| a random gondorian soldier chapter 1 . 6/2/2011
I hope they didn't force any 5 year old little boys to fight in battles, even 11 and 12 is too young to fight.
| MiniFruitbat chapter 1 . 8/19/2006
Sensitive, serious, and well-written. What is there not to like?
| Dragon-of-the-north chapter 1 . 6/1/2003
This is an excellent little vignette - your portrayal of the young man in both his ages (first as an uncomprehending child, then as a young warrior) is very convincing, and furthermore, you wonderfully show how memories of battles (represented by the songs about glorious deeds) and the gruesome reality of the battle differ. The essential fault of the young warrior seems to be that his expectations towards himself are too high - he measures himself against a picture of his father that is probably rather shaped by the glorious, mystifying tales of the great fight against the creatures of Sauron than by reality... But this is only realistic!
Great job! :-)
| Sphinx chapter 1 . 5/28/2003
Lovely story, especially considering it doesnt even involve one of the main characters. Reminded me a bit of the boy in the Battle of Helm's Deep, Haleth. Extremely realistic, it was a real treat to read. Thanks for putting it up.
