character thoughts:
Drusilla: really interesting character. in an arranged marriage, struggling to keep up with politics, but appearing to have it all very organized because she is a girlboss ! i've always loved the name Drusilla so i expected to like her and i was right! i didn't get too much info on her character yet tho, so we will see where the story takes us
Cornelius: this man is something special let me tell you that. i feel like he's going to throw a big curveball both on us the audience but the capitol audience of the hunger games too when we get farther in. the issue with him though is i feel like i didn't get the biggest understanding of his layers as a character, i don't really understand who he is? the rest of the story will prob help me fill in those blanks tho
i also realized i forgot to do Festus and Vesper last chapter so-
Vesper: HER NAME IS SO GOOD. alliteration 3 v names 3. okay so she basically worked so hard her whole life and she did a lot of stuff and now it's paying off. she kinda reminds me of u? in a way. she's such a cool and interesting character and i think my favorite so far because we really understood her backstory compared to the others !
Festus: i love this man. he is so cool and i am excited to see what he fucks up because i know he will be fucking something up. also his name is so good too i can't get over it. he seems like a layered character, clearly veiling insecurities or shortcomings but i think that's what makes him a good character!

OWA OWA I am here to do the reviewing of the sexy ass blog for this sexy ass story. I’m so beyond hyped for this story and this cast so let’s just get into it.

Kleio Regalia-Well hello miss Kleio whose name will give me whiplash considering the name of one of my own tributes. Either way I still absolutely adore the name and her fc is absolutely gorgeous. Her s/ws are very intriguing. I love having efficient and logical as strengths. She seems like the most levelheaded out of the Career pack based on that alone. Her weaknesses are even more interesting to me though. They really go well with her strengths, and that suppressed trait is what really piques my interest. What could she be suppressing? Also that 2nd place pp :eyes:

Isamu Nomura-OKAY I SEE YOU WITH THE PRETTY BOY SWAG. I love this guy’s fc. It’s giving very much professionalism and I really like that. His s/ws were off putting at first until I realized that I am literally all of those things. So pop off I guess Isamu. In all seriousness I think his s/ws are a great balance of rationality and irrationality. I’m really interested to see what he’ll bring to the table.

Challenger Higanbana-I see we’re back on the Sakura Heffron fc trend. Love that for us. And I absolutely fucking love her s/ws. One of them’s even my Divergent faction lol. And I love having insidious as a strength as well. However, I find myself even more interested in Chal's weaknesses. I wonder what type of controversy she could stir up. I just have a feeling that Chal is gonna be a hot ass mess and I’m here for it.

Pantheon Lexicus-Okay I see we have another pretty boy in the Career pack. Like seriously, why can’t I look like Theo? It’s not fair I fucking hate it here :huff: N E wayz I am once again interested in those s/ws. They seem to complement each other really well. It looks like each of his strengths influences another one of his strengths and it’s the same with the weaknesses. Now for the real question-is he delusional because he is broken or is he broken because he is delusional? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Megumi Earheart-Okay first of all I love her name. It just rolls off the tongue so well. Also once again the fc is absolutely gorgeous. Her s/ws also just go very well with the overall vibes I’m getting from her. She seems like a total sweetheart and I feel so sorry for her because I just know she’s in for a hell of a lot of trauma.

Casper Codarin-Our first real youngster of the cast I see. And he’s another pretty boy omg what is it with these pretty ass fcs like c’mon I can’t compete WTF T_T. But nah fr tho I really like this little dude. He seems like he’ll be a really tough nut to crack based on his s/ws and I love that. Stoic? Calculated? WITHDRAWN? TEPID? SIGN ME TF UP NEOW! I can’t wait to meet this kid omg he’s so cool I love him already.

Maeve Kurzick-Holy mother of god lemme pick my jaw up off the floor right quick because this girl is absolutely positively STUNNING. Seriously like the way she is just staring at me makes me so shy uwu. I love her s/ws so much too. She really strikes me as a Career leader type despite having some drawbacks due to her weaknesses. And that 1st place pp I see you Maeve. Kaleo’s DP is so fucking cool I stan her.

Kaleo Kapono-LOOK AT MY SON LOOKIN ALL CUTE AND SHIT. Holy shit I love this man so much it’s fucking unhealthy. He’s my literal pride and joy and omg I just can’t. Everyone should stan this kid and I won’t accept any other opinions. I absolutely love him to death and maggie I can’t wait for you to break my heart and permanently scar me for life. I’m so fucking excited to see what you have planned for Kaleo :eyes:

Marion Galvanstein-Okay miss gurl I see you being all pretty and whatnot. I know that this is a Will tribute so I know that my already lofty expectations will be greatly exceeded. Her strengths make her seem like a real creative type which is extra dope. I always love a good creative tribute. I’m not gonna front I had to look up what a couple of her weaknesses meant and now I get a real rebellious vibe from her. I have a feeling that she and Martino could potentially get along well and it would be fucking dope if one of my tributes was associated with a Will tribute in any fashion.

Gadiel Hollis-Gade’s fc looks so cool I fucks with it heavily. His s/ws give me the impression that he’s a really easygoing dude that’s easy to get along with. He does seem a little unmotivated though, and that normally doesn’t mean good things for the games. I’m still very interested in finding out what this dude’s all about and I can’t wait to meet him.

Valentina Ferrari-OKAY HOLY FUCKING SHIT PLEASE STEP ON MY FUCKING NECK VALENTINA BC YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AS FUCK. HER S/WS? FUCK ME UPPP. Composed, confident, imposing, inflexible, AND selfish? Valentina, your hand in marriage please and thank you. I can’t wait to officially meet you.

Vance Esser-Ummm guys I think we’ve found them. We’ve found the two pretty best friends. Idc if they don’t know each other. D6 is the two pretty best friends. Also this guy is right up my alley. Those s/ws are literally me. Vance and I are the same person. I think I’m gonna absolutely love this obviously problematic sonuvabitch I can’t wait to meet him.

Yara Foxglove-Umm hello miss thang you are very pretty I like that. I love her strengths. Resilient, insightful, and sensible is a hell of a killer combo that I can really get behind. However, I can see her weaknesses causing quite a few issues, especially hypocritical. I’m really interested in where she’ll go as a character and I think I’ll be teetering the line of a love/hate relationship during her run. Nonetheless I’m very excited for her. Also don’t think I didn’t peep that 5th place pp.

Riot Halen-Okay first off THEIR NAME?! Love it. Love the vibes it gives off. Their strengths once again really appeal to me. I’m a sucker for a creative tribute. Plus I’m very interested in how those compassionate and forthright traits are gonna go together. Reckless, stubborn, and emotional is always a very fun trio of weaknesses as well. Riot seems like a real one and I can’t wait to meet them.

Katla Lovell-Katla’s faceclaim is so fucking cute I can’t deal omg. Her s/ws are super neat as well. I like a good adaptable tribute. Combine that with approachable and principled and you have a recipe for a very likable character in my opinion. Her weaknesses go hand in hand as well which is always neat too. I’m vv excited to meet miss Katla.

Maleek Alami-Okay his fc is adorable it’s giving me real hair envy. Like seriously why can’t my hair do that T_T. This young bull seems like he’s already been through a lot and he’s only thirteen. I tip my hat at this resilient king. His s/ws indicate a LOT of baggage and I can’t help but feel a bit sorry for him. I’ll definitely be rooting for this kid throughout his run.

Edelyn Vasser-aye gurl yhu find as he’ll i won’t u. Foreal tho her fc is gorgeous as fuck. I also get a feeling that she’s been through some shit based on her s/ws. I can’t really pick up on anything else for her, which actually makes me more intrigued. Still, she seems to be very well-equipped for the Games and I can’t wait to see what she’s all about.

Oren St. Magdalene-Okay first off his faceclaim is cute asf ngl. AND HIS S/WS? Is this another simp I see. Him and Kaleo would get along well. Well, probably not but I get very similar vibes. He seems like a real gentleman and I can’t hate on that. His weaknesses lead me to think that he can get stuck in his own mind. I’m really pumped to see what this guy will do.

Marshall Catelli-HOLY FUCKING SHIT MARCH FUCKING FUCK ME THE FUCK UP YOU’RE SO FUCKING GORGEOUS IT FUCKING HURTS! She can literally step on my throat and I’d thank her. No cap. I love her s/ws so much. She strikes me as a real snake and honestly I love that for her. She could really cause some problems in the Games and I can’t wait to see what she does.

Jachin Abergel-First of all, I freakin love the name. It’s dope as fuck. Jachin’s s/ws also make me smirk a little. I’m a sucker for unpredictable tributes. They always keep things interesting and I’m sure there will never be a dull moment with this guy around. I love intrusive as a weakness. I really hope it means what I think it means because all sorts of trouble can come out of not being able to mind your damn business. Also I see that 8th place pp :eyes:

Avila Soumare-And now we have another adorable youngster that’ll definitely break me at one point or another. I love the combination of inventive and mischievous as strengths and I really hope she uses that to give other tributes grief. But those weaknesses though, classic young tribute weaknesses that I’m always weary about because it’s usually bad news. I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on Avila and what she’ll be up to.

Martino Santana-AYYYYE LOOK AT MY SECOND SON LOOKIN HANDSOME AS FUCK. My boy really looks like he’ll bust out the lightskin face any second. I absolutely adore this kid and I can’t wait to see what you do with him which will also inevitably break me.

Rei Kassir-Okay put a picture of her next to e-word in the dictionary because she is fucking beautiful. And her name? *chef’s kiss* Her s/ws are definitely on brand because she sure as hell is compelling. I am beyond invested in what’s in store for her. Her weaknesses give me a sense that she might be a little high-strung and honestly it’s always fun reading those types of characters.

Oriole Morgenstern-Hello sir, looking all handsome and shit. He seems like a real analytical type and that is right up my alley. I really like honesty as a strength although I do think that it can be a bit of a double-edged sword. He also seems like he’s very much stuck in his ways based on his weaknesses, which is always interesting since he could either stick to his guns or change throughout his run.

And with that I have reviewed every single tribute of APD and I had a hell of a lot of fun doing it. I am beyond stoked for this story and what’s sure to be one hell of a ride. I can’t wait to officially meet all of these guys and follow them along their journey throughout this SYOT. Maggie, I know you’ll fucking rock this shit and I can’t wait to see you do just that.

Awwwwwwwwwwwhhh yeahhhhhh! We got our boy Cornelius out here! I was pondering to myself who else we could get POVs from before I came to this chapter, and Cornelius was definitely on my list of who I wanted to see. It's just so curious how he was chosen to succeed the last head gamemaker that it needed a justification.

The political plans of the Hennigan family is incredible. Like, they so quickly took their money and weaponized it. Heartbreaking to think that Drusilla would be turned into a mere pawn in their game of money and power, but I feel like that happens a lot to families in this sort of position. I have a lot of empathy for her and her situation. It breaks my heart to see that she had big dreams and plans and the possibilities could've been endless for her had she not become their 'sacrificial lamb' as you so beautifully worded it.

I really like the relationship between Cornelius and Drusilla as well - they've got such a bright fire within them both. I'm always here for a great friendship arc, and we've got the childhood friends reuniting here and the flame is just flickering so deliciously. Ope. i'm overwhelmed with my feelings for them. I feel like without the friendship, I wouldn't find myself so attached to our little Cornball here. Mostly because I think I'm in love with Drusilla? but that's unimportant until the next time I feel the need to ramble on about it.

Actually, I do feel the need to ramble a bit more about it. Drusilla feels so close to me in my mind but I just can't quite place it? WAIT! i know, i know what deja vu is calling to me, they feel like Tiana and Lottie from the Disney princess and the frog. Drusilla is Lottie - the friendly, fun, dancing in the artificial starlight with money and power. That's exactly why I like her so much. With a flick of her wrist, she gave Cornelius what he would've had to work callouses into his hands with years of striving for. As if it were merely nothing. I'm living for her, Drusilla is the love of my APD life.

i love when we alter the canon as well, so seeing that the 74th games was won by our resident D10 boy is fantastic. i know joeseph gets all the memes for being our d10 lover, but I too am a whore for the district of livestock. feel free to me bc i'm here for d10 every time even thought i am a tribute submitter with RANGE and one cannot simply TYPECAST me like that. lmao. Once again, though, I find myself just smitten with the way you've managed to sprinkle in this exposition into friendly dialogue like it was nothing. a goddess you must be, truly, gracing us with character development, plot movement, and exposition just sitting there masquerading as a simple conversation between friends. me oh my.

I KEEP READING HIS NAME AS FETUS AND I KNEW RIGHT FROM THAT MOMENT THAT HE WAS UP TO THE DARNDEST OF THINGS AND I DIDN'T TRUST HIM ONE BIT. FRICK YOU FETUS DENARO, I KNOW THAT YOU'RE A DASTARDLY ONE. I'll calm myself eventually. Girl. I'm so smitten. I'd read this even if there weren't tributes happening, that's how invested I have become. I am but a worm inching towards this story with love and wriggles. I can't wait for the next prologue and I hope that you start feeling better soon heart heart heart.

Opening with the murder of the head gamemaker, eh? we are peas in a pod, Maggie. Lol. In all seriousness, though, I think that starting with a murder is such a brilliant way to immediately invest the reader into whatever Capitol subplot there is to come. I'm always down for a murder mystery if we're going to have one of those - i cannot wait to guess a million times who dunnit just to be wrong every single time.

I really really really like Vesper already too. There are a million different roles in the Capitol that you could've chosen to start the story with, and I think that she has a very unique role. Being in media and speech writing is a job that I haven't seen people use very often and there are a few different things that I can gather about Vesper just from that occupation. She's eloquent, she's intelligent, and she had relations with some of the most powerful people in the country while simultaniously not being in the spotlight herself. Like, she doesn't have to really align herself politically with the people in power, which makes her thoughts about the landscape of Panem a story to unravel. It's a really cool position to have a character in.

You've also seamlessly woven in the drama that is going on with the gamemakers so smoothly that I barely even noticed it as exposition. It is interesting that a young gamemaker would be chosen over some of the more seasoned ones - what does it say about the games we're about to witness that we've got a brand spankin' new little gamemaker trying to make a name for themselves? I think that a curveball in the games is actually much more likely than our guest Festus is guessing. Vesper is one step ahead of him, despite his correct guessing for the placement (which I'm just saying now that I definitely think is too good to be mere luck).

I've been watching too many true crime interrogations lately to not see it shining so clearly in Vesper. She not only knows how to ask the right questions to get her interviewees squirming in their seats, but she seems to like it. She enjoys the power that it gives her. She has the prowess of a great investagative journalist and I'm enamoured by her.

Can I just throw out here right now that I feel like Festus might have something to do with this gamemaker's murder? IDK, it seems like Festus and the deceased gamemaker could've been working together to make sure that his placings were always correct... But at the same time, I'm unsure of how Festus could be so suer of another sweep with a brand new gamemaker that he doesn't know. Unless he does know the new gamemaker. Hmmmmm I'm becoming to speculative for my own good, so I will move on.

I'm ready for Vesper to go into the gambling scene and destroy it from the inside out, man. I'm pumped. I think that there's so much lurking behind the gambling scene that's been implied here and Vesper is clearly just the gal for the job. Boy oh boy, I'm pumped for it. But I'm always hella late to the review party and have quite a few to tick of the list, so I'm gonna leave it there. Great chapter, Maggie. Your writing is stunning, I'm so excited to be on the journey of your first SYOT thooooo!

Your character development already has me both loving and hating these characters — I'm deeply impressed.

Can't wait to read more, and find out if my baby was picked!

I bet the final prologue will be about Festus. He just seems so interesting and makes me want to learn more about him. Also love the fact that the District 10 boy with the bad leg won. Wished I could learn more about his Games. :)

Hello Ms. 2000! I am back.

I very much enjoyed this chapter, as I did the first one. It was fun meeting the head gamemaker, and to see his rise to power as well. It is not often we see someone get to their position through being good friends with the First Lady of Panem - I found that a very interesting twist on the more common backstabbing and competition-like power plays. I’m excited to see what he does with the games later on in this story!

And speaking of the First Lady, Drusilla was an intriguing character to get to know as well. I love a good bit of political intrigue, so although i feel bad about her arranged marriages I found myself enjoying getting an insight into her role in Panem’s political climate. I can’t remember a lot of president’s spouses from hg fanfiction before, actually, so that made it even more interesting!

Ooooh! And the mention of the 74th and 75th hunger games! Good stuff.

Can’t wait for the cast reveal!

Well it is time for Prologue Two! Very excited to see whatever shit Mr. Head Gamemaker gets up to.

Cornelius: It was really interesting learning about the arranged marriage stuff and the way that powerplays were in the Capitol. It was super interesting to learn about. I was always really curious as to the way that the actual political structure within the Capitol worked, and I really liked all the stuff that you came up with here. OOOO mhmm more political powerplays. Being Head Gamemaker is such a dangerous position lmaooo. Job security is total shit for that position. This last line before the line break...wow. I love that so much. So perfectly crafted.

It was kinda cool hearing about how Colton won. He really betrayed Foxface like that. It's a shame really. She didn't trust anyone but herself, but allowed him to be by her side only to be betrayed. Rip. It is very big brain for Colton to win though. Cato is far overdone, and I am sucker for a thresh or Foxface win, but this is simply so neat and we love to see it. Oh and Fetus is back at it again. This seems like such a good Political thriller in the making and I am eager to keep up with this subplot. Simply very sexy. Since this year isn't a quell, I am very curious to see what kind of flare Neely adds to the Games. Much to think about...
