Great fic but sadly I was never able to go past the dichotomy of a 19 year old in a class of 15-16 year olds.
LuminouShadowAlt chapter 3 . 4/17
I used to really love Spider-Man, but over time I’ve grown to dislike how his core mottoWith great power comes great responsibilityhas been used and overused, especially in written media. It’s become a narrative shortcut for making protagonists ultra-altruistic to the point where they lose all sense of personal agency. They're no longer characters with complex desires and motivationsthey’re just vessels for doing good, and that makes it hard to connect with them on a human level.

In visual media, where aesthetics and action can carry a lot, that disconnect might not hurt as much. But in written stories, emotional connection is everything. When a main character is made into a saintalways choosing self-sacrifice, never expressing personal desire or conflictit distances the reader. Instead of feeling with the character, we’re asked to admire them from afar, which ironically weakens our ability to truly understand or empathize with them.

What also never sat well with me is this idea that if someone has powereven if they never asked for itthey now owe it to the world to work for its betterment. Sure, using power to do good is a noble thing. But the notion that it's the only morally acceptable path if you're powerful feels overly simplistic and unfair. What about those who just want to live a peaceful life, help when they can, but not be defined by their ability to help? Why is that seen as wrong or cowardly?

And if we take that idea furtherthat anyone with power must always use it for othersthen where do we draw the line? Everyone has some power. Should we all sacrifice our dreams and lives to help others constantly? Why is it okay for regular people to live their lives without that burden, but not okay for someone with extraordinary power to want the same?

These stories often try to inspire, but they can also end up guilt-tripping charactersand by extension, readersinto thinking that self-worth is only found in service to others. That’s a dangerous and limiting message when not explored with nuance.

One thing that really didn’t sit right with me was how Percy handled the exchange of information. He ended up revealing way too muchhis entire backstory, secrets, and internal reasoninginstead of sticking to what's necessary. This kind of over-explaining dilutes the power of his character and creates an imbalance in the interaction.

Every time characters exchange information, there’s a subtle power dynamic at play. The one who reveals less tends to hold more control, while the one who listens ends up in a more passive position. In this case, Percy giving out so much without any real prompting makes him come off as the weaker party. It unintentionally shifts the dynamic and undermines the strength of our main character too, who should ideally be positioned as an equal or even dominant figure in the scene.

Additionally, Percy’s constant apologizingespecially when explaining why they couldn’t pick up the weaponfelt unnecessary and even a bit submissive. It gave off the impression that he was overly cautious or even afraid, which further reduced the weight his character should carry in the narrative.

All in all, these choices made Percy feel less like a confident ally or guide and more like someone nervously trying to justify himself, which weakened both his presence and the overall tension of the scene.
LuminouShadowAlt chapter 4 . 4/17
Nope, this not for me. I just cant read Percy going to UA. Its like thise shitty naruto fics, where naruto is anbu at 12 but hiruzen fears he has no connection to people his age so makes some bs excuse of a mission to watch sasuke so naruto joins team 7. I just hate the dichotomy of Oercy studing with peers that are so inexperienced and weak compared to him, that this would suck to read.

The better alternative would have been to make Percy join the third year if you were so hellbent on UA or make you percy the Percy of early book like from the lightning theif.

I just can read end game 19 year old percy joining UA.

Also japanese first year high schoolers are typically 15-16 year old, and then you would have 19 year old join a class with classmates 3 year younger at best case and 4 year younger at worst case.
LuminouShadowAlt chapter 1 . 4/17
Ugh is he gonna join and be a student again. UA is technically a high school and Oercy should have already completed his. I dont see any benefit from educational standpoint and I doubt anything they could teach about combat would be worth to Percy. The only thing they could teach would be heroics—not heroism, that our hero Percy knows— you know rules regulations shit. But joining UA as a student just for that would be inefficient and waste of Percy's time. Rather than allowed to join some crash course or join some pro agency and learn. iirc there is known cases of vigilante given provisional licence after they join pro agency where they both learn and do heroics before getting the real licence you know like Captain Celebrity did.

Anon chapter 11 . 1/12
Will start off by saying I'm enjoying the fic a lot! That being said, I feel like you should have had Percy defeat the nomu after getting Poseidon's last bit of power. Pre-power up I can understand why you might not put him on par with All Might (even though everything you've written has made him feel up to par, but *shrug*), but him not defeating the nomu or even injuring shigaraki after getting the boost just makes Percy look weak.
thingsandstuff13 chapter 17 . 1/12
I’m enjoying reading about Percy acting like a papa bear so I’m glad you like writing him that way!
thingsandstuff13 chapter 16 . 1/12
Really interesting take on shinso, I liked it! I didn't mention it in my previous comment but I also like how you highlighted Percy not being great at rescue ops in the second event.
