I feel like having the Southern Water Tribe become similar to the Polynesian or Philippine cultures would be best, shipbuilding and sailing while living off of what the island(s) provide. Not to mention the war bands and tribal rituals sound pretty similar.
Also, buddy for Appa later! I know in LoK there is the assumption that wild Bison herds survived Sozin, but still a nice plot point.

The flying bison is cool though quite unfortunate that the bison is a male instead of a female. Appa is a male bison as well and it would have been quite lucky if the protagonist had found a female that in time could mate with appa to continue their race.

I like the idea of the water tribe seeking better grounds to live in though im skeptical of the venture since they will be much easier to attack. The southern water tribe wouldn't be able to fight off a full invasion by the fire nation. That being said the southern water tribe needs a chance to do more than just survive but a chance to thrive so perhaps this gamble will work out.

Im not a huge fan of how negative you have made Hakoda in this fic but it doesn't bother me that much.

Seems good. I'm super conflicted on if I want Koda to learn airbending or not. On the one hand, I find airbending very cool. On the other, making Koda too powerful could mess with future dynamics. Maybe he could be able to learn airbending to level 10 or so? Enough that it's possible, and he has to work hard for it.

spirit bending? that's new. wasn't the only other character who could do that the girl who turned into the moon? or was that something else? I was kinda hoping for a blood bending healing skill

there bound to be a few peaple there, deserters some fishermen fro kyushi etc , the fact that so many of the wtaer tribesmen are violent idiots makes sense, in reality most peaple werejust look at Lamellar armour worn by native Siberians
