Shiloh: you're really cool. definitely do not deserve all the BS sent your way. I really like the 'cursed child' angle and I definitely think that's going to affect his psyche as the story progresses. His mother seems like a wholly unpleasant person and I really do feel bad for Shiloh. He's been forced into this situation and told to believe that he's the cause of someone else's ailments. That's how he's lived his WHOLE LIFE which is mind boggling to me. I can only imagine the impact that would have on someone because god damn. I'll be rooting for you shiloh u a real one.

Corvina: I feel bad for her too - but less so because she dealt with it by being kind of a dick to Maverick and Erin (according to them, anyways - but she confirms it in her own inner thoughts so!). That isn't the way to deal w/ your issues young woman. That being said, it's obviously a response she built up after having the people she loved taken away through no real fault of her own. She's scared to form those bonds and lose other people - which I think bodes HORRIBLY for her in the Games. This reads to me like someone who might end up isolated and alone and die at bloodbath (and if she survives she'll still be a solo outlier tribute, making her an easy target.) But maybe she's able to overcome this aversion to relationships when it comes to life or death! Seems like they have 6 months before the Games ,after all.

Perry: Oh Perry you poor girl. Annie's death has definitely affected her and she seems to have forsaken (haha) herself entirely, isolating herself from the world. Very common theme in this chapter, I imagine that it was meant to be that way! Love it! She seems to be much more defeated than the others in this chapter, though. Shiloh ends up hopeful. Corvina is angry and lashes out, but she still has fire in her. Perry is just... done, almost. She thinks there might be a reason she's alive, but can't begin to possibly grasp at it. Her ending feels a lot more mute than the other two, seeming much more resigned (though I do love her wanting to find good in the world and wish her the best in that). She's someone I find myself deeply rooting for, but my hopes are not very high. You've got this Perry pleaaaase survive.

Shiloh: Shades of Millicent from this little guy; notably less murder, though. I like the stylistic choice you made here, beginning with the death of his mother instead of building up to it; it had true value in accentuating the narrative. It is definitely attention-grabbing to begin with such an event, I think, plus your use of imagery really helped give a sense of the scene. From an analytical perspective, it is very intuitive to introduce the mother as awful and putrid in death. Not only does the description make a strong impression on the reader, but it is a description which ends up transcending mortality, illustrated by her awful treatment of Shiloh. Really clever, Linds, great writing! On Shiloh, I like the guy. Whether he realises or not, his shackles are now unchained; cue the Games! Feels bad. Not too worried for him, though; Shiloh never seemed like one to be resigned to fate. No doubt his mother will be on his mind. I wonder, could she speak to him in dreams and what have you else? I hope not, but I also hope so. I would love to see him to overcome those demons.

Corvina: I found more of a liking for Shiloh than Cora. I appreciate the family dynamics here; I found them to be really quite realistic. I also like how you decided to illustrate the events which led Cora to become self-preserving. I hope Cora stays true to herself on this, it seems very central to her character. Unlike some others, Andi and Dove being good examples, I see little threat in Cora. I see fight, sure, but I have no idea how she would fare on her own. Given this seems to be her plan of attack, I hope she trains hard. With that said, though, six months is a long time not to be making allies.

Perry: Perry is such a gorgeous character, I feel so horrible for her past. She must be fast and quick-thinking, given she escaped the fire, but what else has she got in her locker? Once again, you touch on isolation in her perspective; how will that translate into the arena, if at all? Excited to see. Loved this, though, such a great window into Eleven. I like that you saved the gardens and orchids for the end; like a reward!

As you said, a sad chapter.
Shiloh: he had one of the most vivid introductions so far for some reason. I could really picture all the events described in his chapter, some of them bringing to my mind something akin to horror story environments. He is ranked very low, which I wonder if it is because he leaves dour impression or because he is cursed to be unlucky.

Corvina: She has a very sick name. Out of the three I feel she was the least tragic, but her life has been still been marked with loss. I feel like she has many same lonely themes as Perry, and it really shadows her character.

Perry: initially I thought she might be have the sweetest start to any introduction so far, but turn out it was just the world setting up to hurt her for character development. I think one could argue any of the the to have been the saddest, for me it was Perry, as it sees her lost love keeps haunting her and pushed her to isolation. I really like the random details relating to the pesticides.
