![]() ![]() ![]() I really enjoyed this! It gave a different perspective on the kidnapping and how dark things could turn. The twist that it had been a recording was well written and clever. Poor Mokuba, I really felt for him, and I'm sure those moments where he thought Seto was unfeelingly watching were really difficult, even after he found out it had been a recording. Overall this is a well written piece. Thanks so much for sharing it! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Where to even begin with a beautiful story like this? First of all, I think it’s funny that you thought I would be mad at you for this story. If you had, in fact, pulled one of Mokuba’s teeth—I would be FURIOUS! XD But thankfully that didn’t happen… but man, you really kept us on the edge, didn’t you? That was the most painful scene to read; I read and re-read it a couple times actually. It’s so raw and real. I feel like I’m in that room every time I read it. I feel as trapped as Mokuba does with his lack of energy from being starved and the fear. OMG, the fear… wow, you know how to SET A SCENE. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time during that scene with him and the kidnapper! I did not expect to be so captivated at 6am this morning but I was, and it shot me right out of bed. It was truly an incredible scene. And I love the simplistic backstory of why Mokuba is there (kidnapped) in the first place. You were able to set the stage and dive right in—exactly what I want in a Kaiba bros fanfic! Thank you for that. :) Also, can we talk about how funny it was the multiple times Mokuba mentioned how often he gets kidnapped? It was so, so funny while maintaining the overall of darkness in the story. I do see where you would think I would be upset from this story because, I agree, it’s certainly on one of the darker sides. But like I said, the fact that Mokuba didn’t actually lose one of his teeth and the fact that Seto and Mokuba did make up made it all worth it for me. I also wanted to note that I was surprised by the direction of the story at the end—where Mokuba is self-isolating because of the uncertainty, not because he was mad at Seto. I thought he was going to be mad at Seto for letting something like this happen or trivializing these nobodies who are clearly somebodies (great line btw), but I’m glad it was bred out of uncertainty, not of hatred. See, the only reason I would be mad at you is if you 1. Gravely harm Mokuba. 2. Seto and Mokuba fight but don’t make up. I’m sure Seto and I would agree that if we lived in a world where Mokuba wasn’t Seto’s number one fan, we’d question whether this was real life. Which is why the Virtual World arc is SO GOOD even though it’s technically not canon—because their relationship is questioned and put to the test! But wow, I think this actually kinda revealed an underlying reason as to why I love this show/these characters; no matter what, Seto and Mokuba will always have each other’s back. I love that so much… the fact that they do have this constant love and loyalty for each other. Which .GEE… can we talk about how great the title for this is? WOW, I was blown away. I absolutely LOVEEE when a title of a story comes in at the end or close to the end (or the middle sometimes!) if the title isn’t inherently clear right off the bat. And I just deeply appreciated that and thought it was so clever how you tied that in there. Or did you always know that would be the title? Actually, side note, please let me know which came first: the idea for the story, the title, or the line at the end. I would love to know! All in all, this was a really incredible story. Great pacing, great description, great length, and great plot. I haven’t read a one-shot in a long time, but this should be the example that’s shown to people if they’re interested in writing a one-shot themselves. I love the Kaiba brothers so much and you wrote them so well, it made my heart sing. This was a fantastic birthday present! Thank you for writing it and publishing it for me on my special day. :D Love, Kari |
