sasuke, which everyone seemed to be fine with. If he wanted to die so badly he should've killed himself instead of tricking Sasuke to do it for him.
| Lavendor Queen chapter 36 . 10/20
I feel that the reason Itachi told Sasuke to kill his best friend is because it was believed that the Uchiha could gain a higher form of the sharigan, which would make him stronger. Yet Itachi told Naruto the opposite because he was aware that Naruto’s friendships made him stronger and also possibly to protect Sasuke in a roundabout twisted way, knowing the two boys were best friends and that if Naruto protected Sasuke, it would allow Sasuke to become stronger also and to give him a chance to one day kill Naruto
I think what I said makes sense...

Excelente. Pequeño, sustancioso y dulce. Me gusta pensar la sorpresa de Itachi ante el gesto de su mamá. Lindo.
