I'm not quite sure how to feel about this. First, the way Harry quickly decided to pursue a romance with Hermione felt a little rushed to me. He knew Ron had feelings for her, so it seemed a bit unbelievable. The same goes for Hermione, who has always been close to Ginny and knew about her feelings as well. For both Harry and Hermione to just dive into a relationship felt strange, and it didn't come across as something good friends would do. And this isn't about Ron leaving or Harry breaking up with Ginny. This decision isn't about the Weasleys—it reflects on their character and core values.

While I understand Ron left, the way it's portrayed in your story feels exaggerated. Of course, they were hurt, but I can't imagine Harry truly believing he had completely lost his friend—especially since, in canon, he accepts him back so quickly. While his reaction is understandable to an extent, it also gives the impression that Ron wasn’t that important to them in the first place, like they just wanted to get rid of him.

The fact that Harry and Hermione don't accept Ron in this chapter and then immediately jump into a romantic scene feels a bit unnatural. It’s as if the argument with Ron never happened, which makes it seem off. Although many comments say this isn't Ron bashing, it does come across that way a little. I personally dislike stories where the trio is separated, and unfortunately, that’s what’s happening here. While I initially overlooked how fast the romance developed because your writing is good, this part feels like too much. It seems like Ron is being lightly bashed, and I struggle with stories that break the trio apart.

Of course, in the end, it's fanfiction, and you’re free to take the story in any direction you like, so I wish you the best of luck. I just think I'll have to stop here.

I’m glad there was no Ron bashing, even if I agree that Harry should think twice about his friendship with him. I did like the fact that Ron is willing to make up for it, running to their aid when called, and ultimately it’s a smart idea to have someone know about the secret mission (though why didn’t death eaters think to interrogate his best friend first?) in case something happens to Harry and Hermione.

Anyhow, good take on the horcrux hunt, and hope to see more from the sequel soon.

This is also the reason why we get such varied and most often better written and thought out fanfics. Even fics I wouldn't read with a 10000ft pole are still better thought out.

To clarify, I haven’t read this yet. Just adding to the point the review below me is making. Another reason they shouldn’t touch the horcrux is because DUMBLEDORE LITERALLY IS DYING BY JUST TOUCHING ONE.

I never understood why they HAD to wear the horcrux. I mean, Ginny got possessed just by writing in a diary. You’d think they’d be cautious of keeping a Horcrux on them at all times. If it was a matter of security, keep it in Harry’s moleskin pouch, only Harry can retrieve things from that, best type of security there is.

Excellent as this chapter is, one thing confuses me. Why is Harry worried about Malfoy and his goons resurfacing when he left all three bound in the tunnel next to the chamber? How would they get out without someone to 'speak' to the tap? Harry wasn't foolish enough to leave the passageway open did he?

Usually I'd wait until the end to leave a comment, but this chapter is just too amusing to keep it quiet.

So, its always been a peeve of mine when reading fanfic, that authors are too close to the original characters. It truly annoys me when the characters never fight back. Instead seeming to be terrified that they might have to do harm to murderers. Dumb as a door hated the idea of killing, but I hate that every time they have a chance to hurt a DE, they do not take it. Which makes them guilty of allowing every further harm those monsters do.

Anyway, great story, thanks for sharing. I'm just venting a bit.

I love the bleak midwinter.. it was a song about the dead in WWI to honor them and how it was after the war. Truly beautiful.
