Reviews for The Legend of Percy: Book 2 - Through Grief
Callum Runchman chapter 27 . 6/12/2023
I actually feel so frustrated yet sorry for azula. It's annoying to see her be so, for lack of a better word, thick-headed, but at the same time I know Fire Lord Ozai basically brainwashed her throughout her entire childhood to be loyal only to him. Such mental conditioning would be formidable and nigh impossible to break.
Jeep up the good work

I really do enjoy what you did with Azula in the story. I usually drop an xover ATLA story due to how Azula is written. but you wrote her just perfect, in my opinion. going from this cold and ruthless princess to slowly becoming mentally unstable and realizing how wrong she's been through it all. I especially like the voices in her head, which I'm guessing are both her mother and father.

Multiverse of Fiction chapter 26 . 6/6/2023
I have to admit, when I first began reading this story. I was a bit unsure about it. but once I looked past the whole, "Percy becomes a therapist," it became a good read. especially with the second book it fleshed out the characters more, and even though there are some parts I don't agree with entirely. the writing and story as a whole is just so well done. I hope you come back to finish the story as I can tell by your writing you really do care doe it. until then, take care of yourself, and I really do hope everything is going well.

Just a reminder to everyone coming here to complain about the late update times; this is a free story we are getting, obviously, for free. Needlessly criticizing and being demanding about updates or using emotional phrases to attempt to guilt trip an author will do little more than demotivate them.

Stop wasting both your time, the authors, and filling up the review tab with whining about how long it's taking. It's fanfiction, expect most works to be left incomplete.

I know what im doing is just as much of a nuisance, but still, my points stand.

is it over then?

Can Percy do the whole become a water titan thing like Aang did? It would be much similar to Poseidon in God of War 3 where he dove into the ocean and became a monster riding several Hippocampi with his Trident.

I was sobbing at this chapter, I hadn't ever thought we'd see her again after she died and it made me so happy but also sad asf for her to have one last conversation with Percy

Curses, the bad to-go cup called in an air strike! Get out of there, washing machine, before your last articles of earth clothing(and possibly body) are damaged beyond repair!

A lot of quick, interesting character points this chapter. Starting with our favorite one-man-hurricane, while I whole heartedly adore his comparison to Thalia, the immediacy with which Percy accepts the prospect of his own demise is major to me. Percy’s character has never shied from putting his life on the line for a worthy cause, and I’d say it isn’t until Blood of Olympus that he shows any notable hangups regarding his own mortality, where he’s hit by a heavy dose of survivor’s and executioner’s guilt. There, Percy’s brush with death is treated as a trauma response. Here though, his disregard for his own life reads more ambiguously. His protecting his friends in acting as a distraction, and likewise his personal vendetta against Ozai now that he’s physically harmed Azula feels strongly in character. But for all of his willingness to risk his life for a friend, the Percy Jackson I grew up with would fight just as hard to make it back to his loved ones at home. That’s the difference. There’s no Sally, Annabeth or Grover to come home to, no life outside this war with the Fire Nation and the people he’s met as a result. People Percy absolutely seems willing to die for… but whom he hasn’t yet realized he could live for as well. Assuming I’m not reading too much into this, I have to wonder how those whose lives he’s touched will feel if/when they realize how willing Percy was to throw his away.

That… went on longer than intended. That isn’t even the last I have to say regarding my observations of Percy’s mental state, believe it or not. But in the interest of touching on some of the other aspects of this chapter I enjoyed, let’s save those ramblings for another time. Last thing I wanted to touch on relevant to Percy is that I liked how the notion of him blood bending was set up with Katara earlier. I’d assumed their conversation would be Percy’s only contact with the subject: decisive condemnation of the technique, whilst sympathizing with the monstrous feeling the mere knowledge of such power leaves behind. I never expected Percy to actually consider doing it, but here we are, and I thought the scene came out marvelously. I love how twisted his thoughts get when he zeroes in on the open wound. It evoked his torturing of Achlys, even before the comparison was overtly made. Good stuff, all around! Ozai getting a taste of fear from the other end for once is just the icing on the cake.

Or is it more than that? After all, Ozai didn’t just get his ass kicked, the almighty Firelord accepted the challenge of a lowly savage, and THEN got his ass kicked in front of a sizable chunk of his fighting force and the Royal Princess. I’d have to imagine the ramifications are going to be major, both for Ozai personally and all unfortunate enough to exist around him. From the admittedly little I understand about Fire Nation politics, losing the fight would be more than enough on its own, but sustaining an injury that will presumably scar will, poetically, serve as a reminder of his failure, of his inadequacy, of his damaged reputation- or, if you will, his tarnished honor. Doubtless Ozai has enough sway to establish his own spin on the encounter as the official version, but even if he convinces every last one of his subjects that he was in control the entire time, I don't think even Ozai is delusional enough to fully deny the truth of the matter to himself, and Azula will certainly know better, even if she’s unsure of what to do with the information. Seeing how a tyrant reacts when faced with the indisputable fact that he’s not the scariest fish in the sea anymore ought to be most interesting. For Azula’s sake, I hope Percy’s imagining that Ozai deliberately moved to block her from view was just that. The to-go cup learning that there’s more to the relationship between his daughter and his new nemesis then that of predator and prey will only spell bad things for all involved.

Well, except for the readers. We’ll latch on to conflict like perverted leeches to a skinny-dippin’ super model.

Lastly, thanks for the super in depth response to my reviews! I knew you were good about responding to readers thanks to the 54 chapters I read up to that point, but it was still super surreal reading my username in the following update. That you care enough to not only respond, but do so so thoroughly really validates how much mental energy(and trust me, it’s a lot) I put into contemplating the intricacies of your work. So yeah, thanks again and looking forward to the next chapter!

I like what u wrote here already! One thing though. Why did you kill off zuko, he is one of the most dynamic characters in atla? I understand if it was just to give azula a chance at redemption, but it was a bit harsh. Either way, great writing! Please update soon!
