I just want to rant about JKR thinking that Ancient Runes is just learning languages. Plainly she is unaware of the tale of Egil Skalagrimsson who scratched runes around a chalice and infused them with his own blood to negate the poison which was served to him in it, and other, similar stories. But then, JKR is stupid enough to have Hermione confuse Ehwahz and Eiwahz although they do not look remotely similar. Runic magic, to my way of thinking, is not traced, in the way potions are not traced, and is a way of performing magic over the holidays. She neglects a seriously powerful branch of magic [especially if allied with Arithmancy]
