I finished reading the story at its alternate location but wanted to leave a review here because I have an account. This was a very good story. The character development was interesting, I like the way Harry started to look like Snape, and I generally thought you captured most characters behaviors accurately. I have to admit I didn't enjoy the brief relationship and flirtation between Harry and Hermione. I also thought the second to last chapter dragged on a bit unnecessarily.

Despite those few mild complaints, I think you did a really good job on this story. Congratulations on seeing it through to the end. :)

I have been absolutely fascinated with this fic and am loooking forward to the nest chapter.

I've read this fic on Schoogle... more than once, actually. Several times, in fact. Every couple of years when I'm stumped for a good fanfic to read, I gravitate back to it. I haven't left you a review yet, because I'm a twerp, I guess... but now I'm trying to overcome my twepery and tell you how much I love this fic. And what in particular I love.

Well, for starters, I love every single thing about it, but in particular I love your characterizations - of practically everyone, because they stay true to the spirit and the reality of canon *while managing to make everyone likeable.* That is damn hard to pull off! I well know how difficult it can be to strike that balance between making someone sympathetic and sugarcoating them; or making them problematic while rendering them unlikeable. Perhaps you did it intuitively, but either way, it's remarkable and I suit you. I still felt that Remus and Severus possessed canon-flaws, while at the same time you let them grow in a way canon did not. The same with Harry, even Draco; and Ron and Hermione were both entirely believable, occasionally annoying, but still themselves, integral characters.

You also - and this is the really mind-boggling bit, to me - made me accept your Lily/James without a twinge. You showed James as the ass I believe he was, and yet human, in a very poignant way. That's one of my most loathed pairings, but here it was so well-done - as well-done as it *wasn't* in canon.

I probably sound like I'm slamming canon, but really what I'm trying to say is that you took problematic or disappointing aspects of a series that has meant a lot to me, and made them beautifully nuanced. You gave them a realism that fell apart in the series. I always rec people to this fic when they're foraying into HP fandom - and if they don't take my advice, it is entirely their loss. Thank you, for a wonderful, incredible story.
