OK this is gonna be a slightly different review format than my last few I think but I think it’ll be the best way for me to express my thots.

First off – the premise for this chapter is brilliant. The way you framed the issue on Alma’s part as an issue of good/bad TV, even if that isn’t the case? So smart. The way production got around it? Also brilliant. Because it makes sense – you’re showing the kids what will give them the most motivation. It just… happens to be mostly because of Vanya that everyone the others’ love is dead. I love how the subplot was woven in here – was not expecting to see more Mahina but I ain’t complaining, and I’m very :eyes: about what’s going on with Simon and Dean. This looks bad for Dean. And that last bit where they had to kinda nerf Vanya? Brilliant premise. I don’t understand why there was still red under her skin there – couldn’t they have like. Done it colorlessly? So it was less obvious? Anyway im very curious to see if people noticed what production did there. My instinct is to say yes. Because why would you have added the detail of the red light? But who knows. You do. And we will soon ig.

OK some notes on the kids in this chapter. Vanessa avoiding the kitchen bc that’s where Gio died? That shit hurted. Man. Big ouch. Rylan and Lior had an interesting arc here. I didn’t think that they would find their way to each other again after the cell blocks thing but it almost makes sense – theyre kind of like magnets to each other. Now that Vanya is gone I have a hunch Lior is gonna go for Rylan bc he was there and he lied. But we’ll see if that happens and how. Lior is with alex right now and I feel like that could lead to a confrontation and if Lior dies then obviously he can’t go for Rylan. Matty makes me ;-; all the time but like. At this point that’s kinda to be expected. From something in our dms I wonder if the fact that he’s in the gym so much will come to backfire later on. And I cannot say enough about what you’ve done with Alex. The fact that you’ve basically turned all of us around for her speaks volumes to what youre able to do with these kids’ arcs. Its really remarkable. I think my earliest reviews were “I appreciate her as a character but don’t like her as a person” and I feel like she’s grown so much here. I cannot wait to see how her arc comes to an end bc its really been so good.

Also rip Vanya we hardly miss ya. Have fun in hell with eden it’s the only place u deserve to be.

As always a really fantastic chapter! I can’t believe how close we are to the end. Such such great work and I can’t wait for more!

BLOCK A: Ok so we have a tentative truce between vanessa and remy that’s good for both of them. And lior coming in in the most lior way – I love him sm and I can tell how much you do too tbh he’s so fun. And now lior is just raring to go that can’t be good for the other two. He has done a murder before he can do it again. And remy and lior fight… and vanessa breaks the truce! Fascinating. Vanessa is such a good character. I feel bad that this is how remy went down but good on vanessa… but now what for lior… hm vanessa kind of leaves him be? Interesting. Curious.

BLOCK B: tension between alex and matty is unsurprising but hard to read. I can just. Feel both of their pain. It hurtz. And the way that alex reacts to the announcement is almost as painful as matt’s apathy. Theyre both so right in their pain its just PAIN ouch. And now alex is… being honest? Strikes me a bad move when ur alone with ur biggest obstacle to getting out of there alive. this whole thing is so interesting bc theyre both hurt in such different ways. and then matty goes for her… and then leaves her be… he didn’t even bring the knife… this is… fascinating all in all. Theyre gonna meet again I feel it.

BLOCK C: Oof emile ;-; choosing to help ellie was ofc what he was going to do, but it only got him killed which is so sad ;-; but also a fitting ending for him imo bc like, of course he would want to help someone else out in his death! It’s sad that he also managed to hurt ellie more in the process. He just wanted to try :plead: and now we get Rylan in here! Im glad he reunited with ellie and that he’s here for her. And also we have bronte here who is just so scared and sad I feel so bad for my baby ;-; and now we have the reveal that 3 of them have to die for the feast to be over. I guessed that im so cool. But this is also not so good bc three have to die that’s sad. Im just glad emile counts as a death? I think? But also ouch. Poor ellie just so sad about it. Vanya is there now with them… and she just leaves? AND VANYA’S LOOKING FOR SOMEONE? OH NO THAT’S NOT GOOD OUCH AHH NO NOT BRONTE. OK BRONTE GOT AWAY. SMORT GIRL KEEP AT IT. And oh no. that’s a tw. That’s so bad. Not a tw with bronte no no no. ok so Rylan has realized that he can get one of them out if he tries that’s good that’s good. But now Vanya has bronte. I don’t like this. And the pain. Nonononon not my baby em y u do this. And then Rylan helps ellie get away that’s good. She’s so hurt I feel bad. But then he sees Vanya take bronte on he goes to get her right? This part is blurry bc worried for my baby. And then he mercy kills ellie :plead: he tried to save bronte and couldn’t and ellie still died. But she probably would have died anyway bc she’s so hurt so im just glad she didn’t suffer as much as she could have.

So at this point in the chapter im like satiated. We know ellie goes down. There’s been 3 deaths. Everyone is safe. And then there’s this bronte bit and she manages to protect Rylan in her death but there she goes in just one quick swipe. It hit me like a ton of bricks bc I thought she was safe and then she wasn’t ;-; but em I can’t thank you enough for what you did with her. Yes it was painful at times but I’m so glad that she was in your capable hands :plead: I can’t wait for you to cause me even more pain in the future. Yeah I know I shouldn’t be excited but. Here we are.

Em! This was such a good chapter. Ive been struggling to figure out exactly how to review it just because there’s so much good stuff in it but im gonna do my best to go through it here. This ellie and emile bit here was great! Their relationship has ebbed and flowed so much this story and it was nice to see the two of them wind up in that position again. I find it interesting how in her wanting to feel safe she’s kind of hurting him more? What a fascinating pairing honestly. And then the railing shatters oh dear.

Cell Block A: well, this took a turn. I knew from the moment Vanessa and Remy agreed on their truce (Milan/Medina who) that something would go wrong. Part of that, of course, stems from the fact that I knew Remy was going to die here beforehand (Sorry Ben, I told you he’d get a good placement!), but I was intrigued to see how it shaped up. For a time, I expected Lior to be his downfall, but then Remy pinned him down and Vanessa striking the final blow started to make a whole lot more sense. I liked her inner dialog here, even if I would have liked for Remy to stay around for a bit longer. I’m thankful for the time we got to spend with him, though, and the character development we got out of it!

Cell Block B: this was an interesting match-up! I hadn’t even thought about them having history (known to Matt, of course) until Alex mentioned her involvement in Bear’s death. It made for a truly harrowing interaction, and brought out a side in Matt that was heartbreaking to witness. A lot is needed to make someone as soft as he want to actually strangle someone, and it makes me wonder if he will go get the knife and get his revenge after all. A part of me doubts it, because Alex is starting to give off major winner vibes. I might not like her, but I respect the development she’s been going through, and how differently she acts now from the girl we saw in the first intro chapter is very very impressive.

Cell Block C: where do I begin? Emile’s death didn’t surprise me, per se, I’ve felt like his end’s been growing closer for quite some time now. That doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt, though. He had a fitting death, succumbing to help someone else (even if landing on top of Ellie did more damage to her than anything else lmao). The effect it had on Ellie also made me like her a little more, somehow? That didn’t last for long, because then she was dead as well. Rylan might have been the most surprising killer in this chapter. His engaging with Vanya, alone, made me absolutely sh00k. It hurt to see that he couldn’t save Bronte, as well. She deserved so much better than what she got. I’m proud of her for acting out at the start of the fight, but that didn’t get her very far unfortunately. By now, Vanya just needs to die. I’m over her torture kink bye.

Thank you for writing Emile, you handled him as well as you have all of my characters in the past! His story was a pleasure to read.

Alex: she’s really going through it, isn’t she? There are a lot of layers to her at this point, which is fascinating to witness. But you know me I’m not budging from my dislike. I am interested, though, to see how she acts in the aftermath of having been secluded for a time. Something tells me she won’t be quite as eager to kill in the feast as she was at the start.

Remy: oof. The slow processing of his emotions towards what happened to Renauld is so well done, and cuts so much deeper than it has any business doing. It sucks that now’s the time he has to go through the worst of his grief, considering he’s smack in the middle of a deathmatch, but I suppose that now is better than never. I hope the guilt can propel him forth rather than hold him back. As a motivator, it could make him even more powerful than he already is.

Matt: can you stop coming for my heart? It’s not nice Em, to make me feel the things I’m feeling rn. Matt doesn’t deserve any of this, especially not becoming a forgotten bloodstain in someone’s prison cell. Bear’s death has done such a number on him, and I’m afraid of what it’ll mean for his future. As with Remy, this is not a time to grieve, but how could he not?

Bronte: her fear is so valid. I would be terrified, too, if I was in her position. Cell Block C might hold the most contestants left, but what does that matter if Vanya is going to target Bronte? We can’t be sure that she will, of course, but the probability is too high for my liking. Hopefully she can use that knife to defend herself from having her life snuffed out.

Rylan/Lior: they are both right to be worried. Rylan belongs to the cell block with most contestants still alive, whilst Lior is going to have to square off against Vanessa and Remy. Their fates both seem up in the air so far, and though Lior feels a lot more likely to make a kill than Rylan, his competitors are two of the fiercest people left standing. Rylan has numbers on his side, and the fact that he doesn’t have conflict with anyone, but what means little in the bigger scheme.

Emile: everyone got the same weapon, then? It makes sense that production would ensure fairness in the upcoming fight by giving all contestants the same tools, but that will probably only help those who are willing to fight. To the rest, it’s useless. Emile seems to fall somewhere in the middle. There’s a part of him that wants to do everything in his power to survive (the living demon), but there’s another part that wants to give in (the dead saint). I am not ready for either :sob:

Vanya: personally, in the question about destroying the world or herself, I’d prefer the latter. To think that Vanya was one of my first favorites, only to end up being the person I like least (even below Alex). How the mighty have fallen. I’m manifesting her death in the feast, but we shall see whether it happens. It sucks that she has so much lasting power. Ugh.

Vanessa: she’s almost the direct opposite of Vanya, in the sense that she started quite low in my ranking and is now placed firmly near the top. Vanessa is still not the most likable person, but has become special because of her association with the best boy in Canada - Gio. We miss him the same, and so I feel a strong connection. I hope her time isn’t up yet.

Ellie: excuse me, what is happening. Cliffhangers are offensive in themselves, but involving my child? Not ok. I’m panicking. I don’t even know what else to say. I had a feeling the Emile/Ellie situation might come to a head during the feast, but I didn’t see it coming so soon, whatever it was that Emile just did. Fear fear fear. I hate it here. I’m leaving.

This chapter had such a sexy format, damn. I love that we got a quieter moment from those living, and a part that honored those who have passed. The feast is starting to really scare me now. I’m not ready for it. Heeeeeeeeelp.

Hi Em, I'm here once again to bless you with a review of yet another fabulous chapter. I must say that your writing is just drawing me in and I'm glued to these. Let's get it!

Bronte/Remy/Vanessa - This trio is a really interesting trio to me because for some reason they just don't work together and yet here they are. Vannessa is so frustrated with Gio leaving and so broken about it and my heart breaks for her because we all really did love him. Bronte meanwhile is just doing her best to keep peace and offer comfort and it's nice to see her taken on a mediator role rather than freezing from fear over what Eden and Vanya are doing. It's good to see her more proactive. Vannessa wanting to jump the railings is SO SMART if the rules really have been suspended and I wonder if she'll do it and get ZAPPED or if she'll escape oop! Meanwhile I looove this Remy arc we're getting of him understanding the idea of emotion and him opening himself up to the possibility of feeling them again. Him crying and feeling the weight lift from his chest is another step into allowing himself to start healing.

Bear/Matt - This broke me, I HATE IT HERE! matt and Bear just looking at each other through the glass as he died? No. I cannot allow you to do this to me. This is MEAN, this is BULLYING, I feel ATTACKED Miss Olive, I can't deal. They were so cute as a duo working so hard together and now Bear is dead...Vanya girl she really cut him up but I'm not about that life, I do not support it. I wonder what the hell Matt's going to do now - will he resort to violence or will he succumb to his own grief?

Vanya - She's grieving and I get that, she's desperate to find Eden's killer, but the cameras aren't showing her it's Remy, although I feel like it'll be a matter of time before they do. I definitely feel a whole emotionless revenge arc coming on and I totally vibe with that. She's lost her Eden and she's valid in being mad asf. Her killing Bear made sense for me as well - Vanya feels very much like she's the type to ignore her emotions and just go on a merciless killing spree.

Ellie - She's doing a lot better than I thought she would and her arc has been really interesting as well. Independence seems to have made her stronger, although she's one of the three on Lior's hit list and she better watch out if she doesn't want to become Kale dressing. That being said, the amount of stuff she's been through? Insane. She keeps bouncing back - while I'm not the fondest of her I can see her tenancity and I admire it.

Emile - Boii that final 10 announcement ft some food really does temporarily lift some spirits I guess? That is...until the feast. I have a feeling that this one might be a gory one since a few characters have some vendettas so it'll be cool to see it all play out. Who will die? I'm not sure and honestly I don't want to think about it. It does feel a littleup in the air after a couple of key players were remomved but there's a few I'm keeping my eye on, most notably Vannessa, Vanya, Alex.

Lior/Rylan - These 2 have formed the weirdest alliance and yet they just work? I think the whole avenging Moe idea has definitely brought the two togeter and Lior's snark is balanced by Rylan's sweeter side. I always laugh at the idea they're an allies with benefits type deal and neither of them clearly trust the other so I wouldn't be surprised if the time came when they turned on eachother!

Alex - She's really gone up in my ranks. Before, she wasn't a nice person, but she's been taught a lesson and knocked down a few pegs and she's definitely a player for the victory I think. She got lucky with the gift of access but at the same time there's moral decisions and she's getting trauma from it. These decisions she makes ends up in people losing their lives and tbh I do feel for her. She's been completely stripped back to reveal who is really lying behind the whole Alex facade and I'm enjoying her character a lot more.

Hmm...maybe I should send in more tweets to cause you pain! Another great chapter regardless, I'm excited for what's coming next!

Alex: It’s starting to feel like my continued refusal to like her is painting me in a bad light, but I’m nothing if not persistent and we all know that you love a good theme. Maybe I’m the true villain of The Cut. Anyway, vomiting!Alex is definitely more bearable than maffia!Alex, and I do admit that forcing her to instigate conflict against her will makes her quite pitiable. Her arc is picking up, but I will not feel sorry.

Vanya: looks like someone is getting vengeful. Remy lucked out here, with the camera feed showing Eden’s death but not who committed the deed. The same can’t be said for Bear, of course, but I never expected Vanya to sit idle. She feels more like a person whose driven to do more damage from the lack of knowledge rather than laying low until the mystery is figured out. Curious to see if she’ll get her revenge.

Rylan/Lior: I see they stayed together after all. I’m all for it, as they bring a fun and interesting dynamic to the table. Rylan brings out a somewhat softer side in Lior, even if he would rather not admit it, and Lior might help Rylan acquire some of the toughness he will need in order to win. Also, at the risk to sound like a horrible human being once more, I enjoyed Lior’s comments on Ellie up on the balcony. Sorry not sorry.

Ellie: (I realize she doesn’t appear until much later in the chapter, but her part involves the boys above so I thought I’d put it here). An infection close to the brain does indeed not sound very nice, and something that is probably good to attempt staying clear of. With that said, i’m having a very hard time seeing in what direction she’s going. She could be the next to die, she could make it really far, I have no idea whatsoever.

Bronte: awh, smol bean. I like that she’s starting to stand up for herself more, but I’m fearful of the consequences it will have for her. With Remy and Vanessa by her side, she had some protection on her side if Vanya suddenly come stumbling upon her. Now that she’s alone, and that she has to go back to the cell block within twelve hours, she’ll be forced to confront her former ally again. I hope that this isn’t her end.

Remy: this boy’s arc is getting so good what. I just love how he’s grown from an numb husk who did everything in his power to dismiss his brother’s death, to someone who can’t help but deal with the emotional fallout. The Cut is probably not the best place to deal with everything going on in his head, but it makes sense that he would be forced to when he’s confronted the way he is. Ugh, this kid is so good, I love.

Vanessa: losing Gio had really done a number on her, which is expected and unexpected at the same time. The first because they were getting very close, and the latter because she didn’t show a lot of affection for her once he was still alive. She was starting to right before Vanya came to ruin everything that was good in the world, but she didn’t really have any chance to do it properly, and maybe she regrets that ;-;

Matt/Bear: Ooof! This duo has been a staple of wholesomeness since they met each other, and though I had the spoiler privilege of knowing that it would end this chapter, I didn’t expect Bear’s demise to be quite this hurtful. I should have believed you when you said it would be horrible. Fuck Vanya for doing that. Having your mouth cut open sounds excruciatingly painful. And the fact that Matt had to watch ;-;

Emile: Mac and cheese! As you know, that’s not a dish that I overly enjoy, but the nostalgic factor of him having made it during pre-games is enough to make me go all UwU. It’s a fun idea, giving them a sort of equivalent to sponsor gifts for having reached top 10. What worries me, though, is the obligatory feast next chapter. Vanya is the last person I want him to be in close proximity to; please don’t hurt my son ;-; ;-; ;-;

Simon: is he talking to the ”rebels”? Is he getting in on some secret scheme? I’m intrigued :eyes:

this remy vanessa blowup was huge. there was a moment in there where i thought remy was gonna die but he did not so good for him! i'm honestly not surprised that the emotion came out like this from Vanessa - she's such an emotional character in a good way so it makes perfect sense she'd feel so strongly. i feel like i can feel her pain - and i can feel remy's here too. but what's going to happen next with them?
