I get pacing power growth but I hate the inconsistency of his spine. One minute his spine is all shiny and he's lied to his mother and bluffing a pro hero but then he's talking to a kid or his bully and his spine becomes cooked spaghetti. Even in the anime I hate how izuku goes from badass in fights with murderers to mumbles the terrified coward in social interactions

Except he technically didn't, or at least not the letter of it. A Hero license is required to legally use your quirk to do hero work, otherwise it's Vigilantism... but his Chakra isn't a quirk, so he's in a legal loophole if he admits where it came from.
